MrRain422
Socialist-Muslim Barack Hussain Obama forces Americans to stand in the cold rain. I do have to take issue with Obama here:Dressed in blue jeans and a black jacket, Barack Obama braved the cold rain falling in Pennsylvania, and held his scheduled rally - outdoors. “A little bit of rain never hurt anybody,” he quipped to the 9,000 who showed up in ponchos and futilely holding umbrellas. Am I to believe that Obama has never heard of William Henry Harrison?
Doug C
I was. I was posting in political threads in 2004 (though I'd hate to go back and read them...) and I remember staying up most of the night during the 2000 election. I was as politically aware as a 12-16 year old could be, and I was way more liberal then, so I was pretty aware of and in line with the democratic party.Okay then. Who am I to doubt your precocious political awareness? Kudos to you and your parents.
viatroy
.. "their efforts have been cast in the pattern of an outworn tradition. Faced by failure of credit, they have proposed only the lending of more money. Stripped of the lure of profit by which to induce our people to follow their false leadership, they have resorted to exhortations, pleading tearfully for restored confidence. They only know the rules of a generation of self-seekers. They have no vision, and when there is no vision the people perish."
turtlegirl37
i think we can bi-partisanly agree this is totally awesome: I liked it. But what's with the one white kid who lacks rhythm? He's giving credence to stereotypes!

mountain bed
These anti-Obama ads are really starting to get more and more sinister. Can't even imagine what we'll be seeing November third. It seems to me the venom has really been cranked up here in just the last few days. It's just horrible. If (and I do say IF) McCain loses, and especially if he loses by a large margin I think we're gonna look back on this and say that unquestionably where he blew it was the choice of Palin. Christ, she is such a polarizing figure that she not only polarizes the right and left she actually has polarized those in her own party! That's quite a piece of work if you ask me. this all comes back around to the fact that McCain did not know her well enough, and she obviously was not vetted properly. Who are the multitudes that flock to see her speak? Wtf, are they sheep? After 2 months of this woman it's hard to find anyone with half a brain who can give a reasoned intelligent argument in her behalf. JM had his nomination sewn up 8 months ago and for 5 months he did next to nothing. He had 5 freaking months to come up with an outstanding VP choice. Hell, a Kay Bailey Hutchinson or a Susan Collins would have been a strong choice imo. He fucking BLEW it.
bjorn_skurj
Here is a funny e-mail my friend who is a grade-school teacher in a western state sent me: So, as the election falls upon us, it amuses me to no end that, among my 7-year-old, female students, Barack Obama is second only to Troy from "High School Musical" (the fratrentboy-looking one with the pancake makeup) No, i have not made them that way, they came to me like that. I had never even mentioned it until the day I was putting on a jacket and they saw my button. Transcript follows: Little Girl #1: "What's that?"Little Girl #2: "It's for Barack Obama. I love Barack Obama."Little Girl #3: "I watch channel 13 every night so I can watch Barack Obama."Little Girl #4: "I don't like John McCain. He yells at people to shut up and he lies."Little Girl #2: "I'm going to vote for Barack Obama!"Numerous Little Girls: "Barack Obama!"Little Girl #5: "He's gonna be our president." Although my all-time favorite is now the question one of my students asked me quite solemnly, since we're doing government and elections this week:"Is John McCain George Washington's brother or just his friend? Because they look the same." The temptation to send her around the school asking the other teachers this was well-nigh overwhelming. As was the idea of saying, "No, but they went to college together." But, yeah, the fact that he means so much to my little babies of the minority and the title one and the at-risk and the ghetto where whenever anything bad happens on the news you know it happened within four blocks of my school--that's always been a big point in his favor for me. They need all the inspiration they can get. Even more then the rest of us. ... i'm sorry, was i on a soapbox? How did i get up here?
Edie
$10 i post that up in JAF attributed to early tweedy lyrics from the upcoming album, people think it's genius. that said, she's about of good of a writer as she is a comedian. Ha -- I looked in the JAF forum first this am (don't ask why I'm up) and saw that. I thought the verse about the dog was about the stupidest thing I'd ever read, and thought to myself when did Jeff get a dog Good bit. VJ is out of her gourd. BBob, I am proud of you for your reasoning I would say that even if you had voted "wrong". Obama will win north of 300 electoral votes -- probably in the 310 range.

