  1. I'll bet that damn Jeff Tweedy has been short-changing Jay his share of the royalties from the Kot book.
  2. I've been reading Watt's (and band's) tour diary. Sounds like they've been enjoying opening for Dinosaur. That's cool that you got to hear some new stuff. Those guys are in the studio right now working on the new album. So, Watt has the Black Gang album with Nels all wrapped up and now this one. I'm glad to see Watt working his own bands again after so long working as a sideman (sidemouse), though it's too bad Ron Asheton's death was the impetus.
  3. He could always just say "I can't coment as the case is still pending".
  4. Imagine if you were one of the guys who had to position those heavy glass walls out onto the ledge and set them into place. Shudder.
  5. Depends. Is there a documentary film crew following Jay through this process?
  6. It seems to me the movie portrayed Jay as the rock guy. Jay wanted to play a bunch of easy rockers at the Grant Park show rather than learning how to play live versions of the YHF stuff. Then Jay and Jeff had their tiff over one guitar vs. two guitars. Jay took the side of two guitars, citing it as "more rockin'". Jeff said two guitars was obsolete, sending Jay to the dictionary. So I guess if it weren't for Jay Wilco would have been neither rockin' nor experimental. Leaving what, exactly?
  7. That Volkswagen is a nice touch.
  8. Unknown Instructors: The Way Things Work (Mike Watt / George Hurley / Joe Baiza / Dan McGuire)
  9. Must've been pretty low. The only reason I took the job at Wendy's was because Taco Bell was only offering $3-something. EDIT>>>getting back to topic, I think there was a Boston song on the Wendy's in-house music service.
  10. You made $4.35 in 1977? That's huge money. I was making $4.25 in 1988 at Wendy's, and the only perk to that job was that it was easy to steal french fries.
  11. Is that true? That's the same way Neil Schon found Journey's current singer. I've heard the theory before that if you name your band after a place, the bigger the place is the worse the band will be. So I guess that means Boston > Kansas > Europe.
  12. Oh good. Last week I was going to ask on this thread if there is a good SY bio, then I found out about that book. I didn't know it was out yet.
  13. Has Hannity or Limbaugh made hay about the fact that there's a San Francisco sign in that photo?
  14. In that same spot (and up by the upper neck bout) you can see that the pickguard looks like it is poorly fit. The pickguard edges don't match up with the edges of the metal switch covers. Is this how all Jag pickguards fit?
  15. No doubt Leroy's an amazing musician. I wish I had seen Wilco more times when he was in the group. hell, i wish I'd see 5ive Style more times. He was great with them, too.
  16. I think this might be an illusion. Having two people playing keys in the band means that neither of them are going to be playing as much as a single keyboard player. At my most recent show I had seats in front of Pat, and with a good view of Mikael. Those guys stayed pretty busy. Not as busy as a single keyboard player, but the combined sound was very full and very important to the band sound. I might be misinterpreting your use of the word focus. If you mean there's less keyboard solos, I'd probasbly agree.
  17. Here are some photos from the Athens show: http://ohmpark.com/photos/photos-wilco-a-h...thens-ga-42009/
  18. Good question. There are only two or three songs in the entire Wilco catalog that have long guitar solos.
  19. Has Hannity agreed to Olberman's $1000 per second waterboarding for charity challenge yet?
  20. Eh, they'll just get some space mexicans to do it for cheap.
  21. I have what most people would consider a large record collection and I think 80% of music sucks, probably more like 90%. The good thing is, there's SO MUCH music that no matter what your tastes are, you can have a large collection of music you like.
  22. For the sake of syntactical accuracy, that bolded word should be could.

    New album news!

Is there a need to come on this thread and say "this new album is going to suck, just like Sky Blue Sky, because of that damn Nels Cline and his emotionless wanking"? We all like Wilco. Some of us think the bad is smokin' right now and are excited for the new album. Others think the band is at a low point and assume the album won't be very good. Both are valid opinions, but what's the bigger crime, attempting to fend off negativity (sometimes in the form of defensiveness) or creating negativity (by badmouthing the musicianship of certain members of the band)?
  24. Voting wise, Specter changing parties won't change much, just as nothing would have changed if Zell Miller had switched to the Republican party.

    New album news!

I don't see the jam band similarity. Having been pretty heavily into the HORDE era of the jamband scene, it seems to me that a lot of that music was (is?) made up of each band member playing a lot of notes a lot of the time. In the current Wilco lineup, each member plays very little most of the time. Granted Nels' solos tend to contain a lot of notes, but during the non-solo portions of their concerts, they are very much an ensemble in which each small part makes up the whole sound. This is not true of most bands, jam or otherwise. The Muzzle of Bees video performance from Burn to Shine
