  1. Still get chills when I hear this - "In the park drinking dark bacardi Thinking things are funny when they really ain't that funny. The kids on the corner they keep getting stung. The color of our teeth matches the color of our tongues. In the back bay fens getting gentle. Up against the fence with some guy who looks like mickey mantle. Dirty minds keep coming thru the mud. The color of their eyes matches the color of our blood."
  2. I started a thread similar to this about Mike Cooley and got a couple people to bite, so why not do the same for his touring buddy over the next month or so? What are your favorite Craig Finn lines? In my opinion this guy is the best lyricist in the world right now. "Every line he ever wrote is amazing," is a correct answer, but it won't be very helpful. I'll start with a simple but great one... "Tramps like us... and we like tramps" A simple line, but genius considering a critic can't get through writing 5 sentences about the band without bringing up Springsteen's name twice.
  3. Couldn't think of a better current one-two punch - I'll be seeing the Chicago show next week with Hold Steady closing.
  4. The Bends and OK Computer are absolutely incredible. I agree about them being overrated ever since. That being said - I've always been a lyrics man myself.
  5. I have to say ganstar rap without a doubt. Some of that stuff takes absolutely no talent whatsoever. At least Nickelback/Hinder had to attempt to learn how to play instruments.
  6. I have one after reading the rest... Wilco fans listen to good music.
  7. It's a tie between Hold Steady's "Stay Positive" and the Truckers' "Brighter Than Creations Dark".... so I'll just say Man Man's Rabbits Habits
  8. Just off the top of my head: Here Comes The Zoo - Local H We Belong to the Staggering Evening - Ike Reily Assassination Happiness Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch - Our Lady Peace Factory Showroom - They Might Be Giants (first album that got me into them, not their best, but not as bad as its made out to be) Libido Speedway - Orbit
  9. just got home from Lollapalooza. I was the only one in a group of 20 who wanted to see Wilco over Rage, so I sucked it up and went to see Rage (I already saw Wilco 8 times this year - and I don't mind Rage) The sound was horrible, the show was stopped at least 3 times because people were getting hurt, and we got lectured by Zach de la Rocha about how we all need to love each other - right before he sang "Bullet in the Head" and encouraged us to burn down buildings. Moral of the story... NEVER miss Wilco. Especially when they are in walking distance. But all in all, it's been a great w
  10. Not to offend any of his fans, but I seriously think all of the positive reviews of Lil' Wayne albums are some sort of psychological experiment to see if people are persuaded by critics. I'll admit I'm not the biggest rap fan, but I like plenty of it and I consider him to be less-than-average-at-best. I have not heard a Lil' Wayne song and had any desire to listen to it again.
  11. This would be way, way too hard for me. I'm just going to sit back and see what happens.
  12. just curious since I'm at work and can't listen until I get home - how are the lyrics? The reason I got into Bright Eyes in the first place was the lyrics, and was only impressed with 3 or 4 songs lyrically on the last album.
  13. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Whatever you do, don't miss the Hold Steady. Besides them, I'll be checking out: Spoon, Dinosaur Jr. Spiritualized, Vampire Weekend, Jay Reatard (reminds me of Husker Du live), Boris, Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, M Ward, Les Savy Fav, King Khan... and then probably check out some bands I'm unfamiliar with. Anyone ever see Jarvis Cocker live? Any chance of some Pulp songs?
  14. Anytime Frank Zappa grabbed a guitar/baton and nobody was singing.
  15. Bought the reissue. Such a great album. Only the Good Die Young may be one of my favorite songs ever, and Italian Restaurant isn't far behind.
  16. Anyone have any invites for stmusic? I need some new old music.
  17. I'm sure there is something somewhere else on the board about this... but MMJ at Bonnaroo this year was a life changing experience. I've never won the lottery or watched my own child being born, but I honestly doubt it's possible to be any happier than I was during "One Big Holiday"
  18. 100% agree. Since I'm about to quit my job and lose my health care, I guess its not too morbid at the time.
  19. wow, just listened through a couple of times, and I think its amazing. Craig is such an amazing writer.
  20. I haven't been so lucky. Any invites available?
