Davenport, IA setlist

Recommended Posts

I am totally blown away by how good that concert was in Iowa. The setlist was amazing! I brought my camera and totally forgot about it until the last song (spiders) and by the time i remembered it was getting over. I can't believe they played walkin', my favorite song off of the new album! All and all the concert blew my mind and i'm sure they will blow yours this summer if you see them. I'm glad i got to see their first American show of the new album, too. :thumbup

I drove from Kenosha, WI to see them, did anyone else drive 5 hours or further?

Yep...I drove from Omaha, NE....over 5 hour drive. Front row center.....I was so close to Jeff that I felt uncomfortable. I'll post pics soon.

"I don't think Wilco would have punished the whole audience unless the fight was escalating to the point where innocent bystander were at risk."

The fight broke out just behind me, and it did escalate pretty dramatically...to the point that the instigator was punching his female companion in the face. WAY too much alcohol consumption and too little security reaction/presence. Wonder if we'll see more security on the remainder of the tour...

Phenomenal show regardless. Being that close to Nels and being able to truly appreciate the nuances in his style was more than I can express with words. Looking forward to Indy tomorrow night... :D

It was I'm a Wheel.

And yes, I was the "cheater."

Yeah, I'm glad I got to listen to your fucking cellphone beeping as you text-messaged everyone you knew throughout most of Low's set. I'm not mad at ya, but next time, figure out how to turn off the sound when you do that. It was not cool. Oh, and Jeff thought you were annoying. Maybe a couple less beers next time?

Not to shit all over the new guy, cuz it's nice to have more Wilco fans here on the board, I agree with everything you said. But it seems that A LOT of people were over-the-line drunk last night (my friend was one of them, and I appologize for that to everyone around us in the pit). That and the fight took a lot of fun away from the show....but the kicker is, except for the fight, I wouldn't change anything about last night.

First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to Bri and Christine (I think?) for the upgrade in seats. :thumbup

Staying on VC for a moment, it was nice to meet Donna and talk to her after the show. She had a front row seat for the fight, so I'm interested to hear what she can add to what she told me last night about the fight. I did see Yvonne, but I didn't say hi, but I do remember you from the Madison show (the Converse shoes and the dress is a sweet look). I know I saw more of you, but didn't say hi....I'm sorry about that. With my intoxxxxicated friend and my natural shyness, I didn't really put an effort into meeting new people. For those of you that I saw and missed, I hope to see you again very soon, and hope to talk to you as well. In case you saw me and didn't know it, I was wearing a lime green button-up shirt and had spikey hair.

What has been said about Low so far is absolutely correct, so I won't repeat everything.

A Shot in the Arm is such a perfect opener. It set the tone for the whole night, with the energy and the mood of the band. The new songs sounds SO SO SO good live--they add to their already impressive live catalogue. The biggest surprise of the night was Kamera. Completely blown away by this one. The drum build-up in Via Chicago was impressive and I felt it all the way in my gut....truly remarkable. The whole main set was cohesive, full of energy, and you could see how happy the guys were to be playing close to home, much less in the US for the first time in a while. Spiders always blows me away live, and the fake ending always kicks you in the face when they start back up again. Here's what the setlist had planned for the encores:

Late Greats

I'm Always in Love*

Poor Places*

Spiders

----------------------

Hate it Here

Heavy Metal Drummer*

What Light*

I'm a Wheel*

* not played

I LOVE the Poor Places>Spiders transition--how the beat of Spiders rises out of the ashes of Poor Places, so I'm kinda bummed not to have heard that. And I've never heard I'm Always in Love live, so that would have been a treat. But, oh well, no big deal I guess. What surprised me the most about this show were the amount of kids there. Jeff commented about it about midway through the set too. There was a 10 year old up against the stage, and two 6 or 7 year olds standing on my and my friend's seat (I didn't realize a little kid was behind me, and I felt kinda bad because I was dancing a lot and kept bumping into something behind me all show, so when I saw it was a little girl, I appologized, but she said "It's OK" with a huge smile...totally made my night even better). No offense to the crowd last night, but I don't think Wilco will be playing in Davenport again. The curfew is too early (10:30?? Really??) and the fight squashed the chances as well. But it was still a fantastic night, and I can't wait until my next Wilco show.

And yes, I was the "cheater."

My girlfriend was pretty annoyed with him too. I thougt he was just over-excited, like my dog.

The show was fantastic. Jeff looked more relaxed on stage then ever, playful faces with the crowd, smiles exchanged with John, Pat and Nels, not to mention the love affair between Jeff and Glenn. The highlight of the show for me was Handshake Impossible Germany back to back. Nels dominates those songs and when they play back to back, he gets quite the workout. It is a physical challenge for him to hold up for the whole night, especially when those two are back to back. The SBS songs sound better live, as you can pick up on nuances not as obvious on the album. We got 7 SBS songs, it would be nice to hear the other five in Indy!

It was also great to see so many Wilco fans traveling for the show. Davenport was impressed. My girlfriend and I had nice conversations with the locals working at the Casino, the coffee shop, and the village inn. They said out of towners kept coming in. We were also noticable because there is no one else in town. If not for out of town Wilco fans, there might have been 100 people at the show. (my apologies to anyone from the quad cities, there just is not a lot going on there)

I couldn't agree more with both of these comments. After having heard the songs live, I think this album is really going to grow on me.

i'm too tired to comment a whole lot, but i just wanted to say that last night was fabulous. i got to see old vc friends, meet new ones, and, of course, the music was wonderfully indescribable. i also continue to be impressed with how sincere and patient the band is with fans after the show. it makes me like wilco that much more. (if it's possible to like them more.)

while i was sad about the shortened encore(s) (me no likey fighting :no ), i have to say that my poor, swollen, pregnant lady feet were ready to sit down. so, in a rare moment of optimism, i can say that if i was going to happen at any show, this was a good one for it. although i'm bummed to see that poor places was on the list.

also, a quick shout out to donna and brennan. it was absolutely fantastic to spend so much time with you. :cheekkiss

more later!

