I'm digging a lot of the Blitzen Trapper album pitchfork raved about last week. The title track may be the best jam of the summer. Also playing from 2007: Dolorean Elvis Perkins The Magnolia Electric Co. box O'Death Rock Plaza Central Shearwater Tom Brosseau plus the stuff all the kids are digging these days, like the arcade fire, the white stripes and dr. dog.

Yeah. I'm not really sure why they didn't just put that out rather than putting the songs on separate releases. "No Moon On The Water" rocks, and "Texas 71" is f'n beautiful. I think that's one of the ones he wrote for Willie Nelson.

When does Lucky Louie come back on? I can only take cutesy Kiwi humor for so long.

After 5 or 6 listens this is growing on me, but it's still your typical Ryan Adams post-Heartbreaker release--a few great, great songs and a bunch of filler. "Two" is a little AOR for my tastes, and I'm not into "Oh My God..." or "Off Broadyway" either. "Tears of Gold" is fucking beautiful though.

No, but almost all of them are playing in Oklahoma in July. http://www.rockfeverfest.com/artists.php

these kids today...

I think it's one thing for a kid to see a typical Hollywood action flick, with explosions and Nicolas Cage and what not. I mean, I watched Top Gun and Iron Eagle and stuff alot when i was a kid, but I had been taught to respect the difference between fantasy and reality. Hostel, on the other hand, is just fucked up. I really don't understand why adults would watch that shit, and I think taking young children to see it should be a punishable offense.

I know most of you on here that have kids are responsible, loving care-givers But if you know some dumb motherfuckers with kids, and I'm sure many of you do, make sure they read this. http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark...re_you_tryi.php Can you imagine? I saw Gremlins when I was 4 or 5 and i couldn't go to the bathroom by myself for months. If I had seen Hostel I'd probably be a serial killer by now.

I had my hopes up until I listened to the songs on myspace. "Halloween Head," especially.

Oh god no. The Raconteurs suck! Brendan Benson isn't fit to change Jack White's guitar strings. And a world without Meg White dry humping her drum kit would be sad, indeed.

Phosphorescent (Will Oldham + Neutral Milk Hotel + Kris Kristofferson=bliss) Brothers and Sisters (jangly folk-pop from Austin) Current Leaves (Psychedelic country straight out of Denton, TX) Eleventh Dream Day (underrated Midwestern indie-rock pioneers) Alela Diane (Joanna Newsom-esque folk singer from California) Micah P. Hinson (best thing to come out of Abilene, TX in years) Oakley Hall (just signed to merge, put out two great albums last year) Pleasant Grove (Best Dallas band of my lifetime. Auscultation of the Heart is a lost classic.) The Theater Fire (Fort Worth Mariachi-rock)

Has anybody here ever bought a refurbished mac? I'm thinking of trying that route for a macbook. Knocks about $200 off the price, but you get the same warranty from what I understand.

The last time they were slated to come through North Texas I was able to interview Timothy. The show got cancelled though, so I never got to write anything about it...He's a really nice fella, loves to talk sports. He writes a sports column on occasion for some website/magazine in NYC. If I can find the link he sent me I'll put it up here. I remember him telling me that Pete Hoffman was getting married and leaving the band for the foreseeable future, which is sad. I'm glad Glurp is putting something out but I don't understand why these guys have never been picked up by a Merge or a Matador or

Dirk is back, y'all! And Matt Barnes is a punk. Reminds me of that Rufio kid from Hook. Is it just me or have the refs been super shitty this series? I think both sides have received some hellacious calls.

I wrote a song about the Indianapolis after watching that scene about a million times. Classic. (The scene, not the song).

"Apparently, there's no piano on the album, but there is a synthesizer on the song "Icky Thump", which happens to be the same synthesizer used on the Tornados' legendary "Telstar"." http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news...humpi-tracklist

It's actually just a primitive synth from what I understand. The same one used on "Telstar," in fact. I think I read that on pitchfork, maybe?

This is one of the better stations to come along in these parts in recent years (which isn't saying much, unfortunately), but the overabundance of white blues is killing me. I've heard way too much Stevie Ray and George Thorogood for my own good. It's also run by Clear Channel, who might just be teasing us with a Wilco carrot before netting us, putting us all in cages and making us listen to 3 Doors Down till we break.

This is hard. I might have to cheat. '60s The Band The Band The Beach Boys Pet Sounds '70s Neil Young On the Beach The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers -or- Willie Nelson Red Headed Stranger Richard and Linda Thompson I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight '80s Bruce Springsteen Nebraska The Replacements Let It Be '90s Steve Earle I Feel Alright Wilco/Billy Bragg Mermaid Avenue '00s Wilco Yankee Hotel Foxtrot The Constantines Shine A Light

That's a little better. It's certainly touching lyrically, but I'm still not that into it. I wasn't into the Isbell songs on the last Truckers album either, though. I still think his best songs were on Decoration Day and the Dirty South.

On first listen, this sounds super generic to me. Like Tom Cochrane "Life is a Highway" generic. What's the deal?
