Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen

Recommended Posts

i'm getting burnt out on Dylan stuff though! he played 2 shows here in 2007.. the first was great, but during the 2nd show i was looking at watch 'most of the time'. he is getting underwhelming these days, although i've hear rumours there'll be a band change this coming tour... fingers crossed!

the 2nd time Roger Waters played here left me bored even though i loved the first show. the problem was he played the SAME show and charged twice as much

This last one is completely subjective (and rather retarded). When Glenn Kotche played with the Kronos Quartet at Ravinia in September, my friend, my roommate and I took the Metra down to the park to have a nice picnic dinner, taking in the scenery and some kick-ass music. When we got to the gate, where we ran into a friend of my friend, we found out that our LAWN SEATS wouldn't allow us to see the show--it was in the theater on the grounds. I felt like a dumbass for not reading the damn website. Because of my lack of cunning, my pals and I had to sit outside in the park on a cold September night, eating shitty, expensive food from the food court and merely listening (on shitty speakers) to what we should've been seeing.

In a nutshell, the experience was underwhelming because we weren't really at the show. :(

I think you would have enjoyed it if you knew what you were getting into. I can understand your surprise, though. I've had some great times sitting on the lawn at Ravinia. That said, how is it you didn't know the setup of Ravinia? Are you not from the area?

I almost hate to put him on a list of dissapointing shows, but John Lee Hooker was terrible when I saw him. The show was his band playing for a while then he came out and played then the band played by themselves for a while. The problem was that it was near the end for him and he was so frail it almost seemed like he was a caricature of his former self. He really should not have been out on stage at all.

I've also enjoyed sitting on Ravinia's lawn before, and what I did not garner from reading the event listing was that it wasn't an outdoor show. I guess I just assumed that we'd be able to see the show from wherever we spread our picnic blanket (hoping we'd be close to the front of the lawn).

I'm glad I can say I saw him, but I had the same experience. His backing band was great a traditional 12-bar blues, but his great boogie woogie style was totally lost behind that band. Boom Boom sounded much more like the Yardbirds cover than his version. I saw Bo Diddley around the same time and even though I wasn't as familiar with his catalog (just his beat) his show BURNED.

I took my oldest to go see Saving Abel, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, and Avenged Sevenfold. It was horrible. First, the only band I wanted to see was Avenged Sevenfold (I like their guitar work) and they didn't even play. The lead singer got food poisoning or some shit. Second they waited to get their entire set put up before they came out and announced it, then they tore theirs down and set up for Buckcherry. It took like an hour and a half between bands. Then Buckcherry came on and were horrible. I mean I got nothing against their music, but the sound was just horrible. It was sad that Papa Roach was the best band out of three that ended up playing.

Other than that

The Cranberries were pretty bad. I went because Grant Lee Buffalo opened. Unfortunately my friends who went wanted to stay for the Cranberries,

and I hate to say it, but Ozzy was nothing to brag about either. It was my first concert and he played decent, but the hour long drum solo got real old, and then out of nowhere they played Mr. Crowley, and that was it. The video for "Mamma I'm Comming Home" came on, and the concert just ended. They didn't even play Crazy Train, which is just sacrilege.

On a side note, my 11 year old daughter begged me to go after we got an extra ticket for the Buckcherry concert, and since I was that age when I went to my first show I figured it would be OK. I was sooooooo wrong. She had a really good time, but the moment that Buckcherry started playing CRAZYBITCH, I realized I had made a horrible mistake. The song is bad enough, but Josh Todd kept going on about how the song was about a woman's ability to control her vajayjay the different places a man could stick his privates and I looked at my daughter and felt like the worst parent on earth. My daughter and I had a big talk after that one.

the replacements - opened for tom petty (i think during full moon fever tour). played one or two songs, told nashville to fuck off and left the stage.

That seems like a perfect Replacements show! :cheers

Billy Joel - Never been a fan but a friend bought me a ticket for my birthday. Horrible venue (Carrier Dome in Syracuse), Horrible Album (Storm Front tour), I went with two other guys (we were the only ones there without dates).

Lenny Kravitz - Until someone mentioned him in this thread, I had forgotten that I had seen him

Smashing Pumkins - Headlining Lolapalooza and they were miserable and Billy Corgan even made a sarcastic comment about their energy when they came back for the encore.

I thought they were horrible at Lollapalooza, too. I wrote them off entirely after that. If I'm not mistaken, they followed the Beastie Boys, who put on an amazing show.

God I would've loved to see them on that tour. It's really too bad that dvd they released however many years ago contains next to zero actual live footage from that period

Definitely a concert I will never forget. It was awesome to see them in such a small place. And they were very laid back about the whole thing. They came in a side door, walked through the crowd.. Every member was chugging a beer as they made their way to the stage. Rivers was pretty haggard, full beard and everything. They opened with "Tired Of Sex".. Also, Nerf Herder opened for them. :rock

Good times.. Good times..

"Saving Abel, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, and Avenged Sevenfold"

I havent any idea who these bands are.

You're better off that you haven't heard them... Especially Papa Rouch.. :yucky

It's funny, my band opened for Buckcherry a few years ago. They were all serious dick heads except for the singer. He was a friendly guy, but all he wanted to do was hacky sack with the other bands. It got annoying.

why doesn't it surprise me that a guy from a band with a name like "Buckcherry" would want to hacky sack

i know you can't judge a book by its cover, but there's no way "Buckcherry" doesn't blow

if you can't think of a band name better than "Buckcherry" you have no choice ... you will suck

next thread --- great bands with terrible names?

terrible bands with great names? are there any?

The Pernice Bros. - Serious snooze fest.

Where'd you see them? I'm a huge fan of theirs, and the one time I saw them play as a full band, I thought they were great. It was at the Blind Pig, and The Chamber Strings were the opener.

I'm just curious as to whether you saw the same show and had a vastly different reaction. :lol

Drive By Truckers (opening for Hold Steady) last year atr Terminal 5 in NYC was a huge snoozefest. Pedestrian songs played in a boring way. The drummer played the same beat for an hour. I hadn't been that underwhelmed in years.

Interesting. I like them a lot but I think their albums can get sort of snoozy. I have only seen them once and it was much better - and much more rocking - than I thought it would be.

Seriously, I love the Pernice Bros and was so disappointed by this show. It was soooo boring and the only show I've been to where I leaving early sounded like a good idea. I only stayed hoping that it would get better, but it never did.

It probably doesn't help that The Long Winters opened and they were awesome.

Cryptique, I also saw them at The Blind Pig.

Huh. I didn't know they'd played there twice. I definitely saw the Chamber Strings open, so it was a different show, and a good one. That sucks that the one you saw didn't measure up.

I also saw Joe and Peyton Pinkerton at the Blind Pig playing as a duo -- they opened for Neko on the night I became obsessed with her. :wub
