  1. Like a lot of this wild and rambunctious crowd , I read books like breathing, constantly running out of material! God but I love a good story! I was noticing the other day that several of the books that have really moved me have been stories about animals....I guess I just really like getting out of the human perspective sometimes. With so many other creatures sharing the planet, it's fascinating to consider how things look to other species, and how they spend their lives. I'd love to hear some animal-centric books that have been powerful, absorbing reads for the rest of you. Here are three
  2. Hello and a hearty welcome to our cozy little boards.....watch out for that pizza crust over there, and the spill on the couch....jeebus, these guys are messy. But hey, they are good-hearted and have excellent musical taste! I trust somebody has filled you in on the policy about the latrine duties being the first week assignment of newbies like yourself? Sorry about that.....Supplies are under that cabinet over there...... See you at the Greek!
  3. Cloudy Lady, I have no further info on the rumor about a possible Red Rocks date. Wish I did. As for all you Davenportables, we have to try to meet each other! I'm going to be with a friend, so I'm not sure what our plans will be, before or after......but I really, really want to meet any VC'ers who'll be at this show! So please, don't be shy! I'm a shy one myself (I REALLY AM! ).....so i understand...but the ice breaks quickly. Introduce yourselves, please. I'll be in jeans and a wide-wale deep tan corduroy button front shirt. My son Brennan, a 16-yr-old who has recently defied gravity
  4. ROSIE!!!! But...but....it's not possible!!!!!! Because you're.....(kidsmoke does math in her head, never a pretty sight. Be glad this is on the internet without visuals.... ) ....you're 14, right????? Or maybe you're a 40-yr-old man hiding out in a dark, dank basement....it totally depends on who you believe. But hey, my "I Believe in Tweedy's Gurl" coffee mug here is pretty much irrefutable proof that that whole 40-yr-old man thing was just a rumor. Can you believe that even after a couple of good-sized earthquakes, my mug remains unbroken, even though it leapt off the shelf once w
  5. Psst....Alison....try "Patrick"
  6. Candy Floss, dear, you can make your point just as effectively in your topic title without resorting to all capitals, which is generally considered the online equivalent of screaming at people. No offense, but some of us were napping..... I've adjusted your volume a bit.
  7. Let me add my own welcome.... always great to meet new friends with such great musical taste!
  8. I'll bet you'd try to pay in Canadian dollars or something. What is the deal with that thread anyway? I tried to read it but my eyes started to water like I was peeling onions, so I had to stop.
  9. I'm very sorry you can't make it, Melissa! But we'll find a show to attend together eventually. I suggest everybody keep their calendars open for Red Rocks, CO.....a stellar venue for a big VC party. It's still in the rumor stage, but rumors are usually true, right?
  10. I've been doing a lot of thread-merging of late.
  11. I look forward to meeting you!
  12. Damn you! Damn You! Or as they say in Iowa, shucks!
  13. It will be nice to finally put a face with the legendary big perm.
  14. Coolio! This party is starting to come together.
  15. And it worked out well for you, Kris.
  16. Yay, we got Ken out from under his rock! Welcome home, boy, you look pale....put on some sunblock! How're the twinsleys? The pre-sale is scheduled for as soon as I can scare up enough to buy tickets. I think. Right? (She said hopefully....) It'll be great to see you, Ken, and everybody else.
  17. Somebody needs to be revising some plans, yes? I'm sorry I didn't let you know, but honestly, I'm still trying to get my act together here! Brennan is joining me!!! So buy some tickets already!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to meet you and Adam.
  18. Yay Eric, see you there! Scott, there's still time to change your mind and come to Davenport.....
  19. I'm gonna start us a proper Davenport roll call thread....please post there if you'll be at this show! Stardog.....you?!!!
  20. So happy for you Bonnie!!
  21. See, now this is what I call real learning. Earl, honey, I retract that fish I whapped you with.
  22. I'm sorry, I don't believe you. Sounds fishy. Fishy statistics.
  23. I had better not find any 672 area code phone numbers on my phone bill, or my kids are gonna be extremely grounded. Has anyone else noticed how there's a very weird reverse echo in here? By the way, a duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why. Spooky.
  24. You sound like somebody who would really enjoy Shana Alexander's book, "The Astonishing Elephant". Full of great historical accounts and amazing facts, a fantastic read.
