best 5 consecutive albums?

Recommended Posts

Man ... four consecutive is way easier than 5. Number 5 in the string knocked out PJ Harvey, Frank Zappa, Sonic Youth and Eric Dolphy.

Giant Steps

The Avant-Garde

My Favorite Things

Coltrane Plays The Blues

Coltrane's Sound

The Flaming Lips say "how 'bout us, ya rubes!?"

Transmissions From the Satellite Heart

Clouds Taste Metallic

Zaireeka

The Soft Bulletin

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

-Two albums of top-notch, deliriously weird Okie garage psychedelia

-Perhaps the most aurally ambitious rock album of all time sandwiched in the middle

-A near-flawless symphonic-pop rumination on yearning, mortality, and ummm... insects

-Top it all off with a remarkably warm-sounding electronic rock album that was probably recorded in the future on a planet designed by Roger Dean and brought back by people in metallic jumpsuits.

Frank Zappa.

Yeah, I tried making a Zappa one, but that damn Cruisin' With Ruben and the Jets album ruined it.

I could probably go with these, though, assuming you consider Zappa and the Mothers of Invention one entity (I know some people who don't):

Uncle Meat

Hot Rats

Burnt Weeny Sandwich

Weasles Ripped My Flesh

Chunga's Revenge

Doesn't Magical Mystery Tour count? And, wouldn't Let It Be come before Abbey Road, since it was recorded first? I always consider Abbey Road to be their last album. Maybe I am just assbackwards. ;)

MMT was recorded (and released in England) as an EP. In America they just through on some singles from that era.

And I was just going by release date. Obviously The End --> Her Majesty is The Beatles grand farewell.

To those who mentionned the Beatles: please delete Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be from the list.

What's wrong with Let It Be? It's always been one of my favorites.

Why? Because they are both really good albums?

Hell, I would say the Beatles didn't release one single bad album, so you could list all 13 of their studio releases and I'd have no problem with it.

Even though Magical Mystery Tour was officially an EP, the other problem with the Beatles list was that Yellow Submarine was an official album, with only a couple of new left-over songs, and a bunch of George Martin instrumentals on side 2.

UK:

Beatles For Sale

Help!

Rubber Soul

Revolver

Sgt. Pepper

US:

Rubber Soul

Yesterday and Today

Revolver

Sgt. Pepper

Magical Mystery Tour
