I have heard a couple of songs from the album and I am in love!

"Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" is a beautiful song.

Zooey's voice and the fact that she is a stone-cold fox make for a great combo :thumbup

I just started to really get into M. Ward so this was perfect timing for me.

There's a reason I'm not a music critic, so here's my entirely worthless review of last night's show:

:wub Zooey is beautiful, her voice is amazing, and I liked the songs, on first hearing. M. didn't sing much; duets on some covers, but not much on the originals. I was kind of expecting the whole thing to be more duet-y, which I think I might have preferred, but it seems to be a showcase for her voice as much as anything else.

Not much chatting with the crowd, the best bit of banter came from an audience member, a woman who yelled "You're lovely!" Then when Zooey said "Ooh, thanks... Wait, do you mean me or Matt?", she answered "Matt!"

Oh, I thought it was 'You're dreamy..." but either way, it was hilarious. :lol

I haven't heard any leaks of the record or anything, but Zooey's voice is quite charming and surprisingly powerful live. In terms of the original stuff, it sounded pretty good but I'd need a few more listens to evaluate the songwriting. It did seem like the whole "She and Him" project was very much a showcase for her, though, with Matt there in more of a supporting/confidence boosting role. They played about 40-45 minutes in all, including a brief two-song encore.

P.S. Great to see you, Maud!

I saw the set yesterday at the museum.

Sentimental Heart was my favorite before seeing them live, and it is still my favorite.

Zooey really needs to work on her stage presence. Not much personality at all.

Thurston Moore and Okkervil River's sets (before and after She and Him) were awesome, btw.

I saw 'em twice at SXSW, at the Parish on Friday night and at the Harp picnic on Saturday. Zooey did seem a tense at the mike on Friday, but considering it was only their second gig together, it's understandable that they don't have a polished stage act. Plus those big eyes naturally bring to mind deer in the headlights. Still, her voice was quite lovely and her songs sneak up on you in interesting ways (one kicks off like "I Must Be High," another like "This Year's Girl"). I grabbed the CD on Sunday at Waterloo and I'm liking it a lot. You can hear the whole thing here. ("This Is Not A Test" is stuck in my head, in a good way.)

I'll probably be taking another look at "All The Real Girls" soon. :wub

it was more than their second gig together (they announced at the Friday radio gig for the Current they'd played half a dozen shows up until that point). they played Noise Pop in San Fran a week or two before SXSW and a couple LA gigs prior.

was the Harp picnic you refer to the thing at the French Legation Museum?

I stand corrected. Still, pretty much all the other acts at SXSW have been performing for years, which made Zooey's uncertainty more pronounced.

That's the one. I could not believe people would stand in line that long for PBRs, free or no.
