  1. does anyone know if Blue Earth is supposed to be reissued too?
  2. that's not good to hear. i need to stay off the internet too:)
  3. good point. i guess was just thinking about my favorite artist, Neil Young. i'm willing to check out all his stuff, no matter what. doesn't mean i'll love it. that being said, i'd probably warm up to something that i initially didn't like by him. trans being one example. i was just thinking the same about ryan adams. whether he is Smiths mode or country rocker mode it's him, his voice, his songs, his guitar. i assume a big fan would give anything he put out a chance. so i think we agree:)
  4. well, we'll have to agree to disagree. i'm trying not to be judgmental about music and i'm glad you called me out on it. i'm especially trying not to be negative on forums etc. you're right, indie rock is a broad category and my criticism was a big swipe at a lot of folks who don't deserve it. now, as far as mmj goes, i love their music and jim does have a good voice, but i just don't like when he intentionally sings off key and his falsetto screams. just doesn't fit the music for me. case in point, the end of Wordless Chorus. just my opinion, judging over:)
  5. i vowed in 96. however, i did end up seeing him again when he opened for 'the dead' in 04 i think. that was actually kind of fun because my wife was with me and he played silvio which is her favorite dylan song. i can't imagine going through the hassle of buying tickets, getting a sitter etc. to see dylan. but if the stars were aligned and i got a free ticket i'd go. i really like his band and he just mumbles up there. also, he plays a short show, which is nice.
  6. i was referring to indie rock and it's pretty bad. LCD sound system...i mean really?
  7. good post. people who like ryan will like what he does, no matter what. fair weather fans wont and will moan. same with neil young. dare i say i'd even like a hip hop album by him, because i like him and i'm with him all the way (not his ticket prices though). however, i don't think an artist has bust into an entire new genre to grow. jay farrar has stayed in the same vein for years and still is working on writing good songs.
  8. i'm with you on 1 and maybe 2. i'm not sure anyone will die. quin wont because he is a main character now. if anyone dies, its lumen. i think it'll work out that way. dex can't have everything. real love for him will be fleeting. in addition, luman will die an honorable death. she'll be the one to give jordan the death blow and she will have finished her task. next season will then hopefully focus on the quin and dex stuff and then deb finding out. that last scene the previews tries to show that deb sees dex in some untoward behavior, but i think that was just a red herring. i can't
  9. Been listening to the Final Cut lately. The lyrics, melodies, and guitar are really coming together for me and it's almost too much. I'm getting misty-eyed in several spots. Great, great album. Roger should have toured this in 2003.
  10. funny thing is, is that his 'bad' stuff is so much more involved in production and arrangements etc. Heartbreaker was just voice, guitar and some simple chord progressions. less work, no?
  11. Dex is a superhero, not a vigilante
  12. well, he doesn't sing on those records...he just fucks around with his voice. if the guy just sang straight those albums would be a whole lot better. oh, and take out some of the reverb on the less than stellar songs. oh, and delete Stop altogether.
  13. okay so here is a quote from npr's review of the video... "The combination of vocals, timing, out-of-tune and off key guitar solos, and general apathy of the unknown band from an unknown place make this the worst Pink Floyd cover we've ever seen." now, replace the last part with 'the greatest new indie band' and you have the basic reviews of all this shit that has been coming out over the last 20 years. that's all new music sounds like these days to me...off key vocals, out of tune guitars, etc. beach house, my morning jacket...
  14. it's like those guys have never ever played an instrument before in their lives until they went on stage.
  15. i liked tift merrit's first few albums but man, these last two she has just become so syrupy.
  16. nothing really blew me away. stuff i was interested in... le noise-neil young the promise-springsteen big to do-dbt many colored kite-mark olson
  17. well, if you are/were a dead head or phish fan i'm sure you've packed some in. when i'd go on dead tour and had money, the days off i'd try to see a show. i remember seeing 3 dead shows then CSN then 2 more dead shows. pretty fun. it got really hectic when the dead and phish were touring. of course, this was when i was 20 years old. could never ever do that now. just seeing autumn defense at an in-store then the show a few hours afterward wore me out:)
  18. it's produced well and has some great songs. i think it was a one off project that john and laurie had been wanting to do for years. to my ears, laurie can't carry a tune. it's def a more country sounding record rather than the 'soft rock' stuff that autumn defense does.
  19. he just has a different sound than glen. he's awesome on AM as far as i'm concerned.
  20. from what i've seen it seems to have a jesus christ superstar feel to it. roger running around on stage putting trench coats on and 'singing' behind a session band.
  21. this is really exciting. especially mark's quote about playing with gary the rest of his life. can't believe it's taken this long. when i saw them back together in 05 i was sure something new was on the horizon. next summer 2011 might be pretty amazing with a new DBT in a few months a jayhawks album and probably new wilco and jay farrar records. hard to keep up sometimes:) btw- that pic is very cool, especially karen playing a rhodes:)
  22. i hope bruce is inspired by his revisiting the darkness stuff and just writes some basic pop songs and records live like the darkness at paramount dvd. just guitars, bass, drums and keys. not background singers, no goofy brendan obrian production and maybe no nils....sorry.
