I am getting more out of the Tweedy Sukierae material, thanks to a live show. I have the CDs, but it's good to hear the songs in a scrambled order, too. Also, Cracker's new album has some great songs. And the Drive-By Truckers EP Dragon Pants has some really amusing material on it. But yeah, the Dead (and Floyd, and a few others) really ruined us for new music to some degree. I've been digging into a bunch of Legion of Mary shows from '74-'75, loving the obscurities most.

Boring, unfocused, noodly...I have read a lot of these criticisms of Ratdog shows over the years and always been a bit surprised. All the shows I have seen of theirs (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008) have been really quite good. I'm lucky to have caught them on nights when they were "on," I guess. Weir solo on the AmericanaramA tour was excellent. I was right on the rail in Florida, and he surprised me with his vocal energy. But yes, apparently he was in dire need of a break after all those nights on the road.

Interesting. That's the 2nd time in the past month I have seen Rubber Soul listed as the #1 Beatles album. Personally, I would put all of those others (B-F) above it, but that's just me.

I got this, and have started working my way through it. The first track is kind of a weird way to open, but after that, the rest of disc 1 sounds like classic Cracker to me. I really like El Cerrito, it's instantly catchy. Why can't more bands make music like this, with a real hook?

Agree with the other posters, a full length Wilco show is much preferred. I live in Tampa, but I'm actually doing the trifecta like suites: hauling up to Tally on a Sunday, making a quick run over to Orlando on a Tuesday night, then taking the day off on Friday to go north again for St. Aug. Sounds crazy, but I did something similar way back in 2002 and it was totally worth it. They best not add a Tampa date this late in the game, though. My wife would kill me if I went.

I was psyched to see this on dead.net, as I have the subscription and am already looking forward to the upcoming '74 DaP. I love '72, and only have a few shows from the spring. My wife and I are staying at one of those little places up in Bennington, too. I think it will be fine. Personally, I like the idea of a 30-40 minute drive to decompress a bit after having my ears blasted out by a rock show, but that's just me. As for the "ambience" of the place, we aren't that picky. It's really just a place to crash when not at the festival.

A subject near and dear to my heart. I am old enough to remember when CDs first came around, and they were touted as being THE future. No one yet had a thought about song files on hard drives. I bought quite a few over the years and have unloaded quite a few as well. I still have plenty of CDs I could live without, and will no doubt get rid of them at some point. BUT I also have CDs I will never get rid of, particularly my large classic jazz collection. If my external hard drive and my computer both crapped out (like in a fire or a major electrical storm), I would have to replace all that

Just to be passive-aggressive? Seriously, I have no idea. It does, though, as suites posted earlier, put Rich in kind of a weird light. Like, "Hey, everybody, see what a douchebag my brother is?" doesn't really make anyone look like a hero. And don't get me wrong, I am in no way defending CR. He may be a tool, I have no idea. If anything - again, without knowing a lot of backstory or hearing anything from the other side - it seems like kind of a weenie move for Chris to put specifics of a financial negotiation out there as part of an official statement. Maybe CR and/or his attorneys made that offer knowing it would be turned down, thus ensuring a breakup without actually quitting himself? There are all sorts of possibilities. I didn't catch that. I clicked on the link and saw that the thing was 40 minutes long, so I didn't listen to it. Seems weird, though. If the idea is that Chris is a diva type, that sounds a little exaggerated, too. He's playing small clubs, essentially by choice, because he digs what he's doing musically. I understand not everyone likes it, but that seems pretty cool to me. Then again, I'm not a huge Black Crowes fanatic, so there might be all sorts of detailed drama here that I know nothing about. I am curious about this. When was that show? Is there a version of it on the archive? I have mixed feelings about the Trey choice, but it's not contempt prior to investigation. Certainly it will likely bring in some fans who would not otherwise have been willing to go. On the other hand, I have not heard Trey doing any Dead tunes: haven't listened to any Phish in a good 10 years, with the exception of them covering Terrapin in August 2005.
