I get they can be polarizing...I would however recommend their first two albums (Self Titled and Lincoln) for a newbie. Drum machines, accordian and quirky lyrics. I have never heard another band that sounded like them from 1983 til 1987. If you want more of a full band sound John Henry is great and it is a more developed sound. If you are into educational music they have a few albums with really smart lyrics geared toards the kids but still worth a listen.

ahh nice shoutout! Glad you had fun...you peps on the Southern Hemisphere deserve some good live shows once in awhile even though you are so damn far away! Rock on!

Del Amitri Twisted! Good album.. love "Start with Me" and "Tell Her This! Del is very underrated. Justin Currie is a great pop song writter

Best paid fanclub was REM. for $10 got a holiday card, free vinyl/cd single of unreleased stuff an prioirty tickets. I scored a pair in the first row, fourth row, and eight row the three times I took advantage and too boot the tickets had less fees then TM!

ironic because tickets this summer for BNL are $100. TMBG tickets never pass $35ish

I'm going to add Elliott Smith too. Maybe he wasn't the most technical but you can tell an Elliott song by his style...his tone really set the songs
