True. Most bands from that era have at least one dead band member, or one who quit and never came back. The only other bands I can think of from the early/mid '70s that are intact are Rush and ZZ Top.

What's the price of gas where you are?
jff replied to Twisted Acres's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
We had $2.07 on Saturday in Atlanta. Cars were lined up by the dozens at QuickTrip, even though Marathon had the same price right across the street with no line. -
Try learning some cover tunes in a variety of styles. Even if it doesn't break you out of your rut, at least you'll be playing music. Chances are you'll pick up some ideas from these songs that you can use in your own songs.

Aerosmith is one of the only bands from the early '70s that still has the same lineup as their debut album. That's almost unprecedented.

My high school spanish teacher was first cousins with this guy:

Rocks Get Your Wings the self titled debut album Toys All great stuff. The intro to Back in the Saddle is one of the best things ever in rock music.

October Surprise. This this has hoax written all over it.

Thanks. I had never heard of them.

SRC? What's this? Sounds like something I might enjoy.

He wears these now.

"It will include feature the first official release of the instrumental, Igor Stravinsky-influenced orchestral "ballet" version of "Lumpy Gravy" that Zappa recorded in 1967 for Capitol Records but decided to revamp, adding rock musicians and eventually releasing it on MGM/Verve four months after "We're Only in it For the Money" in 1968." That sounds great. I'm not sure why, but I always thought Lumpy Gravy came out before We're Only In It For the Money.

I hope those are on the market in time for my next car purchase.

Most politicians on the right would prefer that the status of abortion rights remain unchanged so that it can be used as a wedge issue in as many election cycles as possible. Same with gay marriage, although that issue has mostly been ignored this year.

Ok, I admit that Captain one was just to get a rise. I love the captain, but if there was an entire album of the magic band doing instrumentals, it'd probably be their most played album in my house. I'm probably busting on Jan Hammer for sins committed post-Mahavishnu.
-
Mahavishnu Orchestra would be so great if it weren't for that damned Jan Hammer.

I feel guilty that that one crossed my mind. I refrained from posting it since I have a soft spot for Ed. Plus, he really did some amazing playing and singing with them, particularly on Flyin' the Flannel, Ragin' and the Totem Pole ep. It's George Hurley, btw. (nevermind, i see that was corrected above)

You seem to be holding Adam Cayton and Ringo to a standard that you don't apply to Henley.

Captain Beefheart is arguably the weakest link in Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band.

He's not a bad drummer, but I feel their music took a noticable dip in quality after Bruford quit (although Rick Wakeman's departure is partially to blame, as well). Alan White seems like an odd choice considering the likes of Mitch Mitchell and Michael Giles were probably available at the time.

Alan White - Yes Oh duh, how could I forget: Henry Rollins - Black Flag

I'd like to see that. It's too bad Connie Kay is no longer around.
