  1. The Jim Carroll Band's 3 albums. the cds are crazy hard to find and those vinyl rips are pretty rough to listen to. fortunately, I've come across vinyl copies of their first 2 albums. some demos, outtakes, etc. would also be lovely.
  2. I truly admire you guys and your close guesses to these jams/ shows. I have always prided myself in knowing way too much about The Doors and their career only lasted 5 years! you guys have 30 years to cover, haha. best of luck!
  3. Head of Femur (Myrtle Beach, SC Feb. 2005)
  4. got the Almanac today as well. also got one maybe a year ago (?) love the full page poster they include with them. does seem strange that they are mailing them out again. they are pretty nice. however, it looks like mine sat in some water and was stepped on a time or two someplace between the GD headquarters and my home.
  5. that spoken word piece, Recitation (A Thousand Kisses Deep,) is one of the most loveliest things I've ever heard. and Mr. Cohen's back-up singers, The Webb Sisters, are the loveliest girls I've ever seen also, the Isle of Wight performance from '70 is a great show as well. the audience was on the verge of rioting, boo'd Kris Kristofferson off stage and was quite unruly, yet did a complete 360 when Leonard and The Army took the stage. that version of Sing Another Song, Boys off of Songs of Love and Hate comes from this show.
  6. that's amazing. I wonder why he and Marianne chose not to stay with one another? I read an interview she gave a few years ago and it seems as though she still thinks of him quite often. personally, I feel as though these little annotations to an artist's life gives their art so much more depth.
  7. I actually watched this scene with my lady friend last night and she was totally captivated by it. although I think she was only interested in the fact that he was tripping. while she doesn't seem to care much for his music, I had Ten New Songs playing really low in my car as we were going out to eat last night and she inquired about it. +1 for the Cohen Army
  8. I was reading last night that Leonard Cohen had started working on an album called Songs For Rebecca after releasing New Skin, but scrapped it when he met up with Phil Spector and they collaborated on what came to be known as DOALM. wonder how that album would have sounded? and yes, an acoustic DOALM would be excellent! your descriptions of Cohen are exactly why I love him so much. he just seems to have such a deep understanding of life. yes, he's struggled with depression but he doesn't let it weigh him down. while many in his position would, and have, succumbed to these emotions, he lets h
  9. both Songs of Leonard Cohen and New Skin won me over upon first listen. his other albums I've listened to have taken me a while to get into. I'm actually listening to Death Of A Ladies' Man now and it really doesn't sound all that bad. kind of reminds me of Ten New Songs. if you can just peel back some of that production/ music, you can get to the good stuff. he really is a charming and sincere man. during a show in Tel Aviv, from the Bird On A Wire doc, Leonard isn't feeling the music and refuses to play as he feels that he's cheating the audience by not giving his all. he walks off stage a
  10. don't feel bad, I missed seeing him on tour recently as well. had only listened to 2 of his albums at the time and liked them a lot but I didn't go. like you, he's now one of my favorites never heard of that '65 documentary. do you remember the name of it? I'm almost finished with Beautiful Losers and think its a great read. that book reminds me a lot of Henry Miller. as for his poetry books, I've been stuck in The Energy of Slaves. can't seem to put that one down. how much of his music have you checked out? just listened to Death of a Ladies' Man last night and may have a little troubl
  11. did a quick search and couldn't find a thread dedicated solely to Mr. Cohen and his vast brilliance. anyway, this year not only saw a new live album, Songs From The Road, but Leonard's 1974 documentary of his 1972 tour entitled, Bird On A Wire was released. on a side note, I have been lucky enough to track down a few of Leonard's out-of-print volumes of poetry. the guy is quite the writer, can't believe I've overlooked him for this long. any other LC fans on the board? anyone catch him and his band on tour recently?
  12. Prolonging the Magic is one of those rare perfect albums to me. everything about it is beautiful. I haven't listened to anything else by the band but may pick up their new one when it is released.
  13. anyone receive their mono box/ Bootleg Series yet and care to share their opinions? in all honesty, I've owned the Witmark demos for years now but never really listened to them. the handful of tracks I listened to at the time seemed dull and uninspired so I put the discs away. but for some reason, I am enjoying this set more than I thought I would (especially disc 2.) btw, Walls of Red Wing was not included in the release despite track listings posted online. as for the mono set. wow. wow. wow. what else can I say? listening to Like A Rolling Stone in mono is a revelation. my only gripe reg
  14. if any of you are Borders Rewards members, they just e-mailed out a coupon for 40% off all CDs in store. granted, they don't have a large selection, but based on the coupon's ad, they'll be stocking both the Bootleg Series vol. 9 and the mono set. with the coupon, you can pick up both items for $87.00 (maybe less if they deduct the coupon off the sale price.)
  15. I'd recommend swinging by the Shakespeare and Co. bookshop which is situated along the Seine and facing toward Notre Dame in Paris. it's actually located in the Latin Quarter which seems to be a nice tourist-y spot as well. there's an amazing fast food restaurant for vegetarians around here and a cool Irish pub where the bartenders dress as Indians. if you're interested in the Parisian nightlife, def. go to Rue de Lappe (right off of Rue de la Roquette in the Bastille.) there's a bar there called 'Some Girls' that plays American music and gets crazy-fun late at night. ps: watch out for g
  16. fyi, 1 more day until the Witmark demos/ mono box!
  17. that line in the letter and this post made my evening
  18. awesome! that version of Girl From The North Country sounds like it could have been performed during one of his '66 gigs due to the change in vocal style. love these little glimpses of a future Dylan that pop out now and again.
  19. the album was released today and if you can't buy it, no one around here has it in stock, then you can stream it for free over at Rolling Stone: As I Call You Down never listened to much Ben Harper, but as a huge Joseph Arthur fan, I find this release to be quite solid.
  20. FB is like alcohol. the majority of people can have a few drinks now and again without incident. however, some tend to get loaded at the drop of a hat and do stupid things. with that being said, I no longer drink and deleted my FB account a few months ago
  21. I sorta miss those old days on the Myspace. it was a great place for fans to keep tabs on their favorite artists and listen to free tunes. it seemed to allow a little more artistic creativity than Facebook does. btw, read on a gossip site that Myspace hosted a massive ad for that new Facebook movie on their main page the other day, haha.
  22. I've been listening to his new album for the past 2 days and its got that Ryan Adams Heartbreaker feel to it at times. hope he gets himself straight and finds peace somewhere down the road.
  23. Chumlee gave an interview where he explained how the meeting was not staged. he also mentioned how Dylan has been an icon for "20 years." I do love Pawn Stars and seeing Dylan on there was neat. I loved his nervous laugh when Chumlee called out for him.
  24. nice article, thanks for sharing it. listening to The Beloved Enemy at the moment. never read many reviews of it online, but it's got to be my favorite Bennett album. I can't listen to Genevera without getting goosebumps.
  25. same here. I just don't have the time/ space on my pc to acquire Wilco shows like I did back in the day. however, I do have the time to check out the rest of that Felt Forum '71 show! still sounding great
