  1. wow, nice show! somehow I've missed this one up to now. thanks for the link.
  2. yes, this is a great album. had mine ripped to the ipod so sold the set, then my ipod crashed a short time later...
  3. caught Mellencamp the summer he was recording this album. he told us that he and the band had just returned from Sun Sound where they laid down some tracks the old fashioned way. sounded appealing at the time but I totally forgot about it until I saw the cd at the mall tonight. the packaging caught my eye, yeah, I'm one of those consumers, so I picked it up and to be honest, I am very impressed with it.
  4. I can hear Jeff whipping out a mean version of I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine at a solo gig one evening. I can also hear the guys doing a rad rendition of The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest. throw in a Nels' solo and then the modern science world will have discovered how to make gold
  5. a new super-group! these guys just announced themselves the other day. here are a couple of links for anyone who wishes to check them out: KCRW Performance Fistful of Mercy
  6. I'm all for some early Dylan, but from what I recall of the Witmark demos, they were not very impressive. before I got into the electric Dylan, I devoured all of his earlier stuff and for some reason, those demos seemed to lack a little edge, at least to my ears. I recall reading something online a while back by someone connected with the Bootleg Series and he mentioned the possibility of putting out the Blonde on Blonde outtakes. man, what I'd give to hear those. from what I gather, there's a ton of stuff from these sessions that we haven't heard.
  7. heard this song at the Whole Foods in Cary the other day. I think it was preceded by Son Volt. a few days later, they were playing Too Far Apart when I was making my rounds. I spend more money when Wilco is playing over store speakers and I'm certain Whole Foods knows this, that's why they always pop-in the A.M. disc when I enter the store
  8. I was fortunate enough to befriend Jay at the time he was working on this album and Whatever Happened I Apologize and he mentioned that he did tend to over-produce at times. from the impression I got from him, he wasn't very happy with The Magnificent Defeat but we both agreed on how amazing The Beloved Enemy is. its amazing to see/ hear how much talent this guy had and every time I think about him, I get bummed out that he'll never be able to share his new creations, be it tunes or art, with us again. Jay had so much left in him and this album is a testament to that.
  9. thanks for sharing that, Matt! I've heard this version a handful of times but this one is clearly superior in terms of quality. its a shame that this song didn't make the cut for Blonde on Blonde.
  10. i found a cassette tape of theirs in my yard back in like '96 and played that sucker all the time. dunno who would've lost a treasure like that. also found an Aerosmith cd in my yard a few months later but didn't care for that.
  11. thanks for the heads up! you can actually capture audio from your speakers and save it to your hard drive using the free program called Audactiy. if you end up trying it and need any help, send me a pm and I'll be more than glad to assist you in anyway I can.
  12. wow, he was serious about Blackhole and Cardinals III/IV coming out! up until the time it leaked, I assumed that Cardinology was Cardinals III/IV but was obviously wrong.
  13. bought my ticket for Raleigh last night. good seats are still available as I ended up with a seat 6 rows from the stage! this will be my first time seeing the guys and I can hardly wait.
  14. thanks for the heads up! gonna run downstairs and set the DVR right...now!
  15. amazing pics! mine should be here (tomorrow?) can't wait!. btw, what's the b-side to the 7"? in all honesty, I haven't listened to too much metal in my life, but if I could acquire a taste for Rock 'N Roll, I can learn to love this album. looking forward to hearing it. thanks again for the pics.
  16. the world has now been without Jay for 1 year
  17. I ended up getting this as well. if I can't get into the tunes, then at least I'll have a cool collector's item. can't really imagine not liking a DRA album being that I love everything he's done. yup, I'm one of those fans.
  18. to be honest, I've only bought a couple of "new" albums this year and I decided to buy 'High Violet' the other night on a whim. I have now listened to this album at least 5 times. its too good! talk about a solid album, this thing is flawless.
  19. was it the Roadhouse Blues video where Morrison can be seen in a limo? not the black and white footage where a girl puts her hand on his trousers but the color footage. I haven't seen the film yet but if you guys can describe some specifics of the clip, I may know what it is. is this it at 3:25? Roadhouse Blues vid
  20. Morrison mentioned Eric Von Stronheim and how he was called "the man you love to hate." he then likened The Doors to that statement and I totally agree with him. was working tonight and missed the film. I did watch an interview (CLICK ME!!1)) with Morrison's father and sister online last night. seemed like Jim's father never understood his son, even after all of those hit songs and all that money. I now have a better understanding of why Jim was the way he was. btw, that clip of his father/ sis featured some unpublished pics of Jim visiting his father's naval ship. funny side note, Jim's fat
  21. heck yeah! wonder who'd end up being a part of it? I'd like to see: Conor Oberst Cat Power Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Robbie Robertson Ryan Adams Paul McCartney Jeff Tweedy Neko Case The Dead Robert Hunter Joseph Arthur Jakob Dylan Steve Earle Neil Young etc...
  22. I can see where you're coming from, for the most part. however, it's a job within itself to manage all of your friends under one website. I won't go into details, but there's a reason I have a group of friends in my personal life and a group in my work life. when the 2 mesh, it's like mixing sodium with water...
  23. in all honesty, I never paid much attention to Brent's solo songs but Blow Away is actually quite good! sorta reminds me of a Bryan Adams song. he's got a nice singing voice which complimented the band quite nicely.
  24. got my set today too! it shipped on 4/20 and came today and that's with the inexpensive shipping! listening to Comment now and the bonus songs. soundin' pretty good edit: forgot to mention that I ordered with Nonesuch instead of Kung Fu.
