CortezTheKiller
A joke on the word Survivor. I think there are some good songs on BITUSA - but the sound is too polished. I have read that Jon Landau was pushing Bruce to come up with hit songs - thus Dancing In The Dark was born.I posted something to that effect on one of the many "shit on Bruce Springsteen without having a clue as to what he's about" threads that pop up around these parts. They wanted to make a record that captured the sound of the time - Thriller, Cyndi Lauper, Insert 80's MTV Darling with a Bruce twist. Some great, though-provoking, dark lyrics set to some less-than-desirable music. I guess it's only appropriate that the video for "Dancing in the Dark" launched Courtney Cox's career. Analogman
I like Darlington County, I'm Goin' Down, Downbound Train,The protagonist's three jobs in five verses are only symptomatic of its problems and My Hometown. I seldom ever listen to that album though.

lizish
Toyko Police Club are a younger, thinner version of the Decemberists. Â I now better understand why I don't find TPC all that appealing.

bjorn_skurj
I don't know if this is a blaspheme, but I just don't see the appeal of the Decemeberists at all.

Tenderloin
And Jack White is worthless. I love Jack White like a little brother I think a better name for Widespread Panic would be Widespread Painful Beggar's Banquet steals Exile's lunch money and then beats it up after school I dozed off at the Tom Waits show last August Richard Cheese is a genius
lamradio
No matter how hard I try, I can't get into The Flaming Lips. What's so great about Spoon?
quarter23cd
I love Jack White like a little brotherI think a better name for Widespread Panic would be Widespread PainfulI'll counter and raise it up a couple notches: Widespread Panic is the best live band I've seen that starts with W.

Tenderloin
Please dont let this thread die talking about the Painful...
quarter23cd
I guess I could have put an * next to my WSP comments, noting that I have not seen the band since '97 or so and am not sure how I would feel about sitting through an entire show of theirs today--they're getting a bit tired, imo.(but this is a blasphemy thread and what would be the fun in that?) But Panic back then? Lights out, 100% pure badassery. The 2nd best live performance I've seen from a "W" band is Ween.
lizish
Alejandro Escovedo, while wonderfully talented, has also been extremely boring since he left Rank and File.
jff
I've been to 2 festivals that WP has closed and I left both festivals early. Every time I've seen WSP (numerous times during the '90s), their opening band blew them off the stage.
