  1. interesting to see what npr listeners have picked. side note: i was wearing a t-shirt from the 9:30 club. a young guy at a show asked me what it was. when is told him it was a club in washington dc he said, "the all songs considered club." it's a brave new world.
  2. me, too! great pattern! found these knitted robots linked for a site st.g posted in the rtt: knitted robots very very cool.
  3. sis-sooie-i always thought those looms knit tubes. who knew?! a couple of the patterns on that link look cool. (the pic of the bonnet on a doll is quite creepy, tho.) poppy: LOVE the feedsack quilt. the colors of that era are distinctive. that pale green/aqua, pink, brown and yellow. how wonderful that your granny found quilt tops made by her mother and finished them! a couple of years ago my sisters sent me two pieced tops made by my (long deceased) grandma with the request that i finish them for my sisters. now that i'm thinking about it: that is a pretty great project to loo
  4. i wonder if we made the same error transcribing the pattern! i can pick out the "grandma's flower garden" pattern quilt behind you. what a wonderful gift! i have a couple quilts my grandmother made from my dad's old shirts when he was little. she was a seamstress, so all the scraps worked their way into her quilts.
  5. poppy, if i had looked back a couple of pages, i would have seen you post this pic. this is the pattern i am knitting now. if one doesn't add the extra, oh, 20-odd rows of cabling, these gloves can be finished in two days.
  6. KATE! that blanket looks and sounds amazingly cozy! lucky, lucky cousin. when i make quilts to give away, i always sleep under them once or twice before they go out. just have to. also: am knitting these gloves: fetching from knitty i'm using a deep orange merino/cashmere/microfibre blend. i copied the pattern wrong (sigh) so the cuffs are actually about 4 cables longer. still: perfect for my jackets with loose cuffs.
  7. bjorn and mr.rain: christ. what awful stuff. mr.r.: hope things with the drunk driver are as pain-free as possible. jesus.
  8. solace i am envious of your andrew bird wealth!! i was this close to buying a plane ticket to minnesota yesterday. and i did a rapid time/plane travel computation in my head just now when i read you had extra tix. man oh man. that was close. ps. saw him play two shows last week: los angeles, san francisco. in l.a. my friend turned to me and asked, "is it possible he's getting even better?" the band is soooooo good, and they are making BEAUTIFUL music. HAVE A FAB TIME, KYLE!
  9. sorry your pre-sale was a wash out. typing all those words is odd. odd, i tell you!
  10. wendy, you were the fourth person to post in this thread. don't you love califone anymore?
  11. hc--if someone's purchase doesn't go thru, tix may come avail again. don't forget everyone: the shows arent' sold out, just these 5 day passes. ONWARD!!
  12. it will probably be 5 diff tix, that will arrive strung together. it's how they handled the multi-day tix in denver.
  13. shut out. i am about 1-15 on pre-sales.
  14. of note: there is a starbucks on the corner directly across from the riv. science fact.
  15. fab either way! i can see why cobra has to have it's own side. "it's been a great 3 or 4 years" always suprises me when it comes up. it's such a sweet and wonderful message.
  16. sweet jesus. what's not to love, i ask. presidents' day. that's helpful.
  17. tennessee fire is terrific! i recommend getting this! 1. Heartbreakin Man 2. They Ran 3. The Bear 4. Nashville To Kentucky 5. Old September Blues 6. If All Else Fails 7. It's About Twilight Now 8. Evelyn Is Not Real 9. War Begun 10. Picture Of You 11. I Will Be There When You Die 12. The Dark 13. By My Car 14. Butch Cassidy 15. I Think I'm Going To Hell the chocolate & ice ep isn't a new release: the rad swirly vinyl is new, but the recording has been out on cd since 2002. here's the track list: 1. Can You See The Hard Helmet On My Head 2. Sooner 3. Cobra 4. It's Been A Great 3
  18. the cabin session was filmed by the same crew that shot the 4 nights at the vic. the whole thing has been put on the shelf. this famous pic was taken during those sessions. you can really see how exhauted everyone was.
  19. on the it still moves album it sounds like "jesaw" jim's not known for his diction. also seems like he's often singing to express and emotion rather than make a point. of note: that OBH from the bridge school was AMAZING!! crowd gave them a standing ovation at the end of their set.
  20. it was a tough hit to take when it finally shut down. bought my uncle tupelo cds there. they always had something really interesting on the endcaps, too. fun fact: once shopped next to benicio del toro in the jazz section, there.
  21. from mmj "steam engine:" to anyone who wondered what old jebus meant to me take him out to go diving in red patoka sea the brain melts in the twilight with the boar and moving trees for anyone who's looking to get even further into discussion about mmj, they have a forum link on the band's website. i don't want to give anyone the impression i'm checking the mmj love here at vc! just want you to know that it's there. *cough* i spend a little time there, myself.
