A few notable points about the show last night:

*A shorter-than-usual show, obviously with time for just one encore. The venue was sort of a big, soulless civic auditorium with an apparently strict 11 p.m. curfew. Things seemed a bit rushed, even to the point where the band cut the clapping bit out of Spiders almost completely.

*It was a fun show, but kind of had an odd vibe to it. Some *really* enthusiastic fans and then a bunch of people just sort of sitting there taking it all in. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Wilco had surprisingly never played Little Rock before (that's what Jeff said). I was a bit surprised by that, figuring that they must have stopped through at least once during the insane touring days of the late 90s.

*Before I'm The Man, when Glenn stood up to do his Todd Trainer tribute, the crew brought out a huge gong and Glenn gave that a couple of whacks before launching into the song. Not sure where the gong came from, but that was new. :)

*The band was pretty loose, all in all. Glenn even went into Hate It Here for a couple seconds when everyone else started playing Too Far Apart, leading to some amused looks by the rest of the gang. :lol

There might even be photographic evidence of this!

Yay!

Show was great fun! I get so happy when they play Muzzle of Beez. Band is loose and happy. They're making it look so easy.

I requested Ziggy Stardust for tonight. Doesn't seem likely.

It was a great show. It was my 6th show, and the first since seeing them in Fayetteville last April. This show was a tenfold improvement over that one. That show just had a weird vibe. This show was probably the best I've ever seen them actually play, but you can't beat it when the crowd is all standing and mashed together at club shows. I hope Wilco finds a venue to play in Arkansas without seats.

Highlights - Too Far Apart (people actually knew the AM songs here), Impossible Germany (it goes without saying, but Nels went OFF), Via Chicago, the gong, Jeff and Pat doing their synchronized guitar poses during Impossible Germany

Only complaint is that it was too short.

I agree 100% with this post. Via Chicago was the highlight. I had no idea I would be hearing too far apart and casino queen. wow. It sounded great. just wish it wasnt so short.

Went to Mississippi last week and it was head and shoulders above Little Rock.

The wife and I were amazed at how low key *lame* the crowd/venue was

What the hell was up with the front row?..........seemed like most of the folks up there had no idea who the band was and were contented sitting there half asleep throughout most of the evening..........early on, many folks rushed down front in the aisles to get in front of the stage but stopped - I guess out of respect of the funeral that was going on in the front row

The band was great, but the crowd was awful. I have seen Wilco many many times since 96 - from Charleston to Little Rock - from bar to theater to outdoor arena - and hands down, last nite was BORING.

My brother and I were in the front row and danced our hearts out for the entire show. And then there was that hippy chick who flashed the band during HMD. The front row was WAY lame, especially considering how many people didn't even show up for their seats.

I'm still reeling over how awesome this night was for me! It kinda sucks coming back to the real world and dealing with everyday things (like car trouble on the ride home) when you'd much rather be rocking out! It was so neat to meet some of you VC peeps there! Thanks for being so freakin' cool! I managed to snag autographs from all of "the Wilcos" except Mikael. :ohwell Those guys are sooooo warm and nice! :wub

There were definitely some duds in the audience, but I thought the overall energy was flowing pretty nicely. Casino Queen, Spiders, Via Chicago...swooooon. I'm jonesin' for another Wilco fix already!

yea there was definately something wierd about some of the folks in the front/,middle...i stood thru the entire show, like every show i go to, I literally heard 2 fellas (obviously fans) telling people NOT to stand ('dont stand, this song isnt a 'standing song'...")...how snobby can you get? There were easily a dozen seats in the front not claimed by the concert's start until Jeff told people to fill in the empties ('those people are late...they know what tiime it starts...")...i know the band picked up on the lack of energy up there...worked for me i could see everything, a few pretty personal moments, you know eye contact with the band...the irony for me was the " ...come with me...come with me..." of the hell is chrome opener, and so many in the crowd didnt plan to go along...

The security people stopped most everyone from coming down and standing in front, the ones without tickets up there, but they were allowed to stand on the sides of the aisles...

I saw that hippy chick flash, too, she was bout 15 feet to my left...pretty funny...

Interesting to see that others felt the same way........I honestly suggested to my wife that maybe it was me, because I was relatively sober for the show - she assured me it was the crowd.

Memphis had the same potential for lameness - with 15 feet between row A and the stage, however, everyone was allowed up front at that show..........I understand being quiet and respectful - but Little Rock was over the top..........it was not a Tweedy solo show

Myrtle Beach a few years ago was the polar opposite - with an over the top rowdy bar crowd - and that was just as lame - so, I guess I am being a whiny baby

Would love to hear a boot of Little Rock - cause the band seemed very on............It just seemed that the audience was more of a sound check audience---------maybe they didn't realize that it was the actual show

I'm in agreement with most of what has been said above. It was as though you had pockets of people mixed throughout the floor that are accustomed to sitting in the upper deck at Alltel (local arena) & fading into the darkness until their favorite two songs are played. Having said that, it didn't seem to have any negative impact on the band whatsoever & that's all that really matters in the end. I know me & my seat mates (super cool young couple from Kansas City) pogo'd our asses off & certainly didn't let it bring us down. I thought the band was tighter than ever & really put on a solid show. The curfew was the only issue that I had a problem with. By the end of the first (& only) encore, I felt the floor had reached the point that it should have been at from the start. & had a few more tickets actually been sold, the band might have been willing to pay the fine & continue. & speaking of tickets, does anybody really have the illusion that the empty seats up front were from no-shows? You can thank the fine folks at Ticketmaster (& their collusion w/ the ticket brokers) for that debacle. Anyway... I thought the performance was superb. The combination of the current lineup & where Jeff is at (personally) appear to be pushing the band as a whole to a level that has been slightly out of their grasp in the past. In my opinion, now is the time to do a three or four consecutive show mini tour if your schedule or finances allow. I know I'm now regretting not doing so (when I had the chance).

What was the deal with that? Were front row seats really held back and unsold until the day of the show?

Not held back - but the big national ticket brokers got lots of the choice seats up front as usual (which did not sell well at their absurd prices, especially considering the overall demand). There are a pair of front row seats available on Ebay at this very moment (one would think they might want to discount those at this point). I enjoy the fact that they had to eat a large number of the tickets, but it won't change things. I would like to see Wilco go the Pearl Jam route, in which fan club members get all the best seats (based upon seniority within the club), but I guess it's a bit late in the game for that. Not sure how they are able to keep this agreement in place (as most others can't), but it really does work out great.

You know, that really pisses me off. I bought our 4 seats the moment they went onsale in the presale and got row M. Miss Chris and I ended up in the second row (we were waiting for the invite and the moment Jeff started to say "come down" we made our move), but that is just wrong unless a charity sale or something was planned.

Anyway, I had a great time dancing my ass off; I thought the band was great -- and the people around us and behind us were dancing and singing for the most part. In some ways, meeting the VCers was the very best part. I love this place.