Drove in from Milwaukee and had a great, great time. We were lucky enough to have first row seats...right infront of Nels. I must have been just a few seats away from 'omahawilcofan'...great shots, by the way! Watching Nels do his magic was simply amazing. Good God can he play.

It was also really cool meeting some VCers, especially Donna! I am forgetting names right now...my apologies, but it was damn cool chit chatting with folks before and after the show. Was also really cool meeting the band. I've never been one to hang out after shows to do that, but am really glad I did. Totally nice guys, those Wilco boys are. Watching Glenn interact with that kid who got his drum sticks was awesome...he was just so nice to him. Cool stuff.

My friends and I made a 5+ hour drive from central WI. The friend who drove actually came from St. Paul, MN and drove all the way down and back last night, finally dropping me off at my house at around 5:00 AM today. Pretty much very well worth it, though. I very briefly met Donna after the show, but that's about it as far as I know.

Here's some of the pics I took last night, I was in Section C, Row F, Seat 12:

There's quite a few there, sorry to make people wade through them, but I'm too tired to make individual links for my favorites.

Hopefully I'll be making an equally long drive in the opposite direction up to Duluth in August, but that's not yet set in stone. If I do, I hope to meet many more folks.

Aw shucks, Shoesgetcold, they ain't no reason to apologize to anyone from the Quad Cities. Yep, we's got a quant 'lil town here and we hope y'all come visit again real soon. That there Wilco brung in all them high falutin' out-of-towners. Why shoot, they's coulda been no more than 50 locals at that there show on account of all that fancy music them Wilco boys play....

You're welcome! I was with Sooz, actually, but the person you should really thank is gogo - she was the one who landed those tickets even though she couldn't attend. I'm glad you could use them.

epm and omahawilcofan, we must have been right between you in the front. I had a wonderful time, until the fight at least. I guess I'm glad it happened at the end of the night, but it shouldn't have happened at all. Nevertheless, a great show. I loved the new songs I hadn't heard before with the full band - "Sky Blue Sky," "You Are My Face," especially "Hate it Here." And hearing "Kamera" again was certainly a treat. I'm hoping for "Pot Kettle Black" on the East Coast. (Rock tourism and business trips: a match made in heaven.) It was nice to see so many out-of-towners and familiar faces - Joyce (thanks!), Jerry, Sandy, Kara, the kidsmokes, Evonne, lessthanithink whose real name I am horrible at remembering, and of course my Moline posse.

So who's working on their macram

Then, with my new information, it was nice to (kinda) meet you Sooz, and gogo, your seats were used to their fullest, but I'm sorry you couldn't make it.

As for the macrame, I'm going to be hitting up a few garage sales this weekend.

And epm, were you the one up front that was...umm..."catching his second wind" during the encore? It would have been nice to meet the other VC Wauwatosian (Wauwatosite?).

catching my second wind...dude that's really funny (and true!)! You're in tosa...we need to get a drink sometime! Brianne, now that I think about it, you may have been sitting right next to my friend Andrew. Are you the one Jeff hugged at the end of the first set?

hello everyone at via chicago. this is my first post yeeeeeaaah. i drove about 5 and a half hours from minnesota to the show last night and it was well worth it. the only bad thing i can say is that the set was apparently cut short because of the curfew, which is out of their hands anyway. i really really would've liked to have heard a few more summerteeth songs. all of the new stuff sounded really great. i didn't even mind shake it off, which is my least favorite song on sky blue sky. hopefully i will be able to save up some money to see them in duluth in august.

Based on all the photos it looks like they don't have a real piano on this tour. That's kind of a bummer, but I'm sure they manage to get good piano sounds from their keyboards.

you realize chicago and several other cities have a 10:30 curfew for all ages shows on week nights. i don't think anything that happened at that show would stop them from coming back. the energy in the place was off the hook and thats what they will remember. also all you people from the big city are sounding like jerks with your generalizations of the quad cities. you were only there for a few hours. all in all great show great crowd great night.

I was the bald guy with the grin that was equal to the distance between Davenport and Bettendorf who was between EPM and Brianna. After standing that close to Nels and watching his wizardry, meeting the band, getting a picture with Jeff, and having my poster signed, I might retire from concerts. It could not have been any better. Thanks.

I'm also sorry I couldn't make it, but I'm glad those seats went to a happy home. :wave

it was so good to see you, too! in fact, i was listing off to michelle everyone that i had seen, and when i got to your name i realized that i never really got a chance to talk to you. my bad. i'm sure we'll meet again at a midwest show. i'll make a point to actually speak to you then. :)

also, you know how you forget something, and then you randomly remember it, and it makes you all warm and fuzzy inside? that happened to me this morning when i remembered that via chicago had been on the setlist. i've heard it so, so many times live, but it's one that i just never get sick of. the hope i had in a notebook full of white, dry pages was all i tried to save.... :wub also, theologians. :thumbup good stuff. good stuff.
