Preferred B
Well, holy shit. And to think I almost turned it off when it was 7-0. I mean, who would do that?

Guest Jules
I just got home to watch in the 9th. Did Joe Buck say the BoSox had 7 unearned runs!?!If he did, he was wrong. Pretty sure all earned. correction: last run unearned. Longoria error.
Moe_Syzlak
Perhaps he meant (or he said and I just heard wrong) unanswered? Did the Rays go up 7-nada?

MrRain422
If he did, he was wrong. Pretty sure all earned. correction: last run unearned. Longoria error. Pretty sure that run should still be earned. The official call on Youk getting on base was a single where he advanced to second on the error. Since he didn't get on base or score on the error (just advanced a base) I think that should still be considered an earned run.
Sir Stewart
blah blah blah the Red Sox win!!!!

MrRain422
I'm sure this is a hard loss for the Rays, but I think the TBS guys are overstating it a bit. The way they're talking, it's as if everyone will be surprised if the Rays even show up for the next game because they're so heartbroken. I don't know if they'll win the next game, but if they don't, it will probably be because the Red Sox are a really good team and it's easy to lose 2 in a row to them, not necessarily because they're still feeling dejected from this one. Also, I LOL'd at Craig Sager asking Dan Wheeler about the Ortiz homerun, apparently not realizing that it was Grant Balfour gave that up until Wheeler told him that he was warming up at the time. Moltisanti
This is why we watch sports. Just an amazing comeback by the Sox. Rays still win game six by a lot.

Tonight as a case in point. I disagree that the Rays won't "show up" but there's something to be said to taking a hit like they did tonight. Had BOS not made that come back tonight, people would be talking about how badly the Rays beat up on them and how poor the Sox played. Which they did. Save for three innings tonight. It's a fickle game, which is why I don't discount shit like momentum, chemistry, etc. I know plenty of folks do. BOS may very well get stomped Saturday, but the life they showed tonight when it had to be shown is promising. This is why we watch sports. Just an amazing comeback by the Sox. Rays still win game six by a lot.Beckett is due for a stellar performance. But...who knows. It is why we watch.
Moltisanti
Yeah, Beckett is gonna get rocked Saturday night. It's gonna be like batting practice for the Rays. Celebrating winning the pennant at Fenway would have been great, but I guess doing it at home at the Trop will have to do.

They Just Suck. That said, there was a consensus to just ignore the voodoo doll and clearly that hurt more than anything I could have done to it. In the meantime, i fell asleep (been sick all week) and missed the rally. So that is probably what I get for releasing on baseball a leeeeetle too early.
sweetheart-mine
what a great trip! now, is it true that fans booed papi mid-game last night? (before the homer, of course). the nytimes says that this morning, and so did the tbs guys last night. i didn't hear it and hope it isn't true.

I don't really have a problem with players being booed by their fans when they don't deliver, no matter their past.

Oil Can Boyd
Agreed. Maybe the boos gave him a nudge, too. They haven't helped Varitek. A friend of mine's band was playing last night at a bar in Cambridge. It was 5-0 Rays when they started playing. As they finished their first set someone came in and said that Coco had just tied it up. And that sentence was so hard to comprehend. We all (including the band) went upstairs where there were TVs and watched the 9th. Then we all went back downstairs and they played another set, starting with Dirty Water. It was pretty flippin' sweet.
