Where to start with The Grateful Dead?
El Picador replied to reverandgroove's topic in Someone Else's Song
Funny how everytime I start listening to Grateful Dead, about this same time each year, I can't stop for awhile. I'm hooked at this very moment on Englishtown 9/3/77. -

Aarvid, Congrats on getting out of stilly. I got out last summer and couldn't be happier. I'll be catching The National at The Wiltern this fall. It's great to finally live somewhere where bands tour, isn't it?

This film made me very happy. I especially like Marketa Irglova's song "If You Want Me" and the scene where she puts on her headphones and is walking home and all the kids are following her. I feel it was the perfect "real" love story.

North County - Encinitas My brother and his wife live there and I wish I did. It's such a mellow little coastal town with plenty of good restaurants, beaches and even a great record shop (Lou's). I would move there in a heartbeat if I had the money and a job down that way. Also, my best friend and his wife live in San Marcos and they love it there but I'd prefer to live a little closer to the Ocean.

Dick's Picks 29 is a great place to start. It is 6 disks from 2 or 3 different shows in May '77. I loaded my changer up in my car with these a few days ago and have been stoked. I think May '77 GD is probably the most polished you will ever hear them. Check it out. -

Thanks! I'm listening to a great audience copy of 6/28/74 as I type with an old Deadhead buddy. This Let it Grow is insanely good! Although they don't get as much of my attention as they used to, I will always love GD. I love Wilco too...but in a different way. -

The outtakes has 2 versions of Mountains of the Moon, neither of which has the choir (at least the copy I have). Here's a link to the vinyl rip of the Aoxomoxoa that has uncut versions of songs, including MOTM with the choir. Aoxomoxoa - vinyl rip - 1970 -

I like the one show a year idea. Here's my list: 07/16/66 - Beautiful soundboard out there - played on GD hour years ago 03/18/67 - I love this show! Probably the blueisest GD I ever heard 10/30/68 - Mickey and the Hartbeats - Dark Star jam -> Death Letter Blues 04/22/69 - Dupree's> Mountains Of The Moon> Dark Star> St. Stephen> The Eleven> Lovelight> Caution Jam> Lovelight 05/02/70 - Best acoustic set followed by 2 balls out electric sets. Ever heard the alternate version with the choir girls? It's my favorite. A friend of mine had an original pressing of Aoxomoxoa when we were teenagers and he recorded it for me. I still have the tape somewhere in storage with my other 1000 grateful dead tapes. If it's floating around out there in the internets you should pick it up. -
Thanks for reminding me of this heroic act. This thread and the whole situation with Benoit was beginning to make me feel a little queasy. I like to think that the majority of humans have more James Kim in them than Chris Benoit.

I didn't know about it. You should have called. -
"I want to be remembered as a good teammate," he said. "That's the most important thing for me. Numbers, I can't point to anything I want to do. Continue to produce. The fans, I want them to remember how I played. Not necessarily what I did, but when I took the field, when I played right field, and when I ran around the bases. No numbers. Just a picture of how I played." -Vladimir Gurrero I thought this quote from today's L.A. times pretty much sums up why I like this guy so much.

"I've got to say, I love Erick Aybar's 144 at bats of .557 OPS. Holy crap, I'm honestly shocked you guys have as good a record as you do with that many at bats from him. Thats amazing, actually." Are you sure you didn't say that? I never said refusal to trade prospects was a good thing. I merely stated the fact that Bill Stoneman won't trade his prospects. I would love to have Glaus, Texeira, Dunn, etc. But it aint gonna happen. I've been one of many die hard Angel fans calling for a bat to protect Vlad for the past 3 seasons. The fact is I have given up hope for that because I know the

OK, so it's not that surprising that you'd look at the #s of a utility to judge the quality of the team's play as a whole. Seriously, Aybar was a regular for a month and didn't play bad and he has received some pinch hit at bats, but he really hasn't played that much and won't see much more playing time at this level this season. Are you going to quote me on that? All I said was Stoneman doesn't trade his young talent. I'd love to have Teixeira but a)Stoneman won't trade prospects b. Texas probably wouldn't want to trade their best player to a division rival c) He'd have to DH as Kotchma

Rivera had a career year in 2007 after finally receiving much deserved playing time. He was tearing it up in winter ball when he broke his leg. It is tough to expect him to return quickly to form but it's worth the gamble rather than trading away hot, young prospects for a rental. As for Willits, Cabrera and Kotchman, once again it is important to watch these guys play and not keep pulling up career stats. All three of these guys are taking the same patient approach at the plate. If you look at their strikeouts/walk ratio, all three are walking as much - if not more - than they are striking ou
-
If you watched their approach at the plate night after night you might think otherwise. Also, there are a couple other guys who are just tearing it up - Chone Figgins and Howie Kendrick (why don't you through his minor league stats up here so we can make projections). The Angels are not desperately seeking out a bat. Juan Rivera is due back mid-July to provide a boost in power behind Vlad and to relieve Shea Hillenbrand of his suckiness. They have all the necessary elements of a championship caliber team and there's no reason to screw that up. I believe this team will continue to hit like

Are you kidding me?! Tied for most wins in baseball with 4 hitters in the top 12 in batting (AL). C'mon, check your facts before posting next time.

Bill Stoneman doesn't make trades. The depth of this team is ridiculous.

I just bought my 6 year old son a boogie board and I'm in the process of teaching him to ride waves on it. Yesterday was our first experience and he had a blast. He went today with his uncle while I sit here and work away.
