W(TF)
Haha, yeah. That's what I thought initially too. At least, Abbey Road, side 2, George Harrison. Yeah exactly- I meant to say '68-69 Beatles era George. How about we all just bask in the glory of robbie robertson mixed with george harrison presented by Wilco. Or it is Nels copying Robbie who was probably copying George? lol

farva
I am not a fan of the double tracked vocals in Solitaire. I don't really like the vocal melody to begin with so having it double tracked doesn't help much. I do really like the You And I/You Never Know combo.
W(TF)
I am not a fan of the double tracked vocals in Solitaire. I don't really like the vocal melody to begin with so having it double tracked doesn't help much. I like how they did this. Since the theme of the song is isolation, it's kinda clever to have two Jeffs singing it "to each other". Sing along with your only friend, yourself. Sounds good to me anyway. thagle
I like this album a lot more than I initially liked SBS which has since grown on me. My only complaint is that some of the songs are way too short. Ok let me clarify. I havent listened to it since Lolla but I remember One Wing being a bit of an extended monster song. I wish they would have extended this more on album. Certain other songs especially Bull Black Nova seem like it could have gone on forever (in a good way). I hope that live these songs really take flight and allow for some improvisation and extended playing. otherwise i'm very content good job boys
trentasaurus
Someone who can talk him down from the panic attack. (just my guess.. I've had a few of these in my life) I assumed he was calling the person (probably a girlfriend/wife) that he had just killed. He's freaking about the blood everyone and needs someone to comfort him, but oops, he killed her. My 2 cents...
W(TF)
Oh yeah, one more "likes", the COWBELL in Sonny Feeling. Can never have enough cowbell!!

Although, I didn't necessarily think he was calling for comfort but more out of a sense of disbelief or horror.
theashtraysays
I am really happy about the increased keyboard presence. There is no disputing Jeff's now-awesome guitar playing and Nels is a great contribution, but they have two awesome key players that didn't have much to do (in terms of keys at least) on SBS and it really adds a lot. Yeah, I noticed that too. From the pre-leak interviews and live songs, I expected a lot more Nels-centric songs. But I like that the keyboard / piano stuff is a little more out front. The piano in You Never Know is great.
Shakespeare In The Alley
I think, as someone may have already said, this album will quiet a little bit of the "Nels contributes nothing but guitar wanking" shouts. There really aren't that many outright "solos" in the Impossible Germany/Side With The Seeds vein on this album. I think Nels still contributed a lot to this record, adding comparatively minor guitar bits here and there that really help the songs grow. It's one of the things that struck me as strange at first, but grew on me in a big way.
thermocaster
Pleasures: - The way that several of the songs (One Wing, BBN, You Never Know, the Song) so easily find a groove. I listened to this album while moving out of Miami this past weekend and it got me through some pretty boring stretches with ease...even joy. - The sonic density, which a lot of people have mentioned - The album pacing. Probably the best sequencing of all the Wilco albums. Disappointments: - The duet with Feist. Lyrics aside, the sound of this song is something out of a romantic comedy soundtrack, or a bad TV drama. that's really it
explodo
Mine, too. Although, I didn't necessarily think he was calling for comfort but more out of a sense of disbelief or horror.Yes, that is actually is what I thought.
Theremin
- The album pacing. Probably the best sequencing of all the Wilco albums.Hmm, I'd rather call the sequencing a negative. They've placed the 3 mellowest songs on this album on 4 spots, so by the time you reach solitaire you're really hoping for something to pick up the pace. Which is kinda too bad since Solitaire is actually the stand-out ballad here.
curvemyflight
I assumed he was calling the person (probably a girlfriend/wife) that he had just killed. He's freaking about the blood everyone and needs someone to comfort him, but oops, he killed her. My 2 cents... Sounds about right, but I remain hopeful that all the blood is a metaphor for a relationship ending badly. Not that Jeff isn't allowed to write murder songs, but I relate to it better when it's about a relationship. Regarding comparisons of this song to Spiders, I don't believe I'll ever see Jeff leading an audience participation clap-along to this song like he does sometimes with Spiders. No comparison. Oops, this should probably be in the BBN thread.

The small things like the feedback in W(TS), the backwards outro in You & I, and the outro for Everlasting made a helluva lot of difference.

There's a song written from the point of view of a guy just killed his girlfriend," Tweedy says of "Bull Black Nova," a track with a classic-rock feel.

So Long
Enjoy: the matured-Summerteeth vibe. Wilco's comfortability with themselves. Disappointment: The major key ending of One Wing (!)
W(TF)
Disappointment: The major key ending of One Wing (!) Do you mean the last dramatic note and fadeout? It surprises me too. But I like surprises. Is this unforgiveably 'wrong' musically, or just not to your taste?
chanman1128
I agree a lot with some of you, I disagree with some of you also... Negative: I can't stand I'll Fight, and I just am not really feeling One Wing that much. You and I and You Never Know are very 'meh', nothing too special. Positive: Really love Deeper Down, Solitaire, Everlasting, Sonny Feeling.I like BBN a lot, don't think I like it is as much as you guys yet though(the song) is so catchy, i really like it, even if it is a little goofy.I am hating all of this hate for Country Disappeared! I instantly loved it and is currently one of my favorite tracks.Overall I like it a lot.
junkiesmile
Positive: Wilco came out with a new album and it's fu*kin great. I love every song. Negative: Once again it wasn't what I expected. They actually did it to me again, made a fu*kin album without asking me what direction I thought they should go in. The fu*kin nerve of these guys.
