How to introduce Wilco to a couple of Metalheads

Recommended Posts

So this past Sunday i met my girlfriends friends while we watched the giants game. They're really cool bunch, but the dudes are all metal heads. They asked me what my favorite band was, and right as i was about to respond, the jetta commercial featuring Walken comes on.

I said that the band playing right now, Wilco, was my favorite band, and they laughed. I told them it wasn't the best example of a wilco tune (it had to fit a fucking jetta commercial...), and that they can rock if the want to (somebody replied, "they're rocking me to sleep right now")

So if you were in my shoes and had to (re)introduce wilco to a couple of metal heads, nice dudes, but metal heads nonetheless, what would you play them?

Does the fact that I listened to a lot of metal/hard rock 30+ years ago and eventually I got around to liking Wilco have any meaning here (regarding the topic)?

I hope it doesn't take your friends that long!

> Monday.

the brass section will scare them off

try Outtasite (not the sesame street version, though)

some of the live songs they did in the 90's might help (punk version of passenger side, and some of the covers. (cock in my pocket will be a good one)

i've never understood this whole "how to introduce someone to wilco" thing. i mean, i guess i can see making them a compilation cd, as has been discussed in many-a-thread, but just play them wilco, they'll either like it or they won't. don't try to play something hard just because they like metal. play them the songs you like best, or maybe an album you like best, and just let them listen.

and in my experience with putting wilco on for people that didn't know of them, they never liked it at first, but came back a month later or whatever, and said "wow, so wilco's amazing"

I would just play some music for them, probably Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I was drinking at a bar and I met these serious metal kids going to a Melvins show. I used to be a big Melvins fan so we were talking about their old tunes. When they saw my Wilco shirt they freaked out. This was before Sky Blue Sky came out and they were really interested in what their new material would be like. I think if they like good music they don't necessarily need to hear something hard.

LNGCA rocks pretty damn hard - and it even has a drum solo! :thumbup

LNGCA...

LNGCA

Congratulations. You have just pushed one of my pet peeve buttons. (Please excuse the following rant, but my neck and knee are hurting, I didn't get much sleep last night, and you won the 'piss off crow lottery'.)

So...LNGCA isn't ringing any bells. So, I go to the iPod to pull up my wilco albums...none match. LNGCA...Is it really that hard to type the song name? Or is it some sort of key to hipness to know or invent acronyms for every song, every album, every name, every venue...?

What is being done here is exclude me (and other acronymally challenged board members) from a reasonably interesting and enjoyable thread.

Like I noted above...I hope my tone isn't too pissed off. It's been a really tough couple of weeks.
