Stevie Ray is to Hendrix as Johnson is to Jeff Beck (or so it seems to me)

I don't know how I forgot SRV - he DOES do a lot of instrumentals. I was listening to the first LP tonight and "Rude Mood" and "Lenny" are both stellar.

All of these by Elliott Smith:

Instrumental - the one that sounds like a good album opener with some piano and a really grooving walking up and down guitar part

See You in Heaven

Tiny Time Machine

The version of Baby Britain in the beginning of the short film Lucky 3

Some of these were probably going to have vocals had he not, you know, died. So I'm not sure if they still count, but they are all really kickass.

Watermelon In Easter Hay

Zoot Allures

Dog Breath>Uncle Meat

Sofa No. 1

Rat Tomago

Other artists:

Interstellar Overdrive - Pink Floyd

Foxglove - Bruce Cockburn

Water Into Wine - Bruce Cockburn

Hendrix - Tax Free

Okay, so I mentioned Meat Puppets' "Six-Gallon Pie" before, but they also did another one of my favorites:

"Maiden's Milk"

complete with whisteling... in (bad) harmony!

I wonder how high they were when they recorded that one?

Steve Morse "Tumeni Notes". I can't help but love this guy, but I doubt I'd make it through a whole album.

Met the guy at a NAMM show when I was 16.

He went out of his way to be nice to me; gave me some good guitar advice and was just a generally good guy.

It's cool when stuff like that happens.

It's funny that he went from being a professional musician to commercial airline pilot back to professional musician.

He always seemed like a cool guy. Just a frighteningly good guitar player.

As far as this thread:

Cruise Missile (or anything else off "The Introduction" by Steve Morse")

Zap - Eric Johnson
