Spawn's dad
yep. exactly... i listen to music anywhere on average from 4-8 hours a day (helps that I can all day at work)so that's anywhere between 60-120 FULL 24 hour days of music listening out of the year... let's say the average album is 60 minutes long... well that's between 1380-2760 albums a year if you were to listen to only one album once in that period of time... not all that unfathomable when you consider that. i'd estimate i heard about 120-150 records this year, which seemed like a bit less than previous years to me (was a lot busier this summer w/ a new house, etc.) can I hold it for you when you pee? solace
Does Dylan's "Tell Tale Signs"count because if it does. I have no idea why it isn't on any of these lists. Everything else pales by comparison. because it's a re-issue can I hold it for you when you pee?
Sir Stewart
because it's a re-issue Really?
solace
Really? compilation/re-issue, yes usually archive type releases aren't included in most "best albums of the year" list. the Dylan bootleg will def be my top re-issue/comp release of the year, no doubt
Sir Stewart
I think if people like them enough, compilations (stuffed w/previously unreleased stuff) will be featured in year-end lists. I recall Bootleg 7 was all over lists that year. I think this particular one didn't have the wide-reaching appeal that that one did.

mfwahl
Rolling Stone has Dylan's as No. 2. It'll be on my official list somewhere when I get it together this week. Reissue or not, it's one of the best of the year.

Synthesizer Patel
What about Rodriguez' Cold Fact? That album is suh-weet. i have not actually heard that, so i'll check it out And what about the new Jim Ford compilation? i thought that was 2007 - it was definately really early in the year - that would definately be on my list. ok new list: 01 Pacific Ocean Blue - Dennis Wilson02 Paint America Love - Lou Christie03 Isle Of View/The Original Tap Dancing Kid - Jimmie Spheeris04 Love Is Overtaking Me - Arthur Russell05 The Sounds Of Our Time - Jim Ford06 Tell Tale Signs - Bob Dylan07 Til The Band Comes In - Scott Walker08 Veedon Fleece - Van Morrison09 Jesus Of Cool - Nick Lowe10 Songs For Beginners - Graham Nash
you ever seen a ghost?
1. Bob Dylan - The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs (Rolling Stone listed it and it is not a reissue either, like Murmur or Stardust).2. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes3. TV On The Radio - Dear Science,4. Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant [EP]5. Department Of Eagles - In Ear Park6. Kanye West 808s & Heartbreak7. Blitzen Trapper - Furr8. Beck - Modern Guilt9. Animal Collective - Water Curses [EP]10. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges...even though i don't think it is that good...it was kind of a crappy year for music. nowhere near as good as 2007 was or as 2009 will be. note: Bon Iver was LAST year. other "okay" stuff: David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst, The Roots - Rising Down, Lil Wayne - The Carter III, Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend, Of Montreal -Skeletal Lamping, Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple, Dr. Dog - Fate, The Decemberists - Always The Bridesmaid singles series -justin
tangara
note: Bon Iver was LAST year. This argument is so tired. Its official label release was February '08, and that's good enough for me.

Its official label release was February '08, and that's good enough for me. eh, it's a valid point though... i don't care if people include it or not, but most omissions from EOY lists this year stem from them putting it on their '07 list, like Pitchfork and both the sites I run/help run.
