  1. I'm sorry folks, I don't know where I've left my brain lately! I might never have noticed that thread duplication if Sir Stewart weren't so...BOLD! Thanks Sir Stewart.
  2. Hey Wendy! Ok, we have turkey and pie. We're gonna need some mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberries (I know, but ya gotta have 'em).
  3. Ken! You're a poet!! Yowza! Those are good!
  4. As you see, my avatar represents Thanksgiving, as Jeff cradles a huge, perfectly roasted turkey ("OW!OW!! HOT!!!"). As some of you might notice, there are also elements of Halloween remaining, in Jeff's bloody fangs and bloodred eyes, and in the blotches of blood on the turkey ("Does this look done to you?") Maybe the Halloween elements should go. ? But then I have managed to neatly bridge Fall, with these two major holidays represented , so perhaps I'll leave well enough alone. PS to Sir Stew and Wendy...see, I do catch on eventually! Topics merged! (Wendy, feel free to merge me if I d
  5. Probably easier for them to select winners if the haikus are sent individually. And no, I'm not going to let you play my new SG. Sorry, Ken.
  6. These are terrific! I used to love our Via Chicago Wilco haiku threads back in about 2002 to 2004! But then some folks got all "purist" about what really constituted a proper haiku, so I stopped posting them because it stopped being fun. But now we can all unleash our inner "poets". Here's a couple I submitted: Blood spattered hair Hitchcockian mad horror The trunk must be cleaned! and: Who loves ya baby? This is a job for Wilco Depend upon it.
  7. Yikes, I forget how big Australia is! How many time zones are there across the continent, Beck?
  8. I'm sensing a theme here. It's like, if we could just put these puzzle pieces together in the right way, we'd have the murderer!!! Or else I've been watching too many police dramas on tv.
  9. Turns out it's the Freemasons! What a cool plot twist!
  10. Which brings up an interesting question: Is it still true that "there's no blood on my hands" even if there's blood in his hair, and on the sofa, and in the sink and even the trunk? How much of a neatnik is he, to have managed not to get any on his hands?! Or did he just wash up after? I'm confused.
  11. Hahaha, my dad used to say that rhyme to me as a little girl, and I told it to all of my children. For anyone who missed it as a child: Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair If Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair, Then Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't fuzzy, was he? Now somebody put a sweater on that poor bear!
  12. First off, Wow. Too much that's dismaying there to even shake a stick at. Even a very large branchy stick. I have to admit, "Waterboard congress!" cracked me up. Uh, Sambo? Good lord. I'm re-reading "Heart of Darkness" right now...we really haven't come quite as far as we'd like to think, have we? Still so much racism. And this: 'John Ratzenberger, a.k.a Cliff Clavin from "Cheers,"' The new GOP spokesperson?
  13. That link is pretty funny, Christy!
  14. I love Jane Austen. I have to read in a ways before I get into her mindset, since it was a very different time, but once there I love her sly humor and understanding of what makes humans tick. That hasn't really changed over the centuries, and she is so insightful and cuttingly funny in her appraisals of her characters' motives. When I finish an Austen book, I crave another Austen book. Her writing has such an elegance, too.
  15. Ok, now do that in reverse, and let's see if we get the original.
  16. Oh, it didn't bother me any. Made me laugh.
  17. It's something in the water here at VC. (Motto: "Lust R Us")
  18. Men! You guys are so cute. If hopelessly lust-ridden.
  19. Yeah, Elliott Brood were fantastic too, and as if musical brilliance weren't enough, they also passed out big wooden spoons and cheap tin pans to the audience members and let us all attempt to play along! I'll say this for the audience, we were certainly LOUD. Not particularly in time, mind you, but what we lacked in rhythmic ability we made up for in enthusiasm.
  20. Well, I didn't see the movie so I suppose it might depend on how she was portrayed there. She wasn't too sympathetic of a character in the book. Very self-absorbed. But that's not you I don't think, from how you come across on this board at least!
  21. I just finished Revolutionary Road, which someone recommended. Not the worst book of all time, but I just found it dry and depressing. I guess I kept reading because I thought something interesting might happen. Even the "big finish" just did nothing for me. And someone thought this would make a good movie? Yikes, I'll bet the movie is even worse than the book!
  22. Here's a terrific little article on Wilco from the Italian magazine Mucchio. I've run it through the Google translator for your convenience. Good luck. Although their debut is out "Only" fourteen years ago, Wilco are unquestionably a classic American rock: band which has now entered, and head-in History, moreover, hitting the elusive goal of reconciling audiences more traditional and elderly and the young generations indie, not forgetting the large formation "middle" of the fans grown up with, among many, R.E.M. and Dream Syndicate. Not trifles, and recently it is even less if you
