caliber66
Anyone know when was the last time anyone pitched a ten-inning complete game?

Lammycat
Anyone know when was the last time anyone pitched a ten-inning complete game?I know Mark Mulder pitched one against Clemens (with Houston) a couple years ago (2005 I think). It was a shutout, too.
rareair
A good use of the closer in a situation cited earlier in this thread, though there are still plenty of managers who would not have made the move to put Papelbon in to clean out the heavy hitters in the 8th. would they have left papelbon in for the 9th if it were still 4-1? Lammycat
would they have left papelbon in for the 9th if it were still 4-1?I was wondering that too, and I'd have to guess "yes" as he got Vlad and Anderson out with only 6 pitches.
rareair
i agree. but also think if the red sox continue with the papelbon in the 8th trend, they will eventually limit his 9th innings at times even if it costs him saves.
Lammycat
I certainly don't anticipate it becoming a trend. He hadn't pitched since Sunday or Monday and he was the best guy for the situation in the 8th tonight.

bobbob1313
The Bucc-os need a uniform intervention. Barry Bonds punished them for those heinous unis. Nice game by the Fish tonight! Dontrelle has the 2nd best winning percentage all time in April, bested only by Babe Ruth. Nice.
Lammycat
Martin Scutaro with a nice at-bat against Fruitbat in the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, jacks a three-run homer to win it. That was an exciting at-bat to watch.

bobbob1313
. If you read that sentence again: 'The Yankees exiled Alfonso Soriano, a homegrown star, to get him, and he was tagged a soft pretender last year, not a true Yankee" you will note that "he was tagged" is a bit of a confusing, dangling modifier type deal, since one could conclude that the antecedent of "he" is Soriano. I would suggest this rewrite: "In a stunningly brilliant coup by GM Brian Cashman, the Yankees traded Alfonso Soriano, an overrated star, and a bunch of other garbage, and landed a sure Hall of Famer in Alex Rodriguez. But some Yankee fans did not take to Rodriguez right away, because their brains are stupid, and Rodriguez was soon tagged "not a true Yankee," which is a four-word piece of gibberish used exclusively by asshole-morons." FJM.
Sir Stewart
I wouldn't have concluded that about that sentence. I think it's pretty clear that A-Rod is the subject. And that all Yankees are worse than Nazis.

bobbob1313
No you don't. Julio is worse than any pitcher you've ever seen in your entire life. He's like Bad News Bears bad. He's fucked up 2 fielding plays today, to go with 4 ER in 1+ inning pitched so far. His fat ass almost ran Cabrera over in the field, and he just gave up a 2 run double to Carlos Lee. Dump this bum before he gets beat up by his teammates. I'm almost starting to feel bad for him. His teammates have to hate him. I'm starting to think he didn't want to come here and is just trying to get dumped. Nobody is this hilariously bad. Julio's ERA is only 15.88. That honestly seems low.
