  1. Highly doubt it —definitely not with their full band — but you never know...
  2. A few other nerdy show notes that I remembered after shaking out the cobwebs this morning: *During the intro to Monday, Nels put a couple of "Ban Fracking Now" stickers on himself (and later one on his guitar). Obviously it's a cause that he feels strongly about — along with his wife and a lot of their friends — so that was cool to see. *Jeff broke a string on Laminated Cat from, er, vigorous strumming. He used to break strings all the time, but I can't remember the last time he did it. *As I think I noted a few days ago, it seems like they've very subtly rearranged Arline To Heaven a bit so
  3. Yes, Nels has been sitting in with Lee's band regularly on this run thus far.
  4. In case anybody cares, here was the Lee Ranaldo Band setlist from last night (I'm really digging their set the more I see it and get to know the songs): Waiting On A Dream Angles Off The Wall Xtina As I Knew Her (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Tomorrow Never Comes (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Shouts (w/Nels Cline on lap steel) Hammer Blows (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Thank You For Sending Me An Angel [Talking Heads] (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar)> Fire Island (Phases) (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar)
  5. Told someone I would get this up tonight, so anyway... A fun little gig after the festivities at Prospect Park earlier in the evening. The Manderley Bar turned out to be a neat little space that was sort of like a little cabaret, with small cocktail tables clustered around a tiny stage. This was the AD quartet -- in other words, their regular band with Greg "G. Wiz" Wieczorek on drums and the esteemed James Haggerty on bass (but minus John Pirrucello on guitar.) As you might expect, quite a few musicians were in attendance; among them: Liam Finn and Eliza-Jane Barnes and Kraig Johnson. Nel
  6. Well, Brooklyn celebrated (and was celebrated)... By my count, the band came on at 8:16 and finished a couple minutes past curfew at 10:33. A relatively quiet opening third of the show eventually developed into a fun, loose and rockin' second half. The complete setlist, as played, for Night 2 at Prospect Park (a *much* lovelier night weather-wise, btw, than Night 1): I Might Misunderstood Side With The Seeds Pot Kettle Black Hummingbird Black Moon Spiders (Kidsmoke) (acoustic arrangement) Impossible Germany Born Alone> Wishful Thinking Laminated Cat (aka Not For The Season) (electric
  7. Great energy tonight, as usual at the Charlottesville — er...um...nTelos Wireless — Pavilion, and the weather gods smiled on us (except for the crazy humidity). The band responded in kind with an old-fashioned sweaty rock 'n roll show. Must mention one comment Jeff made in the encore when he complimented the Charlottesville crowd: "If this was the 70's," Jeff said in part, "we would overdub you and put you on our live album." Some more comments hopefully to follow at some point, but for now, here was the complete setlist, as played: Poor Places> Art Of Almost I Might At Least That's
  8. Another very muggy, but very fun evening! As promised, the band played mostly songs they hadn't done the previous night so that those who attended both shows got a pretty good sampling of the current state of the band over the two gigs. I'm sure someone will break it down by album or by figure out the stats on how many different songs were played over the two nights or whatever people do, but suffice it to say that if you're anything more than a casual fan — and chances are if you're reading this, you probably are — and are able to, it's always worth it to get to both nights. Personally,
  9. Figured I'd also post the Lee Ranaldo Band setlist, in case anybody cared: Angles Off The Wall Hammer Blows (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Xtina As I Knew Her (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Shouts (w/Nels Cline on lap steel) Fire Island (Phases) (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar) Nels had a pretty stellar night, IMHO. In addition to helping Lee's band flesh out its sound, he really shone on the Ashes and Impossible Germany solos. After IG, Jeff said something like, "Nels Cline, everybody. ... It's funny, during Lee Ranaldo's set, there was a guy playing with them that looked just like
  10. I heard curfew was at 10:55 p.m. tonight and that's exactly when Wilco finished. Not sure why they would change anything for Night 2. Wolf Trap is sort of a weird place...pretty strictly run. Perhaps a local can elaborate more. But the schedule was pretty tightly adhered to, it seemed to me (and I seem to remember that from last time as well). Maybe it has to do with being a national park (i.e. under federal supervision)? Anyway, the set times were more or less as stated above: Lee Ranaldo Band 8:00-8:30 and Wilco 8:55-10:55. FYI Nels came out and played with Lee and his band for most of the
  11. Here was the complete setlist, as played, for Night 1 at Wolf Trap: Dawned On Me War On War I Might Ashes Of American Flags ("...nine dollars and sixty-three cents...") One Sunday Morning> Poor Places> Art Of Almost Handshake Drugs Impossible Germany Born Alone Too Far Apart I'm Always In Love Via Chicago Hate It Here Whole Love Box Full Of Letters Heavy Metal Drummer> I'm The Man Who Loves You A Shot in the Arm --------------------------------- California Stars The Late Greats Hoodoo Voodoo (w/ bass/guitar/keyboard tech Josh on cowbell)
  12. U of K is in Lexington, fwiw. And there was no encore. The Wilco crew definitely wasn't getting the stage ready for more music. In fact, we decided that the band probably wasn't coming back out when Jeff's pedalboard was taken away.
