RIP Chris Feinstein aka Spacewolf of the Cardinals
HungryHippo replied to cgoodwin22's topic in Someone Else's Song
read about this late last night and couldn't believe it. still can't believe it now. think I'll play Cobwebs a lot today. I've always loved Chris' bass in that song. RIP Chris. -
What's the consensus on Wilco (The Album)?
HungryHippo replied to Shining Sunbeam's topic in Just A Fan
lmao. I could easily see this happening. -
Wilco has 2 albums in Rolling Stones 100 Greatest of the Decade
HungryHippo replied to Muzzle of Dan's topic in Just A Fan
AGIB may not pack a big enough initial punch for RS to have put it on their list. when I first heard it, I thought it was wayyyyy too quiet and didn't like it at all. I remember flicking through the tracks at Barnes and Noble and finally getting to The Late Greats and being pleased. def. didn't think the album was worth it's price tag so I downloaded it. needless to say, it wasn't until a couple of months later that the album hit me and worked it's crazy magic. since then, I have bought the album twice on CD and twice on vinyl, lol. YHF and SBS seem to be good, safe starting places for Wilco -
this is the way I view the song as well. the bible says that Jesus is going to return to earth at some point, so I've always viewed this song as Christ coming back as a random person and no one really noticing. you know, like that one song, "What if God Was One of Us." but, like religion, this song is open to interpretation. cool to read others' views as they usually end up affecting mine.

if you think the demos the band recorded at Sear Sound and with O'Rourke sound good, wait until you hear the actual album they recorded at Electric Ladyland. crazy stuff.

is that Now and Then album a real Beatles album or is it just made up? it's got a fake copy of Carnival of Lights and a Drive My Car (Love remix) on it. seems a tad fishy.

my old headphones were exactly like these! except they were made by Boost. the sound is wonderful in them. great bass.

What Beatles song would you most like to see Wilco cover??
HungryHippo replied to jdmel's topic in Just A Fan
The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill get Nels to yell out, "all the children sing!" in a high pitched voice. that part of the song always cracks me up for some reason. -
I was thumbing through Frederico Garcia Lorca's "Poet in New York" book the other day and came across this poem; Cow To Luis Lacasa The wounded cow lay down, trees and streams climbing over its horns. Its muzzle bled in the sky. Its muzzle of bees under the slow mustache of slobber. A white cry brought the morning to its feet. Cows, dead and alive, blushing light or honey from the stables, bellowed with half-closed eyes. Tell the roots and that child sharpening his knife: now they can eat cow. Above them, lights and jugulars turn pale Four cloven hoof tremble in the air. Tell t

I've heard these songs for years but didn't know it was the Beatles up until a month or 2 ago. that would be cool if there were more songs like this floating around in the archives. if there's not, maybe Yoko Ono could forward me some unheard Lennon vocal tracks and I can add ukulele and harmonica to them. they'll be big hits and make everyone a lot of money.

I refuse to spend more than $10 on headphones now. every pair I've had always end up giving out. I've been through 4-5 pairs in the past year.

I acquired a proper mono set today after having only been familiar with mp3 versions of select albums. I have almost worn out my stereo cds these past 2 months so this mono is a breath of fresh air. Sgt. Pepper's is def. my favorite. the mix is perfect. this is also the first time I am listening to the Beatles' first 3 records. I haven't bought them on stereo as it seems to be a moot point. God, they are fantastic! before I made it home to listen to them, this bookstore I was at was playing I Saw Her Standing There and I knew that was some sort of sign from above. should have listened to you

I heard this rumor for the first time a day or 2 ago. I've always thought their full names couldn't be listed on records due to contracts, etc. kinda like how Eric Clapton went nameless on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. John Sebastian's name on Morrison Hotel was G. Puglese. however, Jerry Scheff's legit name was used on the L.A. Woman album and he was Elvis' bass player! so who knows?
-
yup! most of the songs on Absolutely Live and Alive She Cried were taken from these 4 shows if that's any indication of how awesome this set is! find it strange that the set's booklet makes no mention of Dallas Taylor. he joined the band on stage for "Goin' to New York."

oh, yes!

Felt Forum is out today! FedEx just dropped my copy off 15 mins. ago and now I'm rocking out to Ship of Fools from the 17th early show. in all seriousness, I'm 100% positive that this set will be the go-to Doors live recording from here on out for casual to hardcore fans. the sound is brilliant and the band is really on their game. "That's New York for ya. The only people who rush the stage are the guys."

A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe
HungryHippo replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
great song! totally agree with you. as for my blasphemous opinion, I still say Blink-182 are the new Beatles just like Ryan Adams is the new Bob Dylan. Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights, 29 = Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde. -
the whole mp3 vs. physical media debate is like a relationship. of course it's cool to talk to your girlfriend over the phone, but it's so much better to talk to them in person. you only get the voice over the phone, but you get the entire package in 3-D (better sound quality, lovely artwork, etc.)

Best box sets/live albums/retrospectives of the decade
HungryHippo replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Johnny Cash's Unearthed is one of my favorite boxed sets of all entire time multiplied by infinity + 4. 2003 was the weirdest year for me. I was in high school when June died and remember breaking the news to the kids in physics. we all signed "RIP JUNE CARTER CASH" in everyone's year books. then Johnny died. my recent ex came home from school and brought me a Cash key chain when she heard the news. I was supposed to see him up in Virginia that summer but opted to see the Doors of the 21st Century instead. so this boxed set really helped out at a weird time. -
that someday was today! went to a flea market and the guy at the record shop had a copy of In the Court and only wanted $9 for it. it's an original pressing with inserts. a copy similar to this is going for $41 on ebay at the moment. there's a little less than 2 hours left on it. I'm curious to see how much it ends up going for... :

pretty cool that you caught the first performance of this song, jdmel. I was lucky enough to be there when the band played it live for the first time in Chapel Hill '06. I thought it was a great sing along, more so than Kingpin, and enjoyed it immensely. I liked Jeff's rocker move that he had "worked on all day" which consisted of him stomping in place like a child throwing a tantrum, lol.
