  1. I just finished listening and was coming to the board with the intentions of calling it a "great winter album." Nice call.
  2. Good idea for a thread.... Can I just answer early Madonna?
  3. To get back on the subject... I just got back from night 3 and that was an absolutely unbelievable show. Last night I went to see Tallest Man on Earth, which is a guy and a guitar, and tonight was THIS. I must say at this point in my life I like the guy and the guitar more, but I definitely enjoy a huge production every now and then.
  4. Cheap plug time - I wrote up a little something about the song "We Can Get Together" on my blog today: http://musicalsupportgroup.blogspot.com/ The lyrics to that song are just great.
  5. Been trying to keep up with mine again - http://musicalsupportgroup.blogspot.com/
  6. Great suggestions - can't believe I never thought of Angelo Badalamenti.
  7. I've had sleep issues my whole life and have always found putting on a atmospheric, calming album at night almost always does the trick. I'm not talking about those albums of white noise you can buy at Bed Bath and Beyond - I mean legit albums. I'm guessing "this album puts me to sleep" isn't what an artist wants to hear about an album, but this isn't a dig at all. I love all of these albums during the day as well. Here are some of mine, what are some of yours? Summer Sun - Yo La Tengo ( ) - Sigur Ros Disintegration - The Cure Hot Rats - Frank Zappa Late For the Sky - Jackson Browne
  8. Definitely one of my favorite bands around right now. Many people feel the same way as you do.
  9. I'll be there all 3 days. Really excited for the lineup this year.
  10. Yes, never really had a problem with that song.
  11. This would take a whole bunch more thought, but here are some I wouldn't change at all: Separation Sunday - The Hold Steady Decoration Day - Drive-By Truckers Abbey Road, Rubber Soul - Beatles (Yes, I like Octopus's Garden) We're Only In It For the Money, Hot Rats - Frank Zappa Pack Up The Cats - Local H OK Computer - Radiohead London Calling - The Clash Yankee, Summerteeth, Being There - Wilco Tim - Replacements New Day Rising - Husker Du Loaded - Velvet Underground Sublime - Sublime ...And Justice For All - Metallica Flood - They Might Be Giants
  12. For John Prine, I'd recommend starting with a "Greatest Hits" collection and then going back and checking out the albums that include the songs that stand out to you. Not that his albums are bad - just helped me get into him a few years back when I saw him mentioned on the board and I had never heard of him either. Way too many great songs on this: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Days-John-Prine-Anthology/dp/B000003329/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271107164&sr=8-10
  13. This band is way too good. I don't really know what else to say.
  14. I was there an it was unbelievable. I just remember standing there in the pouring rain, freezing, and staring on in amazement. A life defining set for me. During "Librarian" when Jim sang "take off those glasses and let down your hair for me," the girl standing in front of me turned around and said "Man, that's just how it is man, cause like, man..." and then fell down. Too bad that didn't make the DVD.
  15. Can you please elaborate on this a bit? Cooley is the man and I'm extremely curious about this. Glad you had a good time at the shows. Can't wait for Chicago on April 9th.
  16. This may be the first Truckers album for me that I prefer the Patterson songs to the Cooley songs. After The Scene Dies and The Wig He Made Her Wear are standouts. The three Cooley songs are good and all, but he has been so consistently genius in the past it's kind of like it is just expected at this point. I wonder who is playing the guitar solo at the end of Daddy Learned To Fly. I've listened to it 10 times in a row now.
  17. Yes, this was some great television. He may not have the 11:35 slot or have a show on NBC, but Kimmel has consistently been the best talk show host since he started in 2003.
  18. That's probably because you're better than us.
  19. 2 Pac Not only would his music be gone, a lot of horrible music that he inspired would be gone.
  20. There are so many horrible rap songs to choose from... if only I had the time.
  21. I'll be ringing it in with Local H at the Double Door. 5th NYE show of theirs I'm going to see. Always a great, great time.
  22. Does anybody know if there is a Pollstar-like database that is searchable for concerts that have already happened? I've appointed myself the impossible task of creating a log of all the concerts I've seen in my life (openers included) and this would help out greatly at this point. Not every band has a website as useful as Wico Base.
  23. I love "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and I'm not ashamed at all. Although I think it may be about date rape...
  24. I actually love that part for some reason, but to each his own. I think "Stairway to Heaven" falls into this category. Many Led Zeppelin songs probably do actually.
