I wish I would have gotten this e-mail. I'm on the list, too.

I found out through Paste magazine's site.

Good song. And yeah, it's a Dylan cover because he wrote it, but in all honesty the version is pretty much a cover of The Band's live version at The Last Waltz.

WILCO October Surprise(s)

greetings all from HQ,

We'll try to be concise here as we've got a lot of news to report. First, some upcoming Wilco appearances:

On the TV this Thursday night (30 Oct. ) Wilco appear on the Colbert Report on Comedy Central @ 1130 edt. Be there or set your DVRs.

In person, this Saturday (1 Nov.) in Madison, Wis. Messrs. Tweedy, Stirratt and Sansone (the Wilco 3?) perform a "Concert for Change" at the Wisconsin Union Theatre (doors 11am/show noon). They'll be ably supported by words of inspiration from Wis. U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold and others.. More info here.

We've just added two headline shows for December on off days on the Neil Young tour. Rochester NY Auditorium Theater (6 Dec., on sale now) and Baltimore MD Lyric Opera House (14 Dec., onsale 31 Oct.). Info here.

There are also assorted solo shows upcoming. Among them: Mikael Jorgensen's Pronto @ Santos Party House New York 7 Nov.; Glenn Kotche w/ eighth blackbird @ Harris Theater Chicago 18 Nov.; Nels Cline Singers @ Cafe Du Nord San Francisco 19 Nov., and Jeff Tweedy @ the Ann Arbor (MI) Folk Festival 30 Jan. 09. Info at the assorted relevant sites.

Other news:

The band are just back from the Bridge School Benefit in SF -- their second time at one of the more beautiful events any of us have ever seen or been a part of. And to top it off, we got to witness the guys finish their set on Sunday with a moving version of "I shall be released" with a guest appearance by Neil and Pegi Young. Amazing stuff.

They've also been working away at The Loft on the as-yet-untitled next studio album. Lots of great stuff tracked already and much more to come. Expect to hear something out there in the world in the first half of '09. More updates on this as things develop.

Speaking of "I Shall be Released", the version recorded this summer with the Fleet Foxes is still available for download at the cost of a mere pledge to vote in the US elections next Tuesday (4 Nov.). We should add that if you are not a US citizen or for other reasons ineligible to vote, we'll settle for a good deed of your choosing (how about, for instance, giving someone who CAN vote a reminder phone call or a ride to the polls?). Click here for the download and more info.

Also, we have a CONSUMER ALERT. Without consulting us, the DVD company (not WB/Nonesuch) that released "I am trying to break your heart" is about to issue a Blu-Ray Edition which, no surprise, costs considerably more (nearly 2x) than the standard DVD. We're unsure as to the rationale for the release, given that the film was shot in beautiful grainy B&W and has a stereo-only audio track... there is, in our opinion, not much to be gained by spending the extra cash. It's your money... and in this case you should probably hang onto it.

Lastly, we implore you to vote next Tuesday, if not sooner. Many states are still offering early voting. For info on that or about your polling place, etc. go to: http://wilcoworld.net/vote/ It's never been more important. Fear and complacency are our silent enemies.

see you out there soon.

Greetings all and welcome to our first update of 2009. Man, we've got a lot to cover.

First, "Ashes of American Flags", the wilco concert film, had it's world premiere at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival last weekend and won the award for Best Cinematography. Congratulations to filmmakers Brendan Canty and Christoph Green, who were in Missoula for the event, and will be in San Francisco later today (Wednesday) for the screening at the Noise Pop Film Festival. For more info about future screenings, the April DVD release, or to see the trailer, click

here.

The band's April tour (their only US dates of the spring) is up on the site now. Milwaukee, Bloomington IN and Athens OH presales are today (Wed.). The others are already on sale and several are very close to selling out. So if you're pondering seeing the band this spring... you better act fast or contemplate booking a

trip to Spain. Otherwise, it's "see you in June".

The band are making major progress on the upcoming soon-to-be-titled LP. They've been hunkered down in the loft with Jim Scott and are just about ready to start mixing. We've got it on the calendar for release in June -- watch the site for further and more specific news in the next few weeks.

On the side project and miscellany fronts: Nels Cline has a new record out that's getting well-deserved great reviews. Check it out here.

Glenn Kotche performs with the Bang on a Can All Stars in Philadelphia (Kimmel Center) this weekend and New York (Alice Tully Hall @ Lincoln Center) next week. Info here.

Mike Jorgensen's new group Pronto have a record coming out March 10. Two out of 3 of Jeff Tweedy's March solo shows are sold out. Some tickets for Beacon, NY benefit show for the Sloop Clearwater remain available here.

The Bad Plus have a cool cover of Wilco's "Radio Cure" on their new release "For All I Care". Look for it. Our friend Dan Nadel has some great art books for sale at this site. We strongly recommend you pay him a visit.

There's also another sale on at the Wilco store. Check out the deals here.

Gotta run back to the studio. We hope to see you out there somewhere soon.

so, when they say "better book a flight to spain or it's 'see you in june'", does that mean a summer tour is going to happen? for sure?

i would imagine they are going to play some shows this summer, yes. i mean, they do have a new record coming out. :ermm

For a moment I thought you were asking about your own avatar.

I thought the same thing, and I thought "that is Batman stupid"

Then I thought, "Why would Batman want to blow up a studio with Wilco recording in it?"

It didn't make sense.

Greetings everyone.

We're coming up for air here at HQ; it's been busier than ever with preparations for the DVD, the record, the tours, etc. Phew. We'll all be glad when some of this stuff sees the light of day.

For starters, you can preorder the Ashes of American Flags DVD (and extras) on the site now. Click here for information. It's already award winning (Best Cinematography, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival) and garnering quite a few stars (4 stars Q, Uncut). Uncut says it's "a portrait of a band finding their peak." Q summarizes it in a headline that reads Ashes of American Flags: "in which the reigning Great American Rock band prove it is possible to make a tour film with hidden depths". We hope you'll dig it as much as we/they do.

Speaking of tours, the April dates are up and on sale. Half of the shows are already sold out, but there are still tickets in a handful of markets. Info. For details re: May/June shows in Spain and Portugal, Click here.

We've got a bit of news about the forthcoming album up on the news page. The due date is still late June.

Jeff Tweedy is on a mini-tour (with Pronto supporting) this weekend. All are sold out but info available here. Glenn Kotche is playing Sunday & Tuesday. info here.

Prize department: we're giving away a pair of passes to the 10,000 Lakes festival in Minnesota this summer. Click here for info and entry form.

that's all.

Don't forget the Ashes of American Flags DVD out next Saturday (April 18) for Record Store Day. It's also available for preorder at http://ashesofamericanmovie.com We're kicking off the new touring season with a live webcast from Milwaukee's Pabst Theater this Wednesday night at http://wilcoworld.net/roadcase/ Prior to the first show, Wilco will be at Miller Park for the Brewers game on Monday night where Jeff Tweedy is scheduled to throw out the first pitch.
