W(TF)
i really hate it when it comes up on YHF, every other note of which i love with all my heart. i'd much rather listen to the drone on "Less Than You Think." -justin I agree that HMD doesn't fit the mood of YHF very well. But on the other hand, it shows that Jeff has a sense of humor, and maybe that little inside joke is all that got him through that turbulent period of time. I don't attach much sentimental value to the song, but 'to each his own'. It certainly could never "ruin" YHF for me. And the synths on "stooooned" are pretty cool too. AND, I think what made me fall REALLY in love with HMD is the live version where Jeff threw out like 10 or so other bands instead of just Kiss i.e. Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo...I don't recall which show exactly, as my ex has it, but it was SOOO GREAT!!! Maddie Hope
For me I'm not crazy about "Shot In The Arm"... but I do like the last line... "what you once were isn't what you wanta be anymore" Not a bad tune, lots of folks really like it... Personally, I think it's cuz' the song reminds me of a time I was in, what I called "the nuthouse" rehab if you wish, but them damn "shots in the arm" were a bitch! but I'm all better now... I really like most all songs that JT/Wilco play, some lots more than others, but I guess I can see the good in them all...
phish907
Those are some pretty HARSH words there, Justin, dontcha think?!? EDIT: Is there something WRONG with writing a song just for FUN?!? Does every set of lyrics have to have some deep, meaning behind them to make it worthy of listening?!? I don't think every song has to have some deep meaning, I love "I'm A Wheel" I personally think HMD sucks. From the beginning especially with the drum thing it just sounds fake and manufactured. The lyrics I can sorta relate to I grew up unfortunately with the Heavy Metal scene. In concert I always find a reason to excuse myself for a drink or the bathroom when this one is played. Wilco Worshipper
you people obviously don't get "I'm A Wheel" Whether I GET IT or not was NOT the point...I meant the thumbs up for digging HMD for it's "dumb lyrics" as Justin so NICELY pointed out to us yesterday And, for the record, I of the "you people" DO GET IT, sir!!! I know I'm a Wheel is a political song, just not what I consider a "deep" thinking song. But A GREAT song none the less, I just dislike HMD.
jhh4321
I'm just completely floored at Pieholden Suite showing up what two or three times even seriously, that is one of the best wilco songs ever written imo

luke79
Hate It Here is the only song that irritates me, and I find gratingly annoying. The lyrics are inane. I'm tempted to go to the bathroom during it if it's played either night in Denver.
quarter23cd
"Via Chicago" would be really great if, when played live, Jeff inserted the name of the city they were playing in, in place of just saying Chicago. You can never go wrong with the audience-pandering city shout-out. That's just gold.

W(TF)
"Casino Queen" Aw c'mon...my lord, you're mean. I Must Be High and Casino Queen must be one of the best 1-2 punch album openers - not to mention band debuts - ever!! Casino Queen may be a bit zz top, but it's a great bar song...even with the corny gimmicks.
you ever seen a ghost?
>Those are some pretty HARSH words there, Justin, dontcha think?!? it did hurt to type them, but i've thought the exact same thing though, so i didn't want to cheat myself. in regard to a song not having to be deep to be good: of course i agree. for example, i love "I'm A Wheel," but HMD man...just can't stand that one. -justin

random painted highway
Via Chicago. Musically a limp noodle (no, live pyrotechnics don't alleviate it), and if SBS sometimes ventures into the extreme of content banalities, this song ventures into the extreme of cheer-the-fuck-up.
