Jesse! Have a wonderful day, worthy of videotaping! Since you're the big cheese of Wilco DVD's A cheeseburger? No! This cheeseburger's faux! This cake had you snowed! You may eat it, you know Though the virtual taste won't go to your waist You may damage your computer if you chew on it so maybe you'd better not.* * The foregoing original composition is an example of why kidsmoke will never write lyrics.

After wrestling still longer with that elusive line in "You Never Know", after "It's a long, heavy hell".....going way out on a limb here, but could it possibly be...... "Synthesizer Patel"? (google it)
-
Ask my kids, they'll tell you...every time that song comes on, I find myself saying to whoever's there, "Why do some people not care for this song? It's gorgeous! It's so elegant!"
-
Hmm, sounds somewhat like "town"and somewhat like "tale", I agree .... Clearly, Jeff is singing about a towel.
-
It's definitely long, heavy hell, but I think we're still way off base on the next line...I don't think it's either of the lines that have been suggested. The previous line refers to hell, and I think I'm hearing the word "souls" in that next line, though I'll be damned (little pun there) if I can quite think it through. I love this code-breaking stage of hearing a new album! I know this isn't it, because it doesn't quite sync, but now I'm hearing something like, Sit (or suit?) the souls of our town. But then other times it doesn't sound like "souls", so, I dunno. Yep, totally nonsens

Alternate answer #1 to this thread title: Say, you don't listen to a lot of music, do you? The Edge is in another band. Also he's igniting a storm of controversy by trying to build several homes along a bit of pristine coastline in Malibu.

What you're gonna wanna do is g'wan over all the way to Wilco's corner, and then stop. Now, standing squarely in the corner, look directly ahead. See? Then do a full 90-degree turn to the left, and again, look straight ahead. See that one too? Those are Wilco's edges. Be careful, they're sharp.

Hang tough, Loretta! West coast vibes soaring your way!

Well crap, that song's ruined for me forever. Brianne, Maudie, Edie, TIME OUT!!!!
-
Excellent, Brianne! That does make sense, read as an ongoing sentence! As for the "aural" thing, it was listening to the colbert show version that convinced me...and Jeff does sometimes stretch out a syllable when necessary to fit the meter. Remember Nick Lowe circa "Jesus of Cool" ("Pure Pop for Now People", in the U.S.) when he referred to belonging to the Church of Aural Sects? (say it out loud)
-
Yeah, the Beatles influences pop for me, too, in the best possible sense. There's a certain musical sensibility here that has sass and swagger, but mostly confidence, as it should with such well-crafted and solid songs. That brightens the whole package. Am I making sense? I'm a bit coffee-deprived at the moment; must remedy that.

That's good to hear!

Happy belated birthday, Tamala! I tried to find you a "happening" cake, or even a "stone" cake, but wound up choosing you a rum cake that looks like a Spring bonnet. Who doesn't like rum cake, or a cake that can be worn on your head?! Have a marvelous year, with plenty of Wilco!
-
Shoot, late again but the wishes are still warm! The cake might be getting stale though so chow down now! Have a wonderful year!

You be well too, Dunja!

I couldn't say why, but Bull Black Nova reminds me somehow of Corduroy Cutoff Girl.
-
I said to my son earlier tonight as we listened, "Did he just say 'mini-mart'?" So thank you for confirming that.
-
Alissa, then a kindergartener, warbled that song when new as, "Tall buildings shake, horses escape, singing sad sad songs". I'll never be able to hear Jesus Etc without an image of sad, frightened horses bolting out of a building flitting briefly through my brain.
-
Hollinger, I think the last line in this verse: "High at the wheel Of a bull black Nova And I'm sorry as a setting sun This can't be undone Can't be outgrown" is "can't be outrun"

Housecat? She's right, you know. We should rename ourselves Via Velcro. Or maybe Via Bungee Cord.
-
Wait, did I somehow miss this? And miss such a rich excuse to send you away to Banned Camp? Hmm, well, since at Via Chicago we don't recognize a "statute of limitations" (such a silly idea! ) I guess I could always give you a retroactive time out....hmmm. These administrative decisions are so brain-taxing! I'll have to give this serious contemplation. Don't want to be overly harsh, yet it sends the wrong message to just let Mike misquote people....! (gears turn within kidsmoke's skull) Oh, I know what! To get back on topic, this whole album is, to quote a delicious turn of phrase, "an a

In Wilco the Song, I hear this verse a bit differently: "There's so many wars that just can't be won, oh-oh-ohhh Even if all the battles begun, oh-oh-ohhh This is an hour of arms open wide A sonic shoulder for you to cry on" I think it's "This is an aural arms-open-wide" Thanks everybody for your lyrical assistance!
