  1. I read somewhere that I Corinthians was started around 2000 and he worked on it up until recording it in 2003.
  2. I can't believe I Don't Hurt Anymore is a Martina Mcbride song! first time I heard it, I was very impressed with it and it seems like the perfect Cash song. granted, it doesn't work well in the context of Cash's later years, however, he makes it his own like he did with 99.6% of the songs he covered throughout his American years. and its cool that they revisited Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream. I prefer the live Madison Square Garden '69 version over this one but its still cool. and Cool Water!!! one of my fav. Hank Sr. tunes (even though Hank didn't write it, he still owns it.) edit- h
  3. people are so disgusting. what's funny is that he's pleading for the mental-illness card in court. he was obviously smart enough to go to college for "x" amount of years to become a pediatrician so he could have unlimited access to children. he knew what he was doing all along. and like some of you said, he'll pay his dues in prison (and then some.)
  4. ok, I'm sure there were some Cash threads around but nothing came up in my search. anyways, I was in Borders 2 days ago and noticed a new American release on the promo display! this came outta left field, can't believe I knew nothing about this up until the other day. Cash's cover of Redemption Day is jaw dropping! also, Satisfied Mind features some strong vocals. kinda sounds like that song was recorded around American II/ III. not a big fan of Aloha Oe or the rattling chains in Ain't No Grave. feel like that draws attention away from Cash's vocals. overall, it's a solid album and it's bee
  5. picked up A View of Other Windows today from Barnes and Noble. its a very nice book, put together nicely and features some brilliant shots. after seeing many Cardinals photos online, I really appreciate the quality of the photos in this book. reading Ryan's introduction is a little sad, not to mention Chris' comments on the band, but one can't help but smile while flipping through the pages. one can almost compare it to The Wilco Book, however AVoOW features many more band-centered pics. it captures an era of a band in their prime and for those of you who enjoy the music this band made, this b
  6. for sure. I never got a chance to see the Cardinals live but followed them extensively online and such for a handful of years. hard to believe that one of those guys are no longer with us. doesn't feel right and probably never will. watching that youtube clip for the new book made me tear up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K5Y6AjGnto
  7. looks like Ryan has returned, once again, to the internet. he's been posting on Facebook. could this, indirectly, mean new music?!? edit- this post may or may not contain sarcasm...
  8. Joseph Arthur and Ryan Adams. I actually like them all equally, they're like my children. edit: omg, I forgot about Dylan!!! saw my sig after posting and it reminded me.
  9. used to love Jameson and Coke over ice and a lemon wedge added for good measure. if you're ever in Paris, stop by Kilty's Irish pub in the Bastille and get one. you'll be changed forever.
  10. I can't foresee music fans with $$$ (aka artists we all love and respect) sitting back and letting this place go to someone who's going to turn it into a pub/ tie shop or whatever. then again CBGB's is now a clothing store (which I was in one day and had no idea it used to be CBGB's.) like Dylan says, "not much is sacred."
  11. just got back about an hour ago from seeing Joe in Carrboro! was an excellent show. night before last, Moog hooked him up with a free pedal thingy which sounds like a heavy, semi-distorted bass-like instrument which works totally well with his solo show. he debuted it tonight. also got to meet him and chat for a bit. well, he did most of the talking as I was dumbfoundedly nervous. and, thanks to my tax refund and a settlement check the people in my town are getting because of this : Hazardous Waste Plant Explosion, I was able to purchase one of his paintings he did in a hotel the other night
  12. and this was the only time President Obama has ever been nervous. Dylan's met Presidents and Popes left and right, this must have been like ordering a #3 from McDonald's for him. all kidding aside, that's a nice photo. and I teared up during Dylan's performance when he sang; The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin'. And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'. only Dylan could sing that to the President and get away with it.
  13. I hate to be the guy that always posts youtube vids in threads, but I just came across this earlier in the day and can't stop listening... it's total perfection. I love how Bob grins after certain lines then quickly tries to conceal his amusement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHxJF1y2Auk
  14. that was my 1st Wilco gig! yeah, it was so amazing! I felt bad for Joe that night. he didn't go over well with the audience. I saw one fan approach him after the show for an autograph. I wanted to talk to Joan as she was looking mighty good that night! alas, I didn't know what to say. 2007 seemed to be a highly creative time for Joseph and The Lonely Astronauts. their live shows were just phenomenal. and the endless amounts of material which was coming out was impressive. I've listened to a handful of post '07 Lonely Astronaut shows and something is missing. even before Jen Turner left the
  15. I watched a clip of Can't Exist from this show and it was amazing! I too saw Joe open for Wilco but in Raleigh. we must have caught him a couple of days apart. yeah, the show in Raleigh was horribly dark. I had no idea what looping was at the time and thought he was lip-syncing and wasn't impressed. also, I'm pretty sure he had some drug issues around that time which may have contributed to his show's vibes. with that being said, this tour marks the 1st time Joe has been back to NC since he opened for Wilco back in '04. I'll be seeing him in Carrboro on Valentine's Day! what a perfect way f
  16. this whole vinyl business is tedious but its worth it for that lovely sound. just wish it wasn't so hard trying to track down a stylus compatible with my Emerson. my primary dealer stopped selling them.
  17. has anyone listened to Positively Van Gogh which Dylan and Robertson recorded in a hotel room in Denver back in '66? this recording has eluded me for way too long and I just listened to it tonight for the first time. wow, its some good stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdR1UuhFnN8
  18. I haven't had any problems with my Wilco vinyl. kinda strange that the skips are occurring in the same spots on different copies of the record. I did try and take my W(TA) vinyl off of the turntable a while back before moving the stylus over and it gouged out a portion of Country Disappeared so I do feel your pain. good luck on your replacement copy.
  19. I'm listening to the new album now and it's sounding a lot better than Distortion. I like it. anyone else care to share their thoughts on it? edit- I have no idea why I just quoted myself.
  20. true. I'm a bit biased being that I was 17 when I read it. back in them days, it was all about; Thoreau, The Sex Pistols, and Salinger. that was a deadly combination of heroes. now I wear a tie to work every day, haha.
  21. CITR is like LSD. once you ingest it, you'll never be the same.
  22. my 11th grade US lit class read CITR and it changed a lot of lives, no doubt about it. it's always amazing (and rare) when you see literature have that magnetic pull on young people. on a side note, for those CITR enthusiasts, you may recall the scene in the story where Holden is walking through a mummy's tomb. my teacher had an epiphany one day and realized that the mummy's tomb was an analogy for "mommy's womb." think about that in context of the story and it's totally mind blowing. Salinger was a genius.
  23. I was thinking of the same exact song before reading through these posts. maybe you can contact Wilco's management and they could send you the sheet music for the song?
  24. I'm pretty sure Dylan asked Adams what a "winding wheel" was and Adams said he didn't know. true story.
  25. no, I have heard of it. any film with Patricia Kenneally (Morrison) in it should be taken with a grain of salt. that lady has fabricated 97% of the "time" she spent with Morrison. the Richard Goldstein segment(s) may be interesting to watch. he reviewed The Doors the first time they played New York and interviewed them in 1969 during their PBS appearance. he was definitely the "thinking man's journalist." haha.
