  1. I second this notion. Also, I'm surprised at the lukewarm response to Country Disappeared! I'm pretty smitten with it, myself. Tweedy does some of his prettiest singing ever on this album. John & Pat too.
  2. I agreed with a lot of what you said, nodep, but you lost me with this sentence: "Wilco is a rock band who is admittedly not in their peak but still very worth it." I think they are very much at their peak.
  3. The tension in Bull Black Nova just builds and builds until you know that thing is gonna blow up, and you can hardly stand waiting for the explosion!
  4. Every good vibe is winging its way straight to you, Jen.
  5. Who, me? I'm right here, buried up to my earballs in up-too-loud-or-is-there-such-a-thing-? "Bull Black Nova" Ok, I'm not good at the erudite dissection of a new album, note for note and influence for influence. I react to good music more like...well, this, as I emailed a friend: "I'm so damned happy right now....they really have outdone themselves! The thing is gorgeous, fresh, wistful, brazen, hopeful, happy, finger-snappingly-feet-gotta-dance wonderfulness. My head is gonna be lost in this music for a very long time." Holy damn this is terrific. I love that Jeff's voice is mixed far f
  6. Good suggestion, Wendy, and I know WilcoWorld will help folks get satisfaction on this, so let them know if you've had a problem. They aren't looking to deprive any one of the perks they were meant to get. I'm sure they'll help.
  7. Ok, somebody's gotta say it, and it jolly well oughta be the fool who begun this ridiculous thread (um, me ): this thread has only the thinnest and most existential of connections to Wilco, and as such really doesn't belong in Just A Fan. I'm moving myself over to Tongue Tied Lightning.
  8. Ok, well. kidsmoke is genuinely touched by this. Since I was musing in here about things that are jolly I have realized that there are many jolly things I have haplessly forgotten, so see this thread: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=39802 Which gives vent to more things which are jolly. Perhaps not as jolly as today's bankers, but jolly nonetheless. All I know is, I can't get this tune out of my head!
  9. Ok, well, it's startling how many jolly things there really are, when you start to think of it! I began when I named the big three, Santa Claus, bankers, and the Green Giant, all inspired by Wilco's beautiful new "Jolly Banker"....... ....but later realized I had utterly neglected: Jolly Joes (candy) Jolly Roger (pirate flag!) and a Jolly Good Fellow, which is pretty much what we all hope we are What other Jollies do you live by? Oh, and while Woody Guthrie, and for that matter Jeff Tweedy, probably won't forgive your lapse, I personally forgive you for singing, "I'm a Jolly Rancher,
  10. You didn't think I was disparaging the song, did you? Because I love the song & it's been humming in my brain all day long. I was just being silly.
  11. Come around, Oceanman, we miss you! I hope your day is unfolding just as it should, with much happiness! I give you oceancake! Have a wonderful day and year!
  12. You know, I was thinking: now there are three jolly things: Santa Claus, bankers, and the Green Giant. Hey, it's been a slow brain day.
  13. I really really like it. It has a warm familiarity to it, something that Wilco has always done so well. And Guthrie lives on! Also, (I'm sorry in advance) the Feist mention of her playing a Garden Weasel (hmmm) forces me to recount upon you all the joke about Edward Scissorhands and his poor twin brother, Edward Gardenweaselfeet. That's all, that's the entire joke. Hey, I didn't say it was a good joke!
  14. I like Gary Jules too.
  15. I don't remember them ever saying that. But of course I miss a lot. Still, I don't think so.
  16. No, a day after he got it I collected up all the stuffing from all over the living room, pushed it all back into the toy, trimmed off all the torn up "mustard" and "relish", and re-sewed the toy shut in at least 4 places. Now I've given the toy back to him. Why do you think we hurried up and took some pictures, silly? I give it two days, tops. PS - I dare ya to look at this footage while tripping!
  17. Noodle got it for his first birthday on April 16th, it has a squeaker which so far he's been unable to tear out, and while Noodle is happy to show you the toy, don't be ridiculous, of course you can't have it! Get your own damned toy!
  18. Congratulations, Kalle! I just listened to "Hall of Oats" on myspace & liked it a lot, so I'm downloading Whisper Bee. I wish you a lot of luck with this album!
  19. [Angry Rant] Make no mistake about it, I'm very happy I bought tickets today, to see the band on the 23rd of June. But I don't even have the words to express my contempt for the outrageous, over-the-top profiteering going on at Live Nation. Wilco itself is deserving of every nickel and dime I can lob in their general direction. They've earned that with glorious music and a generous, giving attitude toward their fans as well as the larger society (benefits etc.) Live Nation is another story. They deserve to make a profit as a business concern, for the service they deliver, but wringing the hapl
  20. Oops, must attempt to be clearer in my communications, despite that I'm all wonky with sleep deprivation today! What I meant there was, a question directed to Maudie, our moderator whose secret identity here on the board is "gogo". I was hopeful that perhaps Maudie would know definitively whether the Wiltern is all GA. Maudie knows an amazing number of things. As for yourself, you really should know Maudie! She's great people. Perhaps you will have the good fortune to make her acquaintance at the Wiltern.
  21. Yeah, that happened to me too, when I tried to get night 2 tickets. Frustrating, but at least the main sale is still ahead. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the Wiltern is all GA. Do you know, Maudie? (Because I'm too lazy to go look)
  22. I think it definitely helped you that you were only buying one. I did manage to get tickets for the 1st night, and went immediately to trying to buy for night #2, but it was already out....and it was still only 9:59! So the number of available presale tix had to be quite small, and the demand high. L.A. is an awfully big market. Better luck for everyone in the main sale!
  23. I'm pretty sure that was mine. Was it like, green, and white, with numbers in the corners?
  24. Haha Lou, not to dither but I suspect the proportion may be slightly higher than that....(bolding in your quote mine) Nevermind, I'm sure you intended to say, 2/3rds of Wilco?