Sir Stewart
My wife's parents in NJ have been bombarding their kids with anti-Obama emails for weeks. This latest one drew her to respond (below the fwd):Fwd: FW: FW: Notice to All Employees As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama is officially elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness: 1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a 'fair shake.' 2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will help those who are 'too busy for overtime' to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours. 3. All top management will now be referred to as 'the government.' We will not participate in this 'pooling' experience because the law doesn't apply to us. 4. The 'government' will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging it's workers to continue to work hard 'for the good of all.' 5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's 'good to spread the wealth.' Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more 'patriotic.' 6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free foodstamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can't pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our democratic congress, you might even get a free flatscreen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?) !!! If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want to rethink your vote on November 4th. okay, so seriously, i have put up with some pretty ridiculous emails from you two the last few weeks and have not said anything in return. but now i am replying: PLEASE TAKE ME OFF THESE FORWARDS. I don't want any more forwards. Not about Obama, not about McCain, not about airline passengers paying for soldiers' sandwiches. You both know where all your children stand (as in Obama supporters--in most cases very adamant Obama supporters), so why are you sending us this junk? This is not a political dialogue. This is crap. Not fact. I will gladly engage in healthy discourse but these are not even your own words.
Mrs. Peel
Wow, that must have been brewing inside for a long time. I have a friend who finally did the same thing to his dad a couple days ago after being bombarded with FWD emails. My favorite was the story about the soldier in Iraq who said when Obama came for a visit he hid out in his armored vehicle and was too scared to go outside and talk to anyone. The great thing about that email was that my friend's father changed a few words to imply that he knew the guy and the message was sent directly to him. Five seconds on snopes.com showed that he was lying. It's irresponsible to spread that garbage around. And to your own children?! Even worse.
quarter23cd
I may be missing the wacky part.Nothing especially wacky in that particular purity-ball description, although the idea of daughters making pledges to their dads about their virginity while dancing with them at a fancy ball (an atmosphere usually associated with the courting of potential mates and whatnot) is a bit odd. I dunno. I guess its really only if you think too hard about it that your head starts to hurt, but really, on the surface...meh, whatever floats their boat. I have daughters. And I can say that there are few things cooler in a dad's life than when your daughters ask you to dance with them and call you their Prince Charming and tell you they want to marry you when they grow up. Its really cute because my girls are under 6 years old--but if they're still doing this when they are teenagers, I'll probably have to have a talk with them about it. Doug C
I feel for you all getting the wacko emails from parents. That would be grating. Fortunately, I cannot relate. My parents most always vote (mom)/voted (dad) a straight Democratic ticket. My 81-in-a-few-months-mom proudly voted for Obama Monday. She told me that she staight-ticketed it except for a couple of local races where longtime Republican incumbents 'have been doing a good job'. She is an anomaly because she attends a fundamentalist-type church but disagrees with the congregation on taking the Bible literally, abortion, gay rights, military spending, taxes, etc. I personally couldn't attend such a church much less be the pianist, be on committees, etc. as she does. Thanks for causing me to think about my mom and what a cool 'ol chick she is. Sorry for rambling...

quarter23cd
I am still "cautiously optimistic"Me too, but I may need to take another break from obsessively hitting the refresh button on my RSS compiler of political/news blogs. I've already voted. Everyone around me has either already voted, too, or at least firmly decided which way they will, one way or another. There's really nothing left for me to do at this point but tune out and start drinking and/or popping xanax until the dust settles.
