  1. Jen, continuing vibes coming your way. As for the obese cat, if you try it just let go slowly and be mindful of whether Fatty can bear his or her own weight.
  2. Well, in my lighthearted story-telling I have clearly given the wrong impression, so let me clarify: first, this was not a tiny child, but an 8-yr-old. Any younger and I wouldn't even have considered bringing her. Second, this is a child who, at this age anyway, always "need(ed) to pee"...hence our earlier precautionary bathroom run. My actual comment to her when she said that was more along the lines of an exasperated "Really need to? Or can you hold it?" She assured me she was ok. As for the bathroom line, in no way did either of us ask to be given front-of-line status, it was simply that, s
  3. Jen, What a glorious relief! I know you won't completely relax until the lab has reported back, but for now, this is such wonderful news, and I'll bet you are just so thrilled to have it & have the procedure over with. Instead of swinging the cat around, try this, which is harmless but you must only do it for a second. This comes courtesy of my 18-yr-old Brennan (you remember Brennan!) who learned it from his biology teacher. Hang the cat in a doorway! If you hold your cat up to the top of a door frame, in the middle, the cat will instinctively shoot out his paws and can be let go of* to
  4. I agree with all the common sense considerations that have been mentioned...you do need to stay conscious that you are your child's buffer from any oddness or rough crowd behavior, and remember to see through your child's eyes a bit. You don't want to start out with the best of intentions, thinking, "There's no way to explain this experience in words, but I want my child to see what I get so happy and uplifted and excited about!".....and then have it devolve into an experience that overwhelms and even maybe scares the child. But having said that, it's also been my experience that concertgoer
  5. Maybe so. There is beautiful simplicity here, but there is no dearth of terrific, thoughtful lyrics either. I hope you come to like it more. Personally I'm loving it, obviously.
  6. Hey Junior, You seem to be getting unnecessarily bent out of shape here...our forum policies do specifically request that members not start threads if an existing thread covers the same ground. This is simply a practical consideration which helps to keep the board readable and uncluttered. Please, if you wish to post here, abide by these rules. Of course this applies to all members. Thanks, kidsmoke
  7. This reminder seems necessary...from the Via Chicago Forum Policies: "Please also abide by the following common sense guidelines:
  8. Jesse! Have a wonderful day, worthy of videotaping! Since you're the big cheese of Wilco DVD's A cheeseburger? No! This cheeseburger's faux! This cake had you snowed! You may eat it, you know Though the virtual taste won't go to your waist You may damage your computer if you chew on it so maybe you'd better not.* * The foregoing original composition is an example of why kidsmoke will never write lyrics.
  9. After wrestling still longer with that elusive line in "You Never Know", after "It's a long, heavy hell".....going way out on a limb here, but could it possibly be...... "Synthesizer Patel"? (google it)
  10. Ask my kids, they'll tell you...every time that song comes on, I find myself saying to whoever's there, "Why do some people not care for this song? It's gorgeous! It's so elegant!"
  11. Hmm, sounds somewhat like "town"and somewhat like "tale", I agree .... Clearly, Jeff is singing about a towel.
  12. It's definitely long, heavy hell, but I think we're still way off base on the next line...I don't think it's either of the lines that have been suggested. The previous line refers to hell, and I think I'm hearing the word "souls" in that next line, though I'll be damned (little pun there) if I can quite think it through. I love this code-breaking stage of hearing a new album! I know this isn't it, because it doesn't quite sync, but now I'm hearing something like, Sit (or suit?) the souls of our town. But then other times it doesn't sound like "souls", so, I dunno. Yep, totally nonsens
  13. Alternate answer #1 to this thread title: Say, you don't listen to a lot of music, do you? The Edge is in another band. Also he's igniting a storm of controversy by trying to build several homes along a bit of pristine coastline in Malibu.
  14. What you're gonna wanna do is g'wan over all the way to Wilco's corner, and then stop. Now, standing squarely in the corner, look directly ahead. See? Then do a full 90-degree turn to the left, and again, look straight ahead. See that one too? Those are Wilco's edges. Be careful, they're sharp.
  15. Hang tough, Loretta! West coast vibes soaring your way!
  16. Well crap, that song's ruined for me forever. Brianne, Maudie, Edie, TIME OUT!!!!
  17. Excellent, Brianne! That does make sense, read as an ongoing sentence! As for the "aural" thing, it was listening to the colbert show version that convinced me...and Jeff does sometimes stretch out a syllable when necessary to fit the meter. Remember Nick Lowe circa "Jesus of Cool" ("Pure Pop for Now People", in the U.S.) when he referred to belonging to the Church of Aural Sects? (say it out loud)
  18. Yeah, the Beatles influences pop for me, too, in the best possible sense. There's a certain musical sensibility here that has sass and swagger, but mostly confidence, as it should with such well-crafted and solid songs. That brightens the whole package. Am I making sense? I'm a bit coffee-deprived at the moment; must remedy that.
  19. Happy belated birthday, Tamala! I tried to find you a "happening" cake, or even a "stone" cake, but wound up choosing you a rum cake that looks like a Spring bonnet. Who doesn't like rum cake, or a cake that can be worn on your head?! Have a marvelous year, with plenty of Wilco!
  20. Shoot, late again but the wishes are still warm! The cake might be getting stale though so chow down now! Have a wonderful year!
  21. I couldn't say why, but Bull Black Nova reminds me somehow of Corduroy Cutoff Girl.
