Personally, as an (ahem) middle-aged guy - only about 3 years older than Tweedy, I believe, and younger than Nels - I am pleased as punch to see that they are not limiting themselves to inviting acts that are all much younger than them. I almost bought Taj Mahal tickets a year or two back, but the good seats were $75, and I don't really know his catalogue and just had too many other financial obligations. I figured I might not ever get a chance to see him. Charles Lloyd is a jazz legend (they made a point of listing people he's played with and/or influenced: Hendrix, Miles Davis, etc) - so i

Yep, I think Wilco is trying to give him a late-career boost as a sort of co-headliner...what with the J.T. production and all. I am impressed by how much enthusiasm there is for all the acts that are, to me, quite obscure (I did check out Real Estate's disc after a bunch of people here mentioned them, but I was not blown away). I mean, Parquet Courts, DeMarco, Walker, Tyler...I know nothing of any of these people. So thumbs up to all you folks who are interested in them.

I guess I must be part of the middle-aged white guy contingent, because I am pretty damn psyched for Charles Lloyd, Taj Mahal and King Sunny (all black dudes, I believe )...not that I'm trying to make it a racial thing. Lol. Also psyched for Autumn Defense and NRBQ. For me, the other acts were just icing on the cake, but I am surprised they landed that many big names. And I have never seen any of them, or even a Tweedy solo show. So I am looking forward to it more than I was yesterday before the announcement.

Charles Lloyd? Holy cow.

Eric the Half Bee is my favorite.

Expandable Brass Band Felice Bros. Amazing how many people know these bands. Maybe Googling the clues?

As bad as that is, check this one out. I really found it hard to believe that it's not from The Onion: House Passes Bill that Prohibits Expert Scientific Advice to the EPA http://inhabitat.com/house-passes-bill-that-prohibits-expert-scientific-advice-to-the-epa/

This is so awesome, the only appropriate response is Or -
So far, the results are Tweedy 61% vs. Corgan 31%. But really, they are like apples and oranges...kind of a silly idea to pit them against each other.

I was just coming here to post that. If they're in MN on June 26-27, it seems unlikely that they would be in MA on June 28.

Oh snap. I saw that posting on Facebook. I've been doing it, too, but still.

I guess I do.

I'm thinking he would be more likely to use that baseball bat on a union member than on a terrorist. I guess if he ends up being the nominee, I will feel it's my civic duty to campaign for his opponent. Sigh.

I don't really care enough about any of it to get wound up, but I am somewhat annoyed that they are using the name that has been retired since '95. They called themselves "The Dead" on previous tours. Why not just go with that again? Why the change of heart, other than for promotional or financial motives? Kinda disappointing.

Just read this, too. Bummer for sure. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.

I will have to give that whole sequence another listen. I must admit, I didn't get all that out of it. Then again, driving and listening is not always the ideal environment... Right now, I'm looking forward to the Playin’ > Drums > Dark Star > Morning Dew > Playin’ coming up in this 10/18/72 show. Should be pretty righteous.

Sadly, Ticketmaster lists the Soldier Field shows under the supposedly retired moniker "The Grateful Dead." Oh well. Just finished my first listen to 8/24/72, one of those under-the-radar shows from that legendary year. Not extraordinary, but a good show with many highlights. Next up: 10/28/72 at the Fox Theatre, another one I have yet to hear. So many shows, so little time...

Any truth to the rumor I heard that FSU students will be able to get into the Tally Wilco show for free? A friend's friend on Facebook posted about it. Sounds too good to be true... Edit: Never mind, answered my own question. http://up.union.fsu.edu/shows/sun-april-26-wilco/

Yesterday, Rene Marie in Tampa. Great jazz singer, really a very nice little show.

So that brings the Florida shows total to four: 4/26, 4/28, 4/29 & 5/1. I suppose they will take 4/27 and 5/30 off rather than trying to add a fifth.

I always wonder how much of that "more laws, more regulations, more taxes" argument involves things we all take for granted as necessary. For example, I think it's a good thing that we have an FDA to make sure we are not being fed carcinogens by major corporations (although we actually are, thanks to the loose legal definitions of what "food" is); I think it's a good thing that we have airline safety laws, auto safety laws; I think the EPA, created by Republican President Richard Nixon, is a good thing...especially if it helps us have clean air and water; and I think the Civil RIghts Act - w

That came up on my Facebook feed too. The one that always gets me is the whole "big government" lie. I understand if a constituent sincerely believes that less government is better than more (although that is a somewhat simplistic way to look at it), but when an actual politician starts that crap, I want to punch them in the neck. Oh, really, you think less government is the answer? Then why are YOU running for public office!? Planning to fire a bunch of staffers once you get in? How about firing yourself? A-holes.

Wow, if I still lived in my home state, I would be on that like white on rice: Wilco, Zappa Plays Zappa, Dark Star Orchestra, New Riders, Gregg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks? Amazing.

I did see him twice on the AmericanaramA tour (once on the rail, which was cool), and I also saw him about 4 years ago, and then back in '02. The show 4 years ago cost me about $40, I believe. Has the dollar declined that much in value, or has Dylan's stock risen that much? I can't imagine spending more than double what I paid just 4 short years ago.
