Scalzunfield
Hey no problem. My intro to the band was at the Wilco Millenium Park show. I listened to Dr Dog's myspace the day before and heard "My Old Ways" and could not get it out of my head. Seeing them live from 9 rows back there was awesome and I finally got to see them again at the Double Door earlier this year. Needless to say, I have picked up tickets to see them in Milwaukee in February (I'm about a 90 minute drive from Chicago and Milwaukee so it helps out greatly when I want to see bands). I might even hit Madison or Iowa City too.

Scalzunfield
you do realize they're playing chicago saturday right? Yeah but they're not headlining and the ticket price and not wanting to see any of the other bands made it an easy choice to wait until February in Milwaukee.
jc4prez
Yeah but they're not headlining and the ticket price and not wanting to see any of the other bands made it an easy choice to wait until February in Milwaukee. They actually are headlining. Bela Fleck plays till 10 and then Dr. Dog goes on and they've got a full set. There were tickets on Groupon.com two days ago for 15 bucks. There were tickets on Groupon.com two days ago for 15 bucks. Nice. Thought I read Bela Fleck was the headliner. In any case, not a huge deal as I'm doing early Christmas 650 miles away with my family and am traveling there on Saturday. Have fun if you're going!
fortuneinmyhead
I've found their albums to be terrific, kind of a cross between The Band and Guided by Voices.
mjm71
The Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival was great this year. Dr. Dog was indeed a headliner, along with the Flecktones, and theyput on one hell of a show. In spite of some technical difficulties - e.g. bass amp failure - they played with lots of energy &good humor. The set was an homage to quality rock-n-roll - I really like these cats. I've attached a few pics for your enjoyment(I hope ) -later,mjm

lamradio
Awesome pics, thanks for posting. Makes me want to see them live again. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to. Come down south again soon!
jc4prez
This was a great set. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about hearing the technical skill of the flecktones followed by some rough rock and roll but it was great. Best Dr. Dog show I've seen.
mjm71
This was a great set. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about hearing the technical skill of the flecktones followed by some rough rock and roll but it was great. Best Dr. Dog show I've seen. Yeah I know where you're coming from. The thing I noticed about the Bluegrass & Blues Fest is that it's not limited to those genres. It's far more diverse with lots of interesting folks in the crowd. And most of the musicians are easily approachable throughout the day. I'd recommend checking it out next year - there were many good, if obscure bands playing for a reasonable price ($35). And the Flecktones were really, really good. Last year the Avett Bros. headlined and they too were great. -marty Awesome pics, thanks for posting. Makes me want to see them live again. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to. Come down south again soon! Thanks. It really helps to have unfettered access to the stage. -marty

Toby is on the left (bass) and sings the even numbered songs (Hang On, Army of Ancients, The Ark, etc). Scott is on the right (guitar) and sings the odd numbered tracks (The Breeze, The Old Days, etc)
