  1. Euclid Records of St. Louis opened up a New Orleans branch not too long ago and I hear it's great. Not downtown in the Quarter, but I can almost guarantee it's worth a cab ride or walk. I need to get there myself one of these days...
  2. Haha! Well, in the case of that other show we were discussing, you sort of do! I'll be very interested to hear your take on that if and when you check it out...
  3. I always dig the "vibe" at the Block Party, even if it has gotten ginormous over the years. Despite the relative hordes, it's still an event where artists can mostly feel free to bring their families and roam around and have a nice time. Kind of reminds me of Solid Sound in that sense (sans dunk tank, of course). Or perhaps Solid Sound kind of reminds me of the Block Party. Either way, hope both can stay mostly the way they are -- or have been --despite attracting (or potentially attracting) way more people than when they first started. And that we can continue slingin' T-shirts and such..
  4. Unfortunately, it appears as if setlist.fm is missing at least one of the Blue Note club shows. As I mentioned to you last night, I know they played there on 9/14/04 because it was my first time to Columbia and that venue. Calexico opened. It was the kickoff of the fall tour for A Ghost Is Born, and it was a really great show! Check out the setlist on Wilcobase if you don't believe me, but I'll just say that A Magazine Called Sunset and Candyfloss were played in the main set and the last encore was New Madrid and The Lonely 1. I don't use setlist.fm all that often as a resource because I don
  5. OK, for M. Christine (and anyone else that might care), here was Jonathan Richman's set from last night — at least as best as I could decipher it: No One Was Like Vermeer Let Her Go Into The Darkness We Had A Fight Last Night La Festa Galactica? (Italian party song)> Ja La? (Hebrew and Arabic party song)> La Fiesta Es Para Todos (Spanish party song) I Was Dancing in the Lesbian Bar My Affected Accent Her Mystery Not Of High Heels And Eye Shadow O Moon, Queen Of Night On Earth Keith Richards (w/"fast" reprise) Regarding the foreign language interludes, Richman would preface each by sa
  6. Well, it's later so I suppose I'll chime in with at least a few comments about last night's very enjoyable outdoor show. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) it was the third time Wilco has played on the street in front of the Blue Note club and I've always found it to be, for the most part, one of the most easygoing and pleasant crowds at any outdoor gig I've seen. At least toward the front, most folks seemed happy and excited to be able to see Wilco in the relatively intimate confines of 9th Street. Setlist-wise, we got both Missouri staples — New Madrid and Casino Queen — so that was fun
  7. More details later, but for now here was the complete setlist as played: Misunderstood Art Of Almost I Might Bull Black Nova At Least That's What You Said Spiders (Kidsmoke) (acoustic arrangement) Impossible Germany Born Alone> Laminated Cat (aka Not For The Season) (electric arrangement) One Wing New Madrid Handshake Drugs Hummingbird Whole Love Box Full Of Letters I'm Always In Love Heavy Metal Drummer> I'm The Man Who Loves You Dawned On Me A Shot in the Arm ------------------------------- Via Chicago Passenger Side Christ For President Candyfloss Casino Queen> Outtasite (Outta M
  8. I'm pretty sure Mike's first real show as a band member was 7/19/02 at the Murat Egyptian Room in Indianapolis. I think he told me so himself once. That fits in with your general timetable.
  9. Looks like the band (as well as The Shins and Michael Franti & Spearhead) is slated to play in Vail, Colo., sometime the week of Dec. 10-16 as part of the Vail Snow Daze.
  10. Wow, he lived a LONG time...:-/ What would that be? Like, a millennium?
  11. If I'm not mistaken, this was the lone non-festival date on this little Euro run. A 23-song set at a fest wouldn't just not be shabby, but would be longer than most outright shows the band played prior to the last four or five years.
  12. Thanks for the report (and excellent setlist "style," might I add)! This was the one show on this little European run that I was sad to have to miss. Glad to hear it was a fun one. I totally get why they play so many festivals, of course (and I would imagine they'd have to pay them very well to get them to do three festivals in three different countries in three days ... basically twice, no less) but it's of course almost always best to see the band in a smallish indoor venue. Hopefully we'll hear a little bit from samuel70, who I believe was also in attendance... Sunken Treasure + Hands
  13. Caught the end of Wilco's set. Man, Dawned, Shot (good night! just kidding.) and Hummingbird were the last four songs. I was amused by the brief interview snippets of festgoers they were airing between performances. Looks like they were asking people who they were excited to see at the fest and I was amused by how many responses included Florence and the Machine. Also, the bit with one of the members of, I think, Oberhofer was funny; in short, he was clearly mistaken for one of the fest attendees but he was like, "No, we played!"
  14. This is surely of interest to no one, but I just had a chance to watch the Fallon performance of Laminated Cat and just thought it was funny that Jeff had a slight lyric flub (he never actually sang "...it's not for the season" but actually sang "...they're not worth reading" twice.) He probably didn't even realize it...or if he did, never let on the way he sometimes does live when he realizes he's transposed a lyric.
  15. Not that this matters in terms of the music, but wasn't she dating Andy Samberg a while back? Or maybe she still is? I don't really follow the celeb news too closely.
  16. I'll let someone else elaborate more on all of the great (and, er, not so great) banter toward the end of the show following what shall go down in Wilco lore as "The Great Moth Incident." But suffice it to say that the band seems ready for a little break before their next jaunt, delivering a loose, fun performance to cap off this leg. Also of note, Jeff sat in with Lee Ranaldo's band for a cool rendition of Neil Young's "Walk On" to close out their opening set. A nice way to finish their two weeks or so of opening for Wilco. Glenn also sat in with Lee's band on a song for the second night
  17. I couldn't make this one, unfortunately, so I won't be much help on the details. But it looks like a pretty stellar gig! And thanks for following the "correct" titling convention when you started the thread...
  18. No problem. Edited the earlier post slightly to include Sarah Lee and Johnny's participation on the last two songs, which somehow got cut off when I hit send before...
  19. Also wanted to post this, but wasn't sure where to put it so I'll just put it here... Kudos to Mr. Sansone (and Mr. Stirratt, to just a slightly lesser extent since he didn't sit in with the Ranaldo band) for being the proverbial hardest-working men in show biz last night. After Wilco finished their show at 11:26 p.m., those two promptly jetted over to the nearby Arch Street Tavern (joined by the stalwart Autumn Defense rhythm section of G. Wiz and Haggs) and were sitting in with the Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion band by midnight. Then the Autumn D quartet snuck in a brief but fun m
  20. Glad you posted about Lee. As I've mentioned before, I've been enjoying his sets a lot. Having Nels and Pat sit in helps, of course, but I'm really digging these songs the more I hear them. Obviously he was always a bit of a third wheel in the Sonic Youth universe — though I'm sure some of their hardcore fans would probably beg to differ — but I always liked the few songs he got to sing in a given show. As for these opening sets with Wilco, most of the songs have been the same from night to night but that's only natural when you only have one album to draw from and you have guests sitting in
