  1. Thanks for posting this, Dan. We can't ever forget what happened in New Orleans & the other hurricane-ravaged towns two years ago. It still breaks my heart. I still remember having a horrible feeling as Katrina approached.....I remember posting here, something like "Everybody stay safe....this thing is a monster." I just had the most incredibly bad feeling about it. Wish I had been wrong.
  2. May I just add, WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you all there!
  3. I love Danny's blog, and that photo is priceless. What a cute kiddo he was! His own boys are as cute as he was.
  4. Oops, damn! But....how did the bakery know ??? They must be industry insiders moonlighting as bakers. No wonder they didn't even have a reliable supply of "4" candles. I was under the impression that Jeff was still signing in at hotels as "Jim Morrison". I'm sooooo out of the loop.
  5. My family and I wish the most amazing of birthdays to a truly amazing guy. You deserve all the best, for all you give the world. For now, virtual cake will have to do. Sorry, they were all out of "4" candles, and dammit, I see they spelled your name wrong! I won't be using this virtual bakery again! Still, it does look delicious. Have an incredible day!
  6. Did you bring enough for the whole class?
  7. I'm really happy I know all of you, and I'm happy that my pine tree hasn't yet snapped completely off at its base, despite a weekend of winds which have convinced it to do a convincing imitation of the leaning tree of Pisa (Tweedling, I took photos for you.....now I just have to remember to get them off the computer and onto VC)..... What else? I'm happy y'all have such beautiful and clearly brilliant children & nieces and nephews....I'm happy that renic takes such gorgeous photos when she travels, so the rest of us can armchair travel......I'm happy that I get to use some ellipses here,
  8. I, too, am an enormous Elliott Smith fan. I also wonder whether Jeff is as well, or the other band members. Elliott moves me as few musicians do. llynnowens, I feel just as you do. It's all very, very sad.
  9. I totally second Kevin's Beulah recommendation, and agree that the kiddos are awesome. What beautiful babies, and I'm sure they are brilliant as well!
  10. What time can you be over? You too, Dunja.
  11. I like the way she thinks. Especially the maid service part.
  12. What a great "Happy Memories" photo! I miss the both of you.
  13. Good worries, both of them. What else boggles your fevered brains? I'm serious.....what do you worry about?
  14. Well, yeah, I worry about that, too. I wasn't so worried about it but now I'm rethinking my position. Like that blasted tree. Which is always rethinking its position.
  15. So, like, that damned pine tree that Tom grew from a seed he got in kindergarten (he's 20 now) was in a too-small pot for so many years before we got it into the ground in a permanent location that it developed severe self-esteem issues and began to grow in bizarrely twisted ways. Now that it is in a fantastic location, with water and sunlight and love, it is a 12-ft. monstrosity that cannot seem to overcome its need to grow all twistedy. It is securely staked to a lodge pole as high as the lodge pole goes, but beyond that it is totally doing its own thing, main-trunk-wise. While it is creat
  16. Waaaaaaaaaay too many birthdays in August, but all such deserving celebrants! HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY to dear Ken!!! May this be a beautiful day, and year, in your life! Now here, some cake for your eyes... ....and the very best wishes for your birthday! Hope to see you at Wilco L.A.!
  17. Damn, there are just too many birthdays right now to keep up with! Still, I didn't want to let your day pass without the much-deserved cake for one of VC's own. Have a wonderful day & year, and please enjoy the virtual cake! Happy day to you!!! Happy year!
  18. Tom, here I come straggling in late....but the birthday wishes are nonetheless warm and heartfelt, for a great guy like yourself! Please, enjoy some virtual cake, with love and best wishes! Have a wonderful day and a wonderful year!
  19. Happiest of birthdays to our beloved ms yvon. Hope to see you very, very soon. In the meantime, there's cake! I should mention that this cake goes beautifully with: ....but does not pair quite so easily with: Oops, I mean: But hey, it's your big day, so celebrate however you like, and party like it's 2009 or something!!!
  20. Have a wonderful birthday and a wonderful year, with many Wilco shows!
  21. Dearest Jen, Wishing you the brightest and best of days! A topsy-turvy cake for this topsy-turvy world we live in! May your day, and the year ahead, be filled with sugary sweetness!
  22. Susan, for everything you do to help out the fans & improve our Wilcoing experience, not to mention all the charitable events you give so selflessly to, I salute you. You're an amazing woman. Cake is in order! Today is also Alissa's half-birthday (she's 11 and a half, can you believe it?!) and she's getting half a strawberry cake as well as some cheap, half-wrapped (either giftwrap or bows, not both) presents.....anyway, I hope strawberry cake suits you, too. Have a wonderful day and a year full of happy moments.
  23. She has a point (Thanks, Flick).....please, guys, if a thread has a specific topic ("What's for Lunch", "Worst Political Jokes", "Favorite Shoe Leathers", whatever) then it is not "Random". Specific and random are opposites. Please do not put a thread into the random forum unless the thing is genuinely random, such as the RTT. Thanks. Also please do not duplicate threads which already exist, as they will be merged. M. Chris & gang, what a lovely, happy picture!
  24. What a sad outlook. Bet it would matter to him if he or someone he loved were one of the 5!
