Too true, and a lot of it exists apart from the tradition Steven Van Zant claims is so important (Sonic Youth, for example). Van Zant has a somewhat valid point, but if you listen to his XM station a large portion of the new music they play is either novelty songs, bland throwbacks or songs by bands who clearly can not play their instruments well. I think that puts a big dent in his argument.

I tried one of those on the day I got my Blueridge, and I almost bought it. I think I would be satisfied if I had chosen the Epiphone over the Blueridge. The Epiphone felt very well made and had a nice sound. I looked through my Elderly Instruments catalog yesterday, and the Recording King guitars (which someone mentioned as an option) are in the high $400-low $500 range. I've heard good things about that brand, but I'm not sure how widely available they are. That'd be another contender if there's a dealer in your area.

Seagull makes a bunch of different models now. When I got mine, it seemed like the S6 was the only model and the options were: cutaway or no cutaway, pickup/eq or no pickup/eq. I got the most basic model: no pickup, no cutaway. Maybe a different Seagull model would be suitable. http://www.seagullguitars.com/productlisting.htm

My first acoustic was a Seagul S6. I still have it. I think I payed $299 or maybe low $300s for it in the early '90s. It's a very nice guitar, but it is a little bass heavy which seems to be one of the things you're hoping to avoid. Maybe the newer models are more balanced. Definitely worth checking out a Seagull.

I have a Blueridge and I like it a lot. Mine is the BR143. I got mine used (well, I traded for it) and it was priced at $450. http://theguitarhut.net/blueridge_br_143_guitar.htm

Differences: no X action figues on the market That's it.

There are far more similarities than differences between those two. In fact, there are virtually no differences.

Could have been, now that you mention it.

I almost got my ass kicked by a bum at a free Parliament-Funkadelic concert because I asked him to stop blowing his whistle in my ear.

Who said anything about getting your ass kicked?

Yeah, I've been saying this since A Different World. I've never heard anyone express an opposing view. I recently saw this one, which she's in, and which was very enjoyable:

Really? Every Wilco show I've been to, except for one, was all assigned seats. I'd probaly sit if I was on the front row of the balcony, but otherwise I stand.

I think it's pronounced "Crow-TALL-ay".

If you can prove that, then I guess DMB is a two octave set of crotales away from being Wilco. This whole thread should be merged with the inane comments thread.

DMB: Chimes, no crotales WILCO: Crotales, no chimes Wilco and DMB couldn't be more different.

I wonder if they teach this in J-shcool

That's probably true. When I got my journalism degree 10 years ago, I had never heard of "J-School". -
Wait, I was thinking of a dirfferent song.

You Never Know is only 3:13.

If you listen to "Where the Streets Have No Name" backwards it tells you where the wilco loft is.

I like that edge has earned a capital E.

I did the same thing. I still have those tapes. I totally regret not going to the SRV/Jeff Beck co-headline tour. As for Jimmy, I agree he's a great player. I think part of the reason he gets overlooked is because the Fabulous Thunderbirds was considered a cheesy band.
