calvino
Last night's Mountain Jam performance wasn't the best --- it seem a bit perfunctory, at times. Gregg sounded good, though. Compared to the previous nights Gov't Mule set - which I thought was so, so excellent, ABB set seemed kind of ho-hum. Also I never realized that Maurice Brown was involved with the Tedeschi Truck Band - and writing charts for the band to boot. I use to watch him play at various jazz venues and festival when he just got out of high school in the Chicagoland area.Him and Corey Wilkes were the two young gun trumpet slingers in town in the late 90's and early 2000's. Analogman
From Jambands: The Allman Brothers Band have confirmed the upcoming release of their highly anticipated box set, The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings. ABB’s seminal live album At Fillmore East is set to get a makeover with 15 previously unreleased tracks from their March 12-13 and June 27, 1971 shows at the iconic New York City venue, including multiple renditions of “Whipping Post,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Statesboro Blues” and “One Way Out.” The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings will also feature the entirety of the band’s June 27, 1971 gig, complete with the never-before-released introduction by Bill Graham. Another notable addition is the complete versions of the two takes on “You Don’t Love Me” that producer Tom Dowd combined for original At Fillmore East release. The original At Fillmore East was recorded over the course of the The Allman Brothers Band’s March 11-13, 1971 shows at the Fillmore East. Venue owner (and all around famed rock music promoter) Bill Graham was so impressed by the band’s three-night run at the venue that he handpicked them to play the venue’s closing show on July 27, 1971. The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings will be available on July 29. The box set can now be preordered in CD, LP and Blu-ray formats. As previously reported, the Allman Brothers Band will be calling it quits after this year. The band has scheduled a finale run at New York City’s Beacon Theatre for October, as well as appearances the Peach and Lockn’ festivals. The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings tracklist:CD 1March 12, 1971 – First Show1. worldrecordplayer
I'm in for the new Fillmore box set. Press release doesn't say it, but I thought these were remastered. And the Blu-Ray to be in 5.1 surround. Big discussion over at Hoffman Forum. http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/allman-brothers-band-fillmore-box-set.341341/
Analogman
You know - I have never seen a Blu-Ray or heard one for that matter. I don't think I have heard a 5.1 mix either. Amazon has this listed for 64 bucks. I am guessing some of these tracks must be the ones Tom hated - due to the horn player.

worldrecordplayer
Got my 1971 Fillmore East Recordings box set in today. The 6 cd version. Listened to disc 1, the early show from March 12. Sounds freakin awesome! The music is so "present." Very psyched to finally be able to listen to all of this.

Analogman
Duane is holding a bag of cocaine in his hands. That is why they are laughing.
worldrecordplayer
go on....I think what Analogman may be referring to is that the photo wasn't taken outside the Fillmore East. It was later shot outside a warehouse in Macon, set up to make it look like it was taken outside the Fillmore. Duane is holding a bag of cocaine in his hands. That is why they are laughing. That too. Analogman
That's right. It was in Georgia. The Fillmore Concerts cover (1992 - which is what I have) features a different photo and is in color - not black and white.
worldrecordplayer
From today's Boston Globe: http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2014/08/02/the-allman-brothers-fillmore-tapes-get-deluxe-treatment/TUe3r75wrd94VEqXOxYQYI/story.html The writer says the"peak" live album era was '69-71. There's lots of reasons why I disagree with that statement. Starting with a little 3 lp set called Europe '72.
tinnitus photography
On Your Feet Or On Your Knees is the greatest live record of all time. 1974 I think.
calvino
I think Duane just happen to spot one of his dealers walking down the street, so he hurried up and ran up to him and ran back for the photo - hence the laughter on Gregg and the "cat just ate the pet mouse" look on Duane.
