Oil Can Boyd
I'm not saying it is or isn't the 100 Greatest Indie-Rock albums but it's an awful lot of good music.I have 62 of the 100.
tongue-tied
good list, poor ranking.
jc4prez
what makes these bands indie? Aren't a lot of them released by major labels? Where is: Abbey Road? or "From The Mars Hotel" or "In Rainbows"
cryptique
Ted Leo's The Tyranny of Distance is better than most of the stuff on that list. It's not a bad list, but mine would look a lot different.
deepseacatfish
Aren't a lot of them released by major labels?Yes. A lot of the albums on this list were well before "indie" even became a music term. I mean "Another Green World" is great, but I certainly would never call it indie--they're probably just using it as a catch phrase for "hip." It's just not cool to say the 100 "Hippest" albums these days or something. Also, Slanted and Enchanted doesn't beat out Daydream Nation. Also, my list would be named differently and look different, but Wilco deserves is place (and probably a few more up too).
Dr. Steve Brule
I hope everyone here owns the top 10.
lizish
I hope everyone here owns the top 10. True. I fall down at 'Loveless' though, hearing it a couple times and never making a connection. I also don't see the attraction of the Misfits - but that's just me. Not that we need to play 'this is missing' or 'that should be raked higher' but I'd put Wrens - Meadowlands at Numero 1. Sir Stewart
I hope everyone here owns the top 10.How's half?
cryptique
I hope everyone here owns the top 10.I own five in paid-for copies, and three in "other" copies.
Doug
It's good to see Unrest get some love. Those guys (and sexy girl) were underrated in my humble opinion. "Yes, She is My Skinhead Girl" should've been a top 10 hit.
Welsh Rich
I hope everyone here owns the top 10. I don't have the Big Star album, but I've never been able to get into them for some reason. Interesting list but, yeah as someone mentioned, my list would be different. I guess that's the fun Not that we need to play 'this is missing' or 'that should be raked higher' but I'd put Wrens - Meadowlands at Numero 1. That's a good point though... intodeep
I only own 31 of these albums.... my indie cred is gone lol
imsjry
It's funny. I was loving this list until I saw #1. I will never understand the Pavement thing. I try every year or so and each time, meh.
boywiththorninside
I usually don't go too nuts about these lists, but I'm surprised "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" wasn't higher. I like that album a lot less than most, but I've always looked at it as the indie rock album. Also, I would have liked to see YHF placed higher. Like was said earlier though, regardless of what is ranked where, there is a lot of good music on this list.
willywoody
the list is predictably too heavy on recent releases. arcade fire c'mon. alt-country is neglected. and it looks like a group is only allowed one album. whatever.
cryptique
and it looks like a group is only allowed one album. whatever. There are two each from Meat Puppets and Pavement.
quarter23cd
I know this is hard to believe, but I don't agree with everything in that list.
willywoody
There are two each from Meat Puppets and Pavement. my bad. but now that you point it out, two albums from the meat muppets!?!? oh yeh but there's two from husker du as well!
brianjeremy
Not a bad list. I've got 56 out of the whole lot. I would have re-arranged things differently though.
Aeglos
mmm one good thing about these lists is they remind me of good things i have meant to check out for ages and forgotten
