  1. Rich kids play dress-up, cause two hour lull in my weeekend. Worst movie I've ever seen not starring Steve Gutneberg. Thoroughly entertaining.
  2. I just got the latest Guitar Player magazine in the mail. There's a short article on St. Vincent. Interesting to learn that her uncle is Tuck Andress, from Tuck and Patti.
  3. Lately the KC I've been most into is the somewhat overlooked period between the first lineup and the Bruford/Wetton lineup...Lizard and Islands. There is some great music on those two records. I got to see KC twice on their double trio, Thrak tour, and they were amazing. Then I saw them on the next tour, after Bruford and Tony Levin left the band, and they were pretty pathetic. One of my favorite prog bands that hasn't been mentioned yet on this thread is Soft Machine.
  4. This might wind up being an unpopular thread. I think there were some prog fans on here before the forum went dark last week. Maybe they haven't come back yet, but hopefully they will and will chime in when they do. Anyway, before I got sidetracked by work I meant to mention in my previous post that a lot (maybe even all) of the current/recent music I've heard which gets described as "prog" or "progressive" has left me cold. To me it feels overly polished and clinical...like it's too well played or too well recorded. Some of these bands include Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Tool, and to

    Watt & Nels

These two dudes have a new band called Floored by Four. The band also features Dougie Bowne (drums, formerly with the Lounge Lizards) and Yuka Honda (I'm not sure what she'll be doing/playing). Should be pretty amazing. They're playing in New York on August 1. http://www.hootpage.com/
  6. I haven't seen Ashes yet, so I can't comment on it. Of all the videos/TV appearances I've seen of this lineup, I think the Burn to Shine performance of Muzzle of Bees is the best example of how a six person band can operate without any clutter or overplaying. It's beautiful how little each person does in that performance. That's a rare thing with any band. Sometimes concert videos are just plain boring, and can often be annoying. I remember being so bored and annoyed (thanks to all the inside jokes and apparent boredness and annoyance of the people in the film) by the "1991: The Year
  7. It'd be kind of funny if it was just Tweedy being backed up by the Max Weinburg 7.
  8. I'd probably go, too. I've never seen Rod, or any of the Faces except for Ronnie with the Stones on the Bridges to Babylon tour. I remember when I was at the first Lollapalooza show (in '91, I think) there were ads for an upcoming Rod Stewart show for $9. That was during his pink blazer and lime green pants/Miami Vice phase. I sort of regret not going to that show.
  9. I like a lot of '60s/'70s prog bands: Yes, King Crimson, Focus, Rush, etc. I have several of the Gabriel era Genesis albums, but I haven't spent much time listening to them, so they're still somewhat uncharted territory for me.
  10. Why is there a Jorgensen strap? Is he playing Keytar now?
  11. In theory, I agee. Drunkeness was a major ingredient in the Faces persona. I'd rather they sound good than be drunk, though. Anyway, I'm not sure I agree with my coworker about the American Idol thing. It couuld just be that Rod is getting to the point where he no longer has a strong singing voice.
  12. Since he's an old man, maybe his rifle was disguised as a cane...probably got the idea from the spy museum down the street.
  13. What I read said he got shot. Hopefully it hurt really bad, then he died.
  14. Yeah, now that you mention it, I heard the same thing. A coworker who always seems to know the celeb-gossip said Rod was drunk off his ass at American Idol, and that was why he couldn't sing. If that's the case, it doesn't bode well for a Faces performance.
  15. Looks to me like a Hamer Special:
  16. I used to jam with my grandmother and grandfather. She played piano and organ and he played trumpet. I was on the drums. "All of Me" was our best tune.
  17. If Rod's American Idol performance is any indication, he is definitely not in any shape to pull off a Faces concert. Or even a single Faces song.
  18. What would be the best way to go about claiming rights to, and being payed for the use of the phrase "formed out of the ashes of Uncle Tupelo"?
  19. It's not even 9 am and I've already learned two bizarre pieces of information. At this rate this could be a great day.
  20. Hmm, maybe that's where the term "chops" comes from. Like chopping wood. In the woodshed.
  21. Last week I got the Beatles anthology 2 from the library. It says Joe Cocker recorded his version of "Something" before the Beatles recorded their version. I found that pretty incredible. His first two albums can stand up to just about any record ever released, in my opinion.
  22. Gotta admit, despite an admittedly irrational aversion to this artist (stemming from excessive hype) I liked what I saw/heard on her Youtube clips. Now I even have to begrudgingly admit that Jackson Browne wrote a really great song once.
  23. Well, it is funny in that it pwned* the previous poster. *That's a word, right?
