  1. Much of the second record is a pretty major departure from the first record. I feel like they've gotten a little keyboardy for my tastes, and I agree that side 2 has some drag, particularly Last Words (despite having one of the best guitar solos I've heard in a while), which is their longest song, and is not a band composition. I still think they're a really good band with tons of potential, though. If nothing else, the shift in sound from the first record to the second shows that they're willing to be expansive It'll be fun to see what their next record is like.
  2. So, Hospitality has been the opening act for the most recent run of Tweedy shows. I unfortunately haven't been to any of these shows, but I've been a big fan of Hospitality since I heard their first record a couple years ago. I'm interested in what those of you who have been to the shows thought of them. http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2014/09/tweedy_played_b.html Judging by the photos at this link, it looks like they're playing as a trio. Usually they have a fourth member who primarily plays drums. The drummer at these shows is the drummer on their records, but he plays lead gui
  3. I thought he was black. I mist be confusing him with someone else. RIP regardless.
  4. Being that I am now 42, it's hard to believe all of those artists were still in their 40s when those records were released.
  5. I agree. I thought Prarie Wind was super dull, and Living With War was pathetic (even though I agree with the spirit of it.) Neil at one time was probably my favorite artist, but I've checked out and probably won't buy anything else that he releases.
  6. Well I'll be damned. My prediction that it would be Kim Gordon was surprisingly close.
  7. I'm sure. I just thought it was funny to put them on the list without a critique.
  8. $50 says he'll be seen in public with Kim Gordon before the end of September.
  9. I guess he wants to die broke. Frankly, after reading Graham Nash's book, I'm surprised Neil didn't abandon her a long time ago. Abandoning things seems to be his most consistent personality trait.
  10. You've got some fire hydrant water pressure if five seconds out of a shower head will fuill a bucket. It'd take more like a minute in any shower I've ever experienced.
  11. Can that be spread out over 30 days?
  12. I stand by it. Millions of people filling up buckets of fresh water and then dumping it all out is a bad thing. I'm glad ALS is making a killing, though, provided they use the money wisely.
  13. Shocking Blue: Venus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPEhQugz-Ew Nashville Teens: Tobacco Road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGuZY6NVXqU
  14. I'm all for raising funds, but don't come bitching when the water rates go up. It's not an unlimited resource.
  15. Nice shout out from Spencer to Gerry Conway. Nobody ever talks about Gerry Conway, but he's a phenominal drummer with a very unique style. Probably far better known for his work with Cat Stevens than Fairport Convention. It makes me wonder. Perhaps Spencer said generically that he liked the drummer in Fairport Convention, and didn't say a name. If that were the case, he probably would have been referring to Dave Mattacks, another genius drummer.
  16. I know, I've read a lot of Watt's tour diaries over the years. The way he speaks and writes (and sings) has been steadily evolving into something that is more and more difficult to understand. He has a ton of interesting stuff to say but you have to dig through mountains of bizarre jargon to get to his message. It's now to the point where he translates his jargon into several different foreign languages, sometimes in the same sentence.
  17. I might need to re-read this, as it always takes me several paragraphs to acclimate myself to whatever the fucked up language is that Watt has invented for himself.
  18. Is that The Subterranean in Chicago? I saw Polvo there a few years ago and that's what I remember the venue looking like.
  19. Hospitality has been announced as the opening band for most of the Septermber dates. I recommend getting there in time to see them.
  20. Have you read Drumbo's book, Beefheart Throught the Eyes of Magic? It's much longer than Zoot's. Pretty much the same story, but much greater detail. Unfortunately, it's very poorly edited and repetitive at times, and drumbo is nto a good writer. Could have easily been 500 pages instead of 800. Nevertheless, if you can get past the flaws there's some fascninating and frightening stuff in it.
  21. I thought the Steven Tyler book was highly annoying. It's the type of book I can imaging Guy Fieri doing the audio book reading. I love the Aerosmith Walk This Way oral history, though.
