Sweet Papa Crimbo
But people said Jimmy Carter was the antichrist. The interpretation of the Book of Revelation is usually pretty wild and random (not sure how it could be interpreted literally, tree-hugger, as it's clearly metaphoric language). A lot of theologians say that the book describes events that happened later in the first century. I have NEVER heard the born again Baptist Jimmy Carter describes as the 'antichrist'. Is there some citation you can provide?

Duck-Billed Catechist
I have NEVER heard the born again Baptist Jimmy Carter describes as the 'antichrist'. Is there some citation you can provide?I have read some anectdote about "When I was young, my uncle told me that Jimmy Carter was the antichrist" or that sort of thing. My guess is that all such predictions have been long-since scuttled at this point. I know that he had a lot of support amongst what we now call the Christian right, but my guess is that the people accused of being anti-christs are often Christian and that the accusations involve them being a FAKE Christian (ie Obama). Mr. Kinsley
I stumbled into the comments section of some political blog and even the Hillary supporters there were talking about how cultish they thought the Obama supporters were, how they'd met him and felt "a chill," I think some even threw out the anti-christ bit as a semi-joke (but only semi.) What I find creepy is the lengths that people will go to smear his name. That and people who put pictures of him in their avatar.

bobbob1313
dude.. I have lived here all my freaking life. I don't 'blame' anything on the south. You would have to be incredibly insulated not to feel the inherent longing and general self esteem issues of the south. We are ridiculed in popular culture and media and there is an outsider mentality that pervades our very being. Ain't about my pistolAin't about my bootsAin't about no northern drivesAin't about my southern rootsAin't about my guitars, ain't about my big old amps"It ain't rained in weeks, but the weather sure feels damp"Ain't about excuses or alibisAin't about no cotton fields or cotton picking liesAin't about the races, the crying shame To the fucking rich man all poor people look the same Don't get me wrong It just ain't rightMay not look strong, but I ain't afraid to fightIf you want to live another dayStay out the way of the southern thing Ain't about no hatred better raise a glassIt's a little about some rebels but it ain't about the pastAin't about no foolish pride, Ain't about no flagHate's the only thing that my truck would want to drag You think I'm dumb, maybe not too brightYou wonder how I sleep at nightProud of the glory, stare down the shameDuality of the southern thing My Great Great Granddad had a hole in his sideHe used to tell the story to the family Christmas nightGot shot at Shiloh, thought he'd die aloneFrom a Yankee bullet, less than thirty miles from homeAin't no plantations in my family treeDid NOT believe in slavery, thought that all men should be free"But, who are these soldiers marching through my land?"His bride could hear the cannons and she worried about her man I heard the story as it was passed downAbout guts and glory and Rebel standsFour generations, a whole lot has changedRobert E. LeeMartin Luther King We've come a long way rising from the flameStay out the way of the southern thing That's the part of the south I like. There is a pride from the south that the rest of the country doesn't really understand. I don't believe everyone in the south is a jackass, racist pig. I'm from Florida, which is in the south, but not really The South, but I still see that southerners are looked down on by most of the country, and it isn't right. There is just as much ignorance, racism, and intolerance in the North, it's just hidden a little better. Though I don't actually believe there is a ton of institutionalized racism in either part of the country, for the most part. In pockets, sure. The part I don't like is when they do the Chili Cook Off (huge country music/southern pride deal) right next to my house and I walk past with another hispanic friend and some jackass flying a confederate flag asks us "what the hell we are doing" near there. I understand the flag is part of the culture, or whatever, but there's a reason it has such a stigma, and it's for people like that asshole. seems to me that Hillary supporters will be more than happy to get behind Barack if he wins the nomination but Obama supporters dont seem so loyal. What the fuck are you talking about? They don't have to be loyal to anyone but themselves. Stop identifying yourself by your political party. Loyalty shouldn't mean anything in politics. bobbob1313
Obama Supporter Who Apparently Listened It's sad when it becomes refreshing to hear someone who isn't just a partisan hack. Someone who actually thinks about the reasons why they support someone. The fact that he says "I may vote for McCain" indicates to me that he actually has a working brain. There are 8 months to the election. I can't imagine how people have unequivocally made their minds up about this.
Reni
Well, I know McCain well enough to tell you I won't vote for him. I wouldn't vote for any of the GOP candidates.....at least not the batch that came out this year. I honestly don't know how people remain so undecided for so long......it's not like we are really going to hear anything new over the next few months. Most of these guys have been in the running for coming up on a year. I can't imagine having any radical shifts in my thinking that I would end up voting with the GOP. The only reason I wouldn't vote Dem this year is if Hillary is nominated because the DNC decides to seat the delegates from FL and MI - pushing her over the mark. The other candidates respected the national party's wishes and took their names off the ballots. She won them and now she wants them. If that happens, it's fraud, and I will go Green and vote for Cynthia McKinney. If Hillary wins fair and square, I will vote for her - begrudgingly.
