GnR's Appetite should probably make the list as well as The Clash, The Clash. Never Mind the Bullocks, too. Debut and last album.

This is correct.

Van Morrison, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Ryan Adams all made amazing debut albums.

I also like Dire Straits, Tracy Chapman, N.W.A., Daniel Lanois and Radiohead.

Truth! Wasn't Van's debut just a glorified collection of singles, though?

I think this list is required by law to always begin with My Aim is True. Even if you don't like Elvis Costello (we're getting into some tricky theory now, though, because everybody loves EC).

My Aim is True

Music from Big Pink

The Clash

Sloan - Smeared

Marquee Moon

Arcade Fire - Funeral

VU and Nico

No Dep

Trace

Constantines

Five Leaves Left

Waits - Closing Time

The Millennium - Begin

New Pornographers - Mass Romantic

Neko Case - The Virginian

T Bone Burnett - Truth Decay

Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?

Gram Parsons - GP (yeah, he'd done a lot by then, so this is cheating)

Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary

And then a wildcard slot, because there are a few contenders, but none that I feel strongly enough about to rank over any of the others.

The Chicago Transit Authority is the eponymous debut album by the Chicago-based rock band The Chicago Transit Authority, who would later be known as Chicago. It was recorded and released in 1969.

1. "Introduction" (Terry Kath)

I was always a huge fan of the Chicago debut. Terry Kath nearly out Claps Clapton on that. The solos on Poem 58 and Liberation are killers.

Someone gave me that album when I was 14 - I think - original pressing. I have the re-master on cd. It's a great album. There are some awesome bass lines on it, as well.