  13. Fwiw, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists did a cool cover of one of their songs a few years back --
  14. Geez, that's some really bad luck! Glad to hear that everyone walked away without any serious injuries...
  15. Really missed seeing everyone, but it sounds like it was a splendid evening. Say You Miss Me sounded great on the radio, so whoever was responsible for that inclusion on the setlist...thanks. Too bad about Red-Eyed/I Got You and especially Dreamer, but after all, there were fireworks to set off! And speaking of, were they Wilco-themed, as I thought was supposed to be the case? And if so, what made them so? I kept picturing, like, each of the band members' faces emerging in colored lights or various Wilco "logos" or something... Re: Bird's "new" bass player, his name is Alan Hampton and i
  16. Yeah, that sucks. Typical corporate radio. Perhaps I'm ignorant, but what difference does it make to just open up the feed to all regardless of location?
  17. Sam, I like that you've become an expert Twitter user! ;-)
  18. I figured they must have cut a decent chunk of the second encore, almost certainly due to time reasons. Seemed a little abrupt just to do Dreamer and then be done. I'll bet the Adler had an 11 p.m. curfew. As far as some of the banter I alluded to earlier, as usual Jeff had a few choice, er, "sound bites." The first came after Country Disappeared when a couple of (I think) women in the front row were talking a little bit too loudly during that relatively quiet number, to the point where you could actually see Jeff get distracted mid-song. Jeff called them out afterward, semi-jokingly telling
  19. For anyone interested in the opening set by Kelly Hogan and her band, here's what they played: We Can't Have Nice Things [Jack Pendarvis/Andrew Bird] I Like To Keep Myself In Pain [Robyn Hitchcock] Daddy's Little Girl [M. Ward] Sleeper Awake [John Wesley Harding] Plant White Roses [The Magnetic Fields] No True Love [The Dixie Cups] Ways Of This World [Vic Chesnutt] Golden Haunted [Jon Langford] Sing Your Tune [Chris Scruggs] It was a little surprising and disappointing, to me anyway, that we didn't get some sort of Wilco/Hogan collaboration on Open Mind (which she has been performing live
  20. Thankfully there were no apparent fights at the Adler this time around, unlike the show there five years ago when some fisticuffs on Nels' side of the stage cast a little bit of a dark cloud over the gig. Wilco's 2012 performance, it can be said, proved to be just a solid all-around show, one that even featured a couple of songs from Wilco (The Album) (!)...so I guess we can let the recent discussion of the band not playing anything off that record go for now. Jeff had some choice banter during the show that I'm too tired to detail now, but will mention later if someone else doesn't do it f
  21. Didn't necessarily start off that way, but what a wacky, awesome setlist for tonight's show! If I'm not mistaken, this was the first indoor show in a little while so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the rarities. Or perhaps it had more to do with the fact that the band seems to play Rochester relatively frequently and, as Jeff said, was trying to play some songs it hadn't done here before. Jeff asked the crowd midway through the main set, "Do we come here more than any other band?" Someone yelled out, "Bob Dylan." To which Jeff replied, "Well, we're probably at least in the top
  22. Really? I never knew that Tom Skilling and "LouieB" were one and the same!
  23. An absolutely gorgeous night for an early evening rock show in far-off — well, for me — Duluth. I clocked the show at just over two hours (2:04, to be exact). Of note...Jeff had some funny banter about a fence separating the front section from the rest of the crowd. It was called a "VIP section" in the front, but it really was just people who had bought reserved seats as opposed to, I guess, the GA lawn. The reserved seats hardly mattered anyway, as people just filled the front section up to the rail as if it were a GA show. No one seemed to mind. What else? I'm sure there will be ample Yo
