Oddly enough, I don't even have much of his material, even though I am something of a jazz fanatic. I first got turned on to him via Abbey Lincoln's The World Is Falling Down album, and I am sure I have him as a sideman on a bunch of stuff...but I believe the only record I have of him as a leader is the amusingly titled Serenade To A Bus Seat. I'll have to dig into my iTunes and see what else I have him on....

Indeed.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/jazz-great-clark-terry-dead-at-94-20150222 Another of the great jazz players. He was 94, though, which is a pretty good run by any measurement!

You're probably right. I just....I don't know, I've seen him a few times, and saw him two more times on the AmericanaramA tour. I was in the front row/on the rail for one of those shows, and of course that included Bob Weir, MMJ, and Wilco...all for about $100. I guess my days of seeing Zimmy are probably over, unless someone gives me a ticket...

So I just found out that Dylan is going to be playing at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, one of the best-sounding theatres, acoustically speaking, on the eastern seaboard. I normally get email updates about all their shows before they go on sale, but for some reason, it's already on sale. In fact, it's nearly sold out. There was a single seat in the 12th row, and I was sorely tempted to buy it. But then I realized I can't justify spending $100 to hear ol' Bob croon a bunch of tunes from the great American songbook, with a few of his classics sprinkled in among them. Still kind of hurt not to

Looks Like Rain, great tune.

I wouldn't even put it in the top ten most annoying songs. Ever heard Bad Bitch? Then again, people on this thread are slagging on The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac and Harry Chapin...which to me is inexplicable. There is a plethora of terrible stuff out there, but that ain't part of it. A few other contenders: It Ain't No Fun 1-800 Suicide Dead Wrong Don't Phunk With My Heart Seriously, we could do this all day and never even get into the classic rock category...

Haven't you ever heard the expression "whiter than a Wilco concert?"
-
Linda Perry, who wrote that song, will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the organization’s 46th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner in June...along with Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. So there.

So, okay, they can announce the lineup any time now. No, seriously. I mean, you know, bands and the like.

The First Great Song You Heard in Concert
Mr. Heartbreak replied to roadhse ma's topic in Someone Else's Song
This is sort of like my experience, except I didn't get to see Seger. KISS opened with I Stole Your Love (not a great song), so I'm going to go with Shock Me, and Ace's smoking guitar solo. Mind blown. Hey, I was 13. -
You said you were an actress Yes, I believe you are I thought you'd be a star So I drank up all the money, yes I drank up all the money With these phonies in this Hollywood bar These friends of mine in this Hollywood bar Loneliness and frustration We both came down with an acute case When the lights came up at two I caught a glimpse of you And your face looked like something Death brought with him in his suitcase Your pretty face it looked so wasted Another pretty face devastated The French inhaler he stamped and mailed her So long, Norman she said, so long, Norman

Been delving into some '72 stuff, in anticipation of the next DaP from Academy of Music. Checking this deadessays.blogspot.com site led me to this quote from Jerry about rap: Love that guy.

Weird how this conflicts with the Tweedy Forecastle one in Kentucky. Same dates, July 17-19. I guess they headline a show on one of those three dates, and Jeff plays the Forecastle fest on another of the three dates. Unless there is some sort of time travel thing going on. Beam me up, Scotty!

Seconded. Since my favorites are mostly ancient stuff like that, here's something a little more current. Can't vouch for the accuracy, as I am pulling this off the internet: Shit shots count If the table's tilted, just pay the man who levels the floor Pride is what you charge a proud man for having Shame is what you sell to a whore.

Check the AMC website. It looks like they are at least streaming the first two episodes for about 30 days. Not sure if that will be true for all of them...

This made me laugh out loud. Thanks, I needed that.

So if everybody gets their wishes, we will have Television, The Replacements, Beck, Joe Jackson, Sufjan Stevens, New Pornographers, Richard Thompson, St. Vincent, Andrew Bird, Lucius, Califone, Calexico, Yo La Tengo, Donna the Buffalo, Real Estate, Cibo Matto, Jim Campilongo Trio, William Tyler, Joe Pug, Ryley Walker, Gregory Alan Isakov, Blitzen Trapper, Sharon Van Etten, and the Punch Brothers. Did I leave anyone out? Can we get David Byrne and St. Vincent? Maybe just pick one? Take a deep breath, everybody. Lower your expectations.... Edit: Oh, crap, I forgot My Morning Jacket. How
