Man, my post about records stores disappearing was grossly misinformed. Oil Can - you a Lampooner?

This is why I am not even considering buying any of these. I'm no audiophile, so even if I did notice a better sound at all, I still wouldn't be able to shake the feeling that I'd been had.

I forgot about Cheapo Records! They're closest to you, and they're great for inexpensive used vinyl.

Looney Tunes had two locations - the one on Mass Ave in Cambridge (between Harvard and Central Squares) recently closed shop. The one in Boston is still open. And that's about it these days for used records in Boston. Kinda crazy. Used to be you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a used record shop in Boston. Newbury Comics is definitely the place to go for new vinyl. There's also a great shop called Twisted Village in Harvard Square where you'll find weird stuff you didn't know you wanted. Check out their catalog, it's pretty impressive.

It doesn't help that I don't know what the hell they're talking about in that scene.

Almost 15,000 posts and you finally show your true self: an Amazon.com street teamer. Sir, I bow to your patience.

Probably the Wilco album I'd grab if my house was on fire.

You were at Live Aid? Damn, that's cool.

Watched The Safety of Objects over the weekend - another one of those Magnolia-wannabes (one of my favorite movie review moments is in a review of Crash, something like "this movie wants so bad to be Magnolia. But I can't blame it; if I was a movie, I'd want to be Magnolia too"). Most of it was engaging, thanks to the dramatic edits and lack of over emoting. But once the finale started shifting into high gear, I groaned. Some movies should just end without an ending. Too much closure, too much "ahh, we're all connected and everything's going to be okay" bullshit. Nice performances from Glenn

Jake Lloyd isn't ten anymore, and he's funny.

I want to echo the sentiment that the IATTBYH movie made me feel more sympathetic toward Jay than Jeff. What Speed Racer said is spot on for me too - in that Ashes/HMD scene, he was trying to figure out exactly what was going to be on the record, exactly where one song was was stopping and the next was starting. He seemed to care about it much more than Jeff did (in that moment), and I've never been able to relate to the idea that the scene shows how Jay had worn out his welcome. If anything I've always been disappointed in Jeff's actions in that scene (with a grain of salt, of course). The re

1. First Concert, when? Luciano Pavarotti - Esplanade Hatch Shell, Boston 1982: my whole family went, free show set up around filming for the ill-conceived Pavarotti vehicle Yes, Giorgio! Pavarotti was a rock star to my nine-year old sensibilities. 2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did? The Cure - 1986 Wanted to see Van Halen (ne Hagar) earlier that year, but the parents put the kibbosh on that. The Cure were less subversive in their eyes, apparently. 3. Favorite Band? The Beatles 4. How Many Times have you seen them? 0 +/- 5. Worst concert you attended? I've pret

Don't forget Nipples of Venus.

When Letterman was hosting Late Night. Keep up. Yeah, I remember They Might Be Giants doing 'Birdhouse In Your Soul' w/The Tonight Show band around then (Leno guest hosting but Doc Severinson in all his cheesy glory). So there's exceptions to be sure, but in general, you know what I mean.

Yeah, but that only happened because Winona Ryder was shagging Ken Coomer at the time.

Funny you should post about this now - earlier tonight my friend told me his story of seeing The Colbert Report live this week. My friend was hit by a car while bicycling recently, and is on crutches. So he got front row seats. Near the end of taping, just before they were coming back to do the final sign-off, Colbert apparently turned and mouthed "What happened!?" to my friend. My friend gestured driving, biking and smash with his hands. Colbert mouthed "That's terrible!" then 3-2-1 and on-air.
