  1. "Mr Phillips never said anything behind nobody's back. Like 'dammit Elvis don't he know, he ain't no Johnny Cash?" -Carl Perkins Caddy "Dead is dead and it ain't no different than walking around if you ain't living Living in fear's just another way of dying before your time" -Shut Up and Get on the Plane
  2. "I don't know why they even bother putting this highway on the map Anybody that's ever been on it knows exactly where they're at"
  3. Very true. The only solution - Cooley needs to write more songs! If any of the Truckers need a solo album, its him. To be fair "you oughta be a silent film star, keep that pretty little trap shut" was mentioned many, many times in the Westerberg thread - and rightfully so.
  4. "He kept a load gun in the closet And another one in the dresser drawer, Just in the case the one in the closet didn't make a big enough hole" "Saw you standing in the hallway, red plastic cup, and one of those big long cigarettes You asked me if I could play you some Dylan I said
  5. I love Westerberg as much as anybody, but with Cooley its about quality, not quantity. Even something as simple as, "Bob's still got an antenna on a pole, 2 channels come in, 2 more come and go. He used to watch the news, but he don't anymore, Ain't none of it new, its the same as before, Claims all any of its any good for is keeping everybody bored, 'till there ain't nobody like Bob anymore" Or "If all you need's a badge to take whats left from those who lost it, a badge ain't no more real than bullets are" Him and Craig Finn are my #1 and #2 song writers right now.
  6. The Paul Westerberg and Elvis Costello threads like this were great, so I figured I'd start one for one of the most underappreciated songwriters around today. DBT currently have 2 great writers, but Cooley is a favorite of mine. I could go on for days, but here are a few favorites: "My daddy didn't pull out, but he never apologized. Rock and Roll means well but it can't help telling young boys lies" "We've been this close to death before but we were just too drunk to notice Guess the price of being sober's being scared out of your mind. When it comes your time to go Ain't no good way t
  7. What a great, great band! And they just got added to Bonnaroo. I'll throw in "Bound for the Floor" by Local H... even though I'm a HUGE Local H fan and very tired of that song. But it was a hit.. and Whoever You Are - Geggy Tah Not an Addict - K's Choice Revved Up - Triplefastaction
  8. The Rolling Stones are nothing more than a very good band. Exile on Main St. has lots of filler. Tool sucks.
  9. ok so I started this thread and it seems to have gotten nowhere. Does anyone have an invite for any music related torrent sites? Wanna check out some new music before I buy (honestly)
  10. I'll be at Lolla too... $60 tickets this time.
  11. there are going to be some tough decisions being made this year... I have a feeling Wilco will play opposite Rage.
  12. Well, I respect the album and enjoy it, but can you imagine Flava Flav on stage now? He's become a parody of himself, if that's possible for someone who wears a full sized clock around his neck.
  13. Well this fest just went from being 'good' to 'great' for me! Too bad they have Public Enemy headlining over Mission of Burma (playing all of Vs) on Friday night. I can't support that. YEEEEEEAAAAA BOYIIIIEEEEE
  14. I agree. It'll be great, no worries from me. One of the best bands making music these days, no doubt about it.
  15. I'm taking advantage of my free month of Amazon Prime (unlimited 2nd day shipping) and decided to buy 2 new releases for each of the next 3 Tuesdays. This week my picks were The Raconteurs (which I'm extremely blown away by) and the Counting Crows, because I've enjoyed their albums in the past. And Adam is a great lyricist if nothing else. In the process of giving it a first listen, and I actually love it so far. Anyone else heard it yet?
  16. The pope just came out... he's Catholic!! Tell your friends.
  17. Pat may look skinny, but he is scrappy. I'm just worried about Mikael getting into foul trouble, I never knew he was such an angry man.
  18. Seems like these threads are always helpful. I've heard some stuff of theirs and liked it, but I'd like to listen to a little more before going to Pitchfork Music Fest. Any suggestions?
  19. I still to this day do not understand how anyone even tries to call the Rolling Stones "the greatest band of all time," but I would have to give the edge here to the Stones over the Who. But in my opinion, its a lot closer than most of you are making it out to be. By the way... off subject, but who made it blasfomous to say that Exile has plenty of filler on it? I prefer basically any other album from this period to Exile. It would have been an amazing 8-10 song album, but as it stands, I can't make it through the whole thing on a single listen.
  20. I think Purgatory Line is amazing. I'll admit, its not very DBT-like, but an amazing song is still an amazing song.
  21. good night everyone! great show
  22. It was probably those guys yelling for California Stars. Got their muddy paws on the equipment.
