  1. I wish the Jerry estate could get their shit together and release the Jerry stuff digitally. I'd love to get Legion of Mary, After Midnight, Pure Jerry etc., but don't need a physical copy. Wonder what the hold up is.
  2. that's a cool video and I'm glad to hear that Jeff is not shy about talking about being inspired to write songs by listening to other songs. This was one of the first wilco tunes i hear too. I knew of UT, but never paid attention. I new about AM too as I worked at a fairly cool record store. One of my coworkers was schooling on me on the Jay/Jeff thing when BT came out. So fun to be on the cusp of Wilco's break out in real time.
  3. Is it possible that Jeff wrote that tune for me to hear at a specific hour today that almost left me in tears? Wow, that tune just hit me today in a profound way. That first verse just explained my whole world for a few moments. Quite validating. Thanks Jeff.
  4. Parish and Phil's books are not amazing. They are easily skimmed while hanging at the book store...when they had book stores. I liked Blair Jackon's books best. I return to Garcia and Going Down the Road often for info. Of course, Box of Rain is a no brainer. It's cool seeing all the stuff Hunter wrote that Jerry didn't use. Terrapin Tapes!!
  5. right. not sure if that's a buzz kill or cool. i used to like donna songs long ago, now i find them a bit annoying.
  6. i will say those tunes up at dead.net sound pretty good, especially that half step. so good. just want to camp out in that half step space and cross the rio grandeo.
  7. Yeah, the amp situation sucked. Great tele riffs though.
  8. Thanks for the 94 Dew recommendation. I wish the band would pull together some gems from the latter years and put out a set a la Without a Net. Fix up the recordings a bit etc. Maybe dedicate it to garcia. I assume it's much more work than just releasing shows. The mention of the high time above makes me think some best of selections are in order along with the warts and all stuff. Another great latter day show is linked below. The pre-drums is ridiculous and played flawlessly. X factor show. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mleone/gdead/dead-sets/93/9-13-93.txt The Spectrum, Philadelphia,
  9. yeah, many of those tunes are bust outs. so damn cool. i saw him in 92 and it was incredible. i've kind of kept myself from seeing him since then. if this tour comes by though, i'll go. it's really really neat that we can still go see paul Mcca from the fucking beatles today! he sounds incredible too, even in those shitty videos!
  10. i'm pretty sure bob's been clean and healthy for a long time. his voice has never deteriorated and i remember several interviews with him discussing his yoga/fitness/food regime. vibes his way. i didn't like seeing that. what a trooper
  11. that is ridiculous. go late and get a cheap ticket. these guys never sell out. what i would pay some money for is phil, bob, jay and jason in a small theater with an episode of Weir Here at set break. that would be quite satisfying. the slow tempos they play these days work better in a smaller, semi acoustic setting. i just love weir here. oh, and i'd love to see bob and rob tour again. so great.
  12. new Weir Here. i love this shit. so chill and the mix is so warm. dave schools, kimock! just fun. leslie is great too...great voice and rhodes. love it.
  13. 1983, my parents were hosting some church youth group thing and the brought a bunch of records. this one guy played Jump by VH and was mouthing the words. Oh man, that was it! So the first record I bought was the Jump single. I had started listening to music in the late 70s early 80s, but it was kids stuff. Although, my mom got me some Olivia Newton John single and I played the shit out of that. Another one was when I was on some cross country trip to a race. i was in 8th grade and the high school kids in the back were listening to the Dead. at that moment i just wanted to hear garcia
  14. Starcastle is the poor man's Yes. Marillion is the poor man's Genesis. The Stones are the poor man's Beatles Robin Trower is the poor man's Hendrix Paul McCartney is the poor man's Paul McCartney Ringo Star is the poor man's George Harrison Triumvirat is the poor man's ELP Bowie is the poor man's Lou Reed/Marc Bolan Any number of horrible, derivative indie bands are the poor man's Wilco This is fun
  15. i'm not a Foo's fan, but Grohl is a great drummer. has his own sound despite any ridiculous production effects put on it. if there ever was another Zep reunion show, I'd love to see him sit in. My favs: Brian Blade Bill Bruford Neil Peart Mike Mangini Mike Portnoy
  16. i was a fair weather REM fan and listened to the shit out of Green and Out of Time. Great, great albums through and through. Hairshirt, World Leader Pretend..I mean, come on!
  17. What's so funny about this state of mind is that, for all intents and purposes, gay folks have been getting 'married' since the beginning of humanity. And what do you know, the world hasn't ended. This is almost clinically psychotic behavior; completely out of touch with reality.
  18. Phil Chris Squire Jaco Geddy Lee Billy Talbott Jonas Reingold Roger Waters John S.
  19. Garcia Weir Neil Young Stephen Stills Alex Lifeson Steve Howe Frank Zappa Pat Metheny Mark Kozelek Jeff Tweedy Jay Farrar David Gilmour John Patrucci Allan Holdsworth Steve Kimock
  20. i just cannot believe this. i'm so sad and shocked. i'm from ohio and always loved jason's midwestern, laid back feeling in his music. the grey skies of winter, the wind that bites and the dark, doom, validation this all brings. owls, wolves and ghosts sing sad, sad songs tonight for the keeper of their muse passes away on that biting wind. what comes after the blues? this or that. life, death and addiction what a nightmare rest in peace my age ohio brother. Farewell Transmission will always blare when I drive through Lima, OH
  21. the second part of weir here is still up with the Playin'. i love that version. so chill! it's gotten me on a Ratdog kick.
  22. That Weir Here show was incredible! so chill. that was the best post-dead Dead music i have heard since garcia died. seriously. phil, bob, mark and jason. thats all that is needed. i loved hearing bob and phil so clearly and the drums were so clean and warm. so good. this is what they need to do and play some small theaters. so good.
  23. i loved Weir's sport coat! i don't get the Hagar thing either. he came out at a Dead show here in atlanta in 04 i believe and did US Blues...i think it was that tune. Loved seeing Parish...'you're a damn good audience!'
  24. i would pay good money to see just bob and phil! that is good stuff.
